‘Best experience of my life': Longtime Special Olympian overcomes adversity

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Special Olympics Rhode Island's Summer Games are more than just a competition. They're also about making lifelong friends. No one knows how to do that better than Henry Moretti, who's competed with the Trudeau Tigers for more than five decades. 'Special Olympians are like family to me,' he said. The Cranston native has participated in his fair share of competitions, such as basketball, softball, golf and soccer, to name a few. But what's the 65-year-old's favorite sport? Moretti was quick to answer. 'I like bowling. My sister helps me,' Moretti said. 'Three weeks ago, I bowled my best game. I bowled 168 — six spares and two strikes.' Moretti has traveled far and wide during his time with Special Olympics. 'I've been to Austria. I played floor hockey … I was a goalie,' he said. 'I've been to Minnesota where I did weightlifting. I've also been to Indiana where I played handball and volleyball.' 'I even went cross-country skiing in Utah,' he added. Moretti was even invited to visit the nation's capital. 'I've been to the White House three times,' Moretti said. 'I met Bill Clinton twice and I met George W. Bush once.' 'I was a Global Messenger for Special Olympics,' he continued. 'I was one of 12 Global Messengers to have dinner with the president.' RELATED: 2025 Special Olympics RI Summer Games officially underway While Moretti is known for having quite the sense of humor, he's also extremely tough. Not even two bouts of cancer could keep him from doing what he loves. 'It was hard,' Moretti recalled. 'I was in the hospital for awhile and went to four rehabs to get better. I had to learn how to walk and everything again.' Thankfully, Moretti is back on track. He's even launched his own podcast, where he talks about his experiences with Special Olympics. Moretti told 12 News he plans on being a Special Olympian for years to come. 'I hope to be with Special Olympics for a long, long time,' he said. 'It's the best experience of my life.' Chinese-American TikToker meets Mumbai woman who says Jackie Chan is her boyfriend, helps her start fruit business

If your algorithm hasn't yet served you clips of Miles Moretti – a Chinese-American TikToker known for his peppy, floral outfits – strutting through city streets, are you even online? Moretti is currently exploring India, and his latest stop, Mumbai, led to an unexpectedly heartwarming moment. In a video that's now melting hearts online, Moretti bumps into a spirited local named Rose Heaven Francis. Known in her Mumbai neighbourhood for caring for over 200 stray dogs and cats, Rose lights up the screen with her infectious energy. When Moretti asked how many languages she speaks, she demonstrated by talking in many. Rose seeks Moretti's help – buying some milk or food for the stays – and when he offers to help her set up a business, she says there's a particular thing – a cart – she'd like him to buy for her so that she can sell fruits. While the duo sets off on an expedition to figure out what exactly Rose is asking for, at one point, Rose tells Moretti that her boyfriend lives in Hong Kong. 'You have a boyfriend in Hong Kong?' Moretti asks, to which she says, 'Yeah – Jackie Chan.' Moretti bursts into laughter. Eventually, Moretti understands what Rose needs, and the next day, he returns with exactly that – a cart with fruits. 'I'm not rich and I usually don't do this stuff on camera, but after running into Rose while out filming and hearing her story, in the spur of the moment I thought I'd assist in helping her find a decent way to support herself,' he wrote in the caption. 'You can't save the whole world, but helping one person is definitely doable.' A post shared by Miles Moretti (@realmilesmoretti) The video, which was posted on his Instagram (@milesmoretti) about a month ago, quickly went viral, racking up over a million likes. People flooded the comments with love for both Rose's infectious personality and Moretti's kind-heartedness. Hedge fund boss claimed ‘corrupt Jews' were trying to kill him

The head of a £1bn Mayfair hedge fund was convinced 'corrupt Jews' were trying to kill him after his EV charger exploded, an employment tribunal has heard. Davide Leone, the founder of hedge fund Davide Leone & Partners, was paranoid that 'big Jews' linked to one of his former employees were trying to sabotage his business and have him assassinated. The claims were submitted to the Central London employment tribunal by Jacapo Moretti, who alleges he was subjected to 'systematic victimisation and harassment for years' while working as a director at Mr Leone's hedge fund for more than a decade. Mr Moretti claimed Mr Leone, 49, was paranoid that powerful Jewish investors were behind various plots to burgle his home and offices, hack his computers and kill him by tampering with his car charger. He is seeking more than £100m in compensation over claims he was unfairly fired from his job at Mr Leone's hedge fund after suffering years of anti-Semitic bullying. Mr Leone spent 'countless hours' talking about his paranoid thoughts, Mr Moretti claimed, including that people were following him and 'organised criminals' had been paid millions to kill him and his family. In submissions to the employment tribunal, Mr Moretti said he was subjected to 'egregious conduct' while working at Davide Leone & Partners, including anti-Semitic remarks related to Mr Leone's 'paranoia and conspiracy theorist attitudes'. He claimed that his former boss would call him 'Rabbi' if he showed unwillingness to spend money and was 'fixated' on whether people were Jewish. Mr Moretti was fired in June 2023 following a period of extended sick leave related to his mental health. He claims the 'insufferable working conditions' he experienced at the hedge fund left him with a multitude of issues including depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Evidence submitted to the tribunal includes secret recordings of conversations between Mr Moretti and Mr Leone, which Mr Moretti began making when the relationship between the pair started to deteriorate in 2021. In response to the allegations, Mr Leone said he was unaware Mr Moretti was Jewish and accused his former employee of submitting 'lurid allegations' to damage his reputation after their friendship imploded following a clash over annual bonuses. Speaking to the employment tribunal, Mr Leone apologised for his choice of words but said comments made on private phone calls or in informal conversations had been taken out of context, with some of the remarks mistranslated from Italian. He also argued that his comments about Jewish people were not derogatory. He claimed he often referred to people as 'Jews' in the same way he would refer to a person's nationality. References to 'big Jews' were indications of their status within the Jewish community, he added. In response to claims he was paranoid about a plot to kill him, submissions made by Mr Leone state: 'I was legitimately concerned for my own safety and that of my family and I accept that on occasion I spoke to Mr Moretti as my closest confidant and right hand man about some of this.' Mr Moretti was first hired by Mr Leone in 2011 just weeks after he launched his hedge fund. The two men had known each other for decades, having first been introduced by their mothers, who had worked together as school teachers in Saronno, near Milan. Mr Moretti's job paid him around £1.4m a year to oversee investment decisions at the firm, which managed more than $1.5bn (£1.1bn) in assets for investors including university endowments and pensions funds for ex-civil servants and police officers. In submissions to the employment tribunal, Mr Moretti said he 'dedicated his life' to working at Davide Leone & Partners, including by regularly working 12 to 18-hour workdays. Mr Leone denied that Mr Moretti had worked 'excessively'. A spokesman for Davide Leone & Partners said: 'The action is based on totally false allegations and his claims are completely groundless.' Cranston public meetings affected by broken elevator

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Cranston's public meetings are being moved elsewhere for the time being as City Hall's only elevator is broken. On Tuesday, Mayor Ken Hopkins' Chief of Staff Anthony Moretti told 12 News the elevator had been out of order for approximately 10 days. He called the situation disappointing and emphasized that the mayor's office is taking it seriously. The elevator issue was caused by a specific part that isn't in stock, according to Moretti. Public meetings usually held in the City Council chambers on the third floor are being moved to other areas such as high school auditoriums since they wouldn't be accessible to people who can't take the stairs. Other offices on the upper floors include tax collections, the town clerk and planning. Moretti said city departments will have 'runners' in the lobby to assist anyone unable to get up the stairs. The city was told by the repair company it could take roughly three to four weeks to get that part from the distributor, Moretti explained. Leeds captain sang about teammate's manhood and 'leaked star's next club' on bus parade

Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu belted out the chant which references Willy Gnonto's manhood during the club's open top bus parade - and also appeared to spill the beans on Junior Firpo's next club Leeds skipper Ethan Ampadu led the fans in a chant which makes reference to Willy Gnonto's manhood during their victory parade. The Whites have just been crowned Championship winners and led an open-top bus parade through the city. Ampadu has been a massive hit since joining from Chelsea nearly two years ago and has becoming a talismanic figure. He held the microphone and led the songs from the bus - opting to belt out a chant which is used to hail the team's Italian winger. ‌ Gnonto has landed himself a song among the Elland Road faithful which jokes about his Italian heritage before making reference to the size of his genitals. Ampadu shouted out the song before claiming that the chant is true to form, which led to laughter among the fans. ‌ The song, which is to the tune of Los Lobos' 1987 hit La Bamba, has the lyrics: 'Willy Gnonto, Willy Gnonto, he eats spaghetti, he drinks Moretti, his c***'s f****** massive'. The winger scored nine times in 43 Championship outings this term and has previously proved to be handful when Leeds were last in the Premier League. The club have urged the fanbase in the past to change the lyrics, which plays on stereotypes. Ampadu may have also let slip Junior Firpo's next destination with the full-back out of contract in a matter of weeks. He's been a regular throughout the season and has been at Elland Road for a number of years - and is clearly a big hit in the dressing room. He said: "He came from Barca, he won the cup in Spain. He plays for Leeds now, he'll do the same again. He's f***ing magic and don't you f***ing know, his name is Junior, Junior Firpo." The 24-year-old then repeatedly shouted "Real Betis" - Firpo's former club - whom he's been linked with since leaving them for Barcelona in 2019. Leeds will need to invest if they want to avoid the current trend of promoted sides. For the last two seasons, the three clubs who've gone up to the Premier League have gone straight down. The Whites have confirmed they will stick by current manager Daniel Farke. Chairman Paraag Marathe has confirmed that they will not sign any players without the approval of Farke and has pledged to work with the German. Marathe want to make Leeds Premier League regulars again and has accepted that the first season back in the top flight is all about survival.
