Auto workers union president retaliated against top officer, monitor says

The federal monitor overseeing the United Auto Workers union determined that UAW President Shawn Fain retaliated against Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock by reassigning some of her duties last year, according to a report released on Tuesday. The monitor, New York attorney Neil Barofsky , opened the investigation in February 2024 to review allegations around the two officers' actions, including that Mock said she had faced retaliation for her refusal or reluctance to authorize certain expenditures for Fain's office. "Fain acted on a premeditated plan to take action against Mock," the report stated, adding that the union president retaliated against her because she refused "to grant exceptions to the strict policy restrictions governing the expenditure of Union resources." The UAW did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Mock also did not immediately respond to a request for a comment. In the report, the monitor called for the union's executive board to reinstate the various responsibilities stripped from Mock, which included purchasing, benefits and pensions. The secretary-treasurer was also previously accused of obstructing union operations and seeking to influence board votes, claims the monitor said were unfounded. Barofsky's latest report is damaging to Fain, a symbol of union power resurgence across the country during a 2023 strike against the Detroit Three automakers , Ford Motor, General Motors and Stellantis, maker of Ram trucks and Jeeps. The monitor was appointed in 2021 following a years-long corruption scandal that resulted in the federal convictions of several former leaders. He has since regularly released reports on his team's investigations into the union's practices. Tuesday's report is the twelfth from the monitor's office.

Latest ESPN NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery

Latest ESPN NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery The NBA Draft is just over a week away so where will Michigan State star Jase Richardson land? ESPN's latest mock draft suggests it'll be just outside of the lottery. ESPN released an updated NBA Mock Draft on Tuesday, which pegged Richardson to be selected just outside of the lottery. This latest mock draft from ESPN has Richardson going No. 16 overall to the Memphis Grizzlies -- who just acquired this pick from the Orlando Magic in a trade. Jonathan Givony had this to say about Richardson and the Grizzlies pairing: "The Grizzlies are exactly the type of team that could be interested in an ultra-efficient, productive young prospect such as Richardson, who rates highly in draft models that analytics-savvy teams like Memphis often pay attention to. "Richardson possesses an excellent feel for the game, hit 41% of his 3-pointers this season, brings strong defensive intensity and looks adept at playing off the star power of a teammate like Ja Morant, whose future in Memphis is to be determined. As Richardson's shot-creation diversity and offensive aggressiveness evolve, he could be someone who eventually inherits more significant ballhandling responsibilities, if the Grizzlies decide to pivot toward a youth movement." Richardson has widely been considered a fringe-lottery pick after starring for the Spartans in his lone season in college. He averaged 12.1 points per game and shot above 40% from three-point range, which quickly turned him into an NBA first round projection. The NBA Draft will be held on June 25 and 26, with the first round taking place on Wednesday and second round on Thursday. The draft will be televised on ABC and ESPN. Former Wisconsin class of 2026 quarterback commit pledges to new program

Former Wisconsin class of 2026 quarterback commit pledges to new program Former Wisconsin class of 2026 quarterback commit Jarin Mock pledged to Bowling Green on Thursday. Mock previously joined the Badgers' class last July, back when Phil Longo was the program's offensive coordinator. Longo was then fired in mid-November after a 16-13 loss to No. 1 Oregon dropped his offense's outputs to 363.1 yards per game (91st nationally) and 23.9 points per game (98th). Mock went on to decommit from the class in mid-January after the program hired new OC Jeff Grimes. 247Sports lists Mock as a three-star recruit. He's specifically ranked as the No. 891 player in the class of 2026, No. 55 quarterback and No. 35 recruit from his home state of Ohio. Aside from Wisconsin, Purdue was his only Power Four offer. Mock's departure was part of Wisconsin's top-down overhaul of its quarterback room after Grimes' arrival. Braedyn Locke (Arizona), Tyler Van Dyke (SMU) and Mabrey Mettauer (Sam Houston State) transferred out, while class of 2025 signee Landyn Locke (Sam Houston State) committed elsewhere. The program then added transfers Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O'Neil during the winter window, retained 2025 signee Carter Smith and landed a commitment from 2026 quarterback Ryan Hopkins. Mock now joins a Bowling Green program that has made three consecutive bowl games dating back to 2022. Entering 2025, the team is ranked No. 104 in the nation and No. 5 in the MAC by ESPN's Football Power Index. Wisconsin's quarterback recruiting in the class of 2026 appears finished with Hopkins' commitment. The Badgers' class currently ranks No. 28 in the nation and No. 8 in the Big Ten at this stage of the cycle It will be interesting to watch how Wisconsin's new-look quarterback room, led by Edwards Jr., performs in 2025. That output will inevitably be compared to how the program's former transfers fare with new programs, as well as to how Longo's Sam Houston State team performs in his first year in charge. What will Jase Richardson do? NBA Draft decision needed by end of today

What will Jase Richardson do? NBA Draft decision needed by end of today While it seems very unlikely, Jase Richardson has until midnight tonight to withdraw his name from the NBA Draft and retain college eligibility It appears Jase Richardson has already made up his mind to head to the NBA, but should he at all be considering a return for a second year at Michigan State, then he has until midnight to make that final decision. Today is the final day for college eligible players to withdraw from the NBA Draft, with Richardson being part of that bucket. According to NBA rules, early entries for the NBA Draft have until 5 p.m. June 16 to withdraw. However, for college players, the deadline to withdraw and retain your college eligibility per NCAA rules is 11:59 p.m. on May 28. So that would essentially mean Richardson has until late tonight to make a final decision. Richardson starred for the Spartans in his lone season in college, averaging 12.1 points per game and shooting above 40% from three-point range. The first half of the season he was primarily coming off the bench as a key reserve, but he was inserted into the starting lineup for the final two months and quickly became the Spartans' top player en route to a Big Ten championship and Elite Eight run in the NCAA Tournament. Following the season, it was clear that Richardson should enter the NBA Draft as many projected him as a lottery pick. However, since then his draft stock has fluctuated up-and-down depending on the mock draft. In our NBA Mock Draft round-up last week, Richardson was listed as high as the No. 10 overall pick and as low as the No. 28 overall pick. One of the most recent NBA Mock Drafts I came across yesterday from Sports Illustrated has Richardson going No. 20 overall to the Miami Heat. Ultimately, it appears Richardson is a lock to be a first round pick in the NBA Draft and still in the lottery range according to some draft experts. So at this point, it seems highly-unlikely he'll withdraw his name from the NBA Draft to return to Michigan State for another season. We'll be monitoring for any updates throughout the day to see if there is any Richardson news, but I'm anticipating it being a quiet day meaning he'll continue to move forward with the NBA Draft process and officially close the door on a return to Michigan State.
