420 kg of waste cleared up in Pantai Penyabong

MERSING: A total of 420 kilogrammes (kg) of waste was successfully cleaned up along with 170 kg of recyclables through the 'YOK! Bersih Pantai' programme in conjunction with the World Environment Day celebration at Pantai Penyabong here, yesterday. SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) initiative through the company involved 120 volunteers comprising staff of strategic partners and school students. He said it reflected the company's commitment in educating and fostering environmental cleanliness practices and environmental sustainability, especially in public areas and natural ecosystems. 'Penyabong Beach was chosen due to the tourism factor which needs to be clean and ready all the time to receive tourists, especially ahead of the Visit Johor Year 2026,' he said in a statement today. This programme is also an extension of efforts to make the Johor Clean City Strategic Plan a success which was launched by the Johor Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) for Mersing district level last month. Mohd Norlisam said the programme also received the cooperation of Mersing District Council (MDM) and saw 40 volunteers made up of students and teachers from SK Penyabong which is the Mersing district level sustainability showcase school.

SWM Environment launches 'No Dust' initiative in Melaka

MELAKA: SWM Environment has launched a cleaning initiative, codenamed "No Dust," at popular tourist hotspots in Bandar Hilir as part of preparations for two major international tourism events later this year. General Manager of Corporate Affairs Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said that the initiative aims to enhance cleanliness and visitor comfort at key tourism sites. The operation involved 20 cleaning personnel supported by two units of water jet machinery. "The team focused on removing accumulated dust and sand, significantly improving the overall cleanliness of the sites," he said on Tuesday (June 10). Mohd Norlisam added that the cleaning operation is part of SWM Environment's broader commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards at Melaka's tourist attractions. "With the state set to host World Tourism Day (WTD) and the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025 this September, efforts to present a cleaner and more welcoming image of the city have been intensified. "This operation is not just about cleanliness but about creating a positive and memorable experience for the thousands of tourists expected to visit the historic city later this year," he said. He added that similar operations are planned for other tourist sites across the state to reinforce Melaka's reputation as one of the cleanest cities in Southeast Asia. "This initiative is expected to set a new benchmark in sustainable urban cleanliness, showcasing the state's readiness to welcome global delegates and tourists during these upcoming landmark events," he said.
