Cops deny viral claims of hypnosis in Pekan robberies
PEKAN: Police have denied allegations circulating on a Facebook page claiming that an armed robbery gang has been hypnotising (pukau) victims before committing robberies here. Pekan police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, said the claims were baseless and unsupported by any evidence. "Yesterday (May 27), Pekan police came across a viral post on the 'Kami Asal Pekan Pahang' Facebook page. The post alleged that suspects armed with parang were breaking into homes and hypnotising the owner. "It also claimed that such incidents were widespread in Pekan. However, police investigations found no reports lodged regarding such incidents," he said in a statement today. Zaidi urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information without consulting the authorities. He said members of the public can contact the authorities directly for accurate information, either by calling the Pekan police operations room at 09-4221222 or going to the nearest police station.
