Rain dance begins as monsoon arrives 3 days ahead of date
Lucknow: Surpassing expectations, monsoon made a resounding entry into Lucknow three days ahead of the arrival date, on Friday. The monsoon date in Lucknow is June 23. The early arrival has happened after a gap of more than three years. The city mostly remained under cloud cover though the sun shone bright post-noon. some parts received light rain. The total rainfall recorded at the Met centre at Amausi airport was 11.2mm, while it was 86.5mm at the Met centre's control room, 72.4mm at Hanuman Setu control room and 57.5mm at the Malihabad control room. The rainfall on Thursday evening and Friday morning brought down the maximum temperature to 35 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees Celsius below normal, while the minimum was 25 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees Celsius below normal. Weatherman has predicted more rains in the city over the next five days. "The city will have partly cloudy sky on Saturday, with some spells of rains/thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 35 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively, said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the Met department. Rains/thundershowers are expected at many places over West UP and most places over East UP. Weather office has predicted thunderstorm accompanied by lightning/gusty winds at some isolated places in the state. Heavy rains is likely at isolated places in West UP. Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over East UP. Danish said the monsoon has reached the eastern part of the state and will cover southern UP shortly. The southwest monsoon further advanced into the remaining parts of Bihar and East UP and Madhya Pradesh, some parts of West UP, most parts of Uttarakhand, many parts of Himachal Pradesh, and some parts of Ladakh.

Season's 1st monsoon downpour drenches Lucknow

Senior scientist at the state meteorological department, Mohammad Danish, said maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in the city on Thursday were 37.2 and 28.1 degrees Celsius, respectively. He added that on Friday, the city would experience overcast sky with a few spells of rain/thundershower, while maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 33 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. There is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by strong surface wind speeds (35-45 kmph). Southwest monsoon advanced further over most parts of Bihar and some more parts of East Uttar Pradesh. According to the weatherman, Northern limit of the monsoon continued to pass through Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Gwalior and Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh and proceeded to Sonbhadra and reached Ballia in UP on Thursday. There was heavy rainfall in three places in the state, with Firozabad receiving 120 mm, the highest, followed by Shahjahanpur (95mm) and Meerut (65mm). In rest of the cities in southern parts of the state, moderate to light rainfall was experienced.
