Gulf states denounce Israeli strikes on Iran's nuclear sites
Shafaq News/ On Friday, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman issued warnings over Israeli attacks targeting Iran's nuclear facilities, describing them as violations of international law and a threat to regional safety. Saudi Arabia's Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission condemned any military action against civilian nuclear infrastructure, stressing that such operations breach the UN Charter, International Atomic Energy Agency statutes, and other global legal frameworks. It confirmed that no radiation leaks had been detected within the kingdom. Building on these concerns, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani cautioned that targeting Iran's economic and nuclear infrastructure could have 'catastrophic consequences,' particularly for energy markets and regional stability. Oman echoed the call for restraint, urging all parties to avoid escalation and return to negotiations as the only path toward resolution, and emphasized the need to safeguard international maritime navigation in light of growing regional tensions. Satellite imagery reviewed by analysts showed that Israeli strikes on Iran's Arak heavy-water facility breached the containment dome and inflicted damage on key components, including heavy-water distillation towers—raising further alarm over the safety of nuclear sites under attack.

It was a 'mistake': Israel walks back claim of strike on Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant; confirms hits on Natanz, Isfahan & Arak
An Israeli military official on Thursday said it was a 'mistake' for a spokesperson to claim earlier that Israel had struck the Bushehr nuclear facility in Iran, reported Reuters. The official confirmed attacks on Iran's Natanz, Isfahan, and Arak nuclear sites but declined to confirm or deny any strike on Bushehr. The clarification comes after an Israeli military spokesperson initially said that Israel had targeted Bushehr, along with other nuclear facilities. However, the scale of any potential attack on Bushehr remains unclear. Bushehr, located on Iran's Gulf coast, is the country's only operational nuclear power plant. It uses Russian fuel, which is returned to Russia once spent to limit proliferation risks. Due to its location and function, any strike on Bushehr carries potential environmental risks, including air and water contamination — a major concern for neighbouring Gulf states. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that Gulf nations, in coordination with the UN nuclear watchdog, have prepared contingency plans in case of an attack on any nuclear facility in the region. Earlier Thursday, the Russian embassy in Iran stated that the Bushehr plant was operating normally and that no security threat had been observed. Concerns about regional fallout from any strike on Iranian nuclear facilities have long been voiced. In March, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani warned that such an attack could 'entirely contaminate' Gulf waters, posing severe risks to Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait. 'These countries have no water, no fish, nothing ... no life,' he warned, referencing their reliance on desalinated water from the Gulf for over 18 million people.

The official would only confirm that Israel had hit the Natanz, Isfahan and Arak nuclear sites in Iran. Pressed further on Bushehr, the official said he could neither confirm or deny that Israel had struck the location, where Iran has a reactor. The potential consequences of an attack on the plant -- contaminating the air and water -- have long been a concern in the Gulf states. Qatar's prime minister, in March, warned that an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities would "entirely contaminate" the waters of the Gulf and threaten life in Qatar, the UAE and Kuwait. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani warned that an attack on Iran's nuclear sites would leave the Gulf with "no water, no fish, nothing ... no life". Qatar, the UAE and Kuwait, facing Iran on the opposite side of the Gulf, have minimal natural water reserves and are home to more than 18 million people whose only supply of potable water is desalinated water drawn from the Gulf. Bushehr is Iran's only operating nuclear power plant, which sits on the Gulf coast, and uses Russian fuel that Russia then takes back when it is spent to reduce proliferation risk. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday said that Moscow had agreed with Israeli leaders that the safety of Russian workers at the site would be guaranteed. "Our specialists are on site. This is more than two hundred people. And we agreed with the leadership of Israel that their safety will be ensured," Putin told journalists. The Russian embassy in Iran said in a statement earlier on Thursday that Bushehr was operating normally and that it did not see any security threats. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that contamination from any attack on Bushehr was the worst case Gulf countries were preparing for. The source stated that Gulf countries, in cooperation with the U.N. nuclear watchdog, had prepared a contingency plan for any attack on any nuclear plant in the region. Egypt's FM, Qatari and Iranian counterparts discuss reprecussion of Israeli military attacks on Iran
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty made phones with his Qatari and Iranian counterparts Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Abbas Araghchi, respectively CAIRO- 13 June 2025: Two phone calls took place on Friday, June 13, 2025, between Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, with his Qatari and Iranian counterparts Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Abbas Araghchi, respectively, to discuss the developments in the region following the military attacks launched by Israel against several military and nuclear sites in Iran early this morning. During the two calls, views and assessments were tackled regarding the repercussions of the unjustified and irresponsible Israeli aggression and its dangerous impact on the security and stability of the region. During his call with his Iranian counterpart, Minister Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's rejection and condemnation of the infringement on the sovereignty of states and the violation of their unity and territorial integrity. He emphasized the importance of working to de-escalate tensions and prevent the entire region from slipping into chaos and expanding the scope of the conflict. Separately, Minister Abdelatty's call with his Qatari counterpart also addressed the developments in the efforts being made by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of hostages and prisoners, as well as efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation. Also, according to a statement iussed by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein Al-Sheikh addressed the ts expected repercussions of the Israeli attacks against Iran on the security and stability of the region and its countries and addressed the latest developments of the Palestinian cause. Egypt strongly condemned the military strikes carried out by the Israeli army against Iran in the early hours of June 13, 2025. 'These attacks represent a blatant and extremely dangerous escalation in the region, a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, and a direct threat to both regional and international peace and security,' the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated. 'Egypt is following these rapid developments with deep concern and firmly denounces this unjustified act, which will only exacerbate the crisis and risks triggering a broader regional conflict. Such escalation could have unprecedented consequences for the region's security and stability, endangering its peoples and threatening to plunge the entire Middle East into widespread chaos,' the statement continued. Egypt reiterated its position that the crises facing the region cannot be resolved through military means, but rather through political and peaceful solutions. The Ministry stressed that the use of force will not bring security to any country, including Israel. True security, it emphasized, can only be achieved by respecting state sovereignty, preserving the unity and territorial integrity of nations, delivering justice, and ending the Israeli occupation of Arab lands. Israel carried out airstrikes on several Iranian cities, inclduing nuclear sites, in the early hours of June 13, 2025, killing at least 78 people and injuring 329 others as a preliminary toll, inclduing Iranian nuclear scientists and military leaders. The Israeli army said in a statement on Friday that it luanhced a 'preemptive strike against Iran's Nuclear Program' with more than 200 Israeli Air Force fighter jets, operating with precise intelligence from the IDF Intelligence Directorate, conducted coordinated strikes on over 100 targets across Iran. Israeli media outlets reported that the Israeli operation against Iran could last for weeks amid Iranian threat of a severe retaliation. Iranian military leaders killed in the Israeli airstrikes include Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Commander of the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Iranian General Staff, Major General Gholam Ali Rashid. The Khatam al Anbiya Headquarters is a Unified Combatant Command Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces, operating under the direct command of the General Staff, is responsible for planning and coordinating joint military operations across all branches of Iran's armed forces. Also, Hossein Salami, the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in the airstrikes. Besides killing civilians inlcuding women and children, six nuclear sceintists were killed in the israeli airstrike; Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Friday that the scientists killed included Fereydoun Abbasi, former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, a prominent physicist and president of Islamic Azad University. Several world countries, inlcuding, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon, and Oman- the broker of the US/Iranian talks on the Iranian nucleary program- condemned the Israeli attacks, saying these blatant attacks violate the interntaional laws. Additionally, several countries suspended their flights to and from Iran and Israel.
