20 June 2025 19:02 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The United Arab Emirates has evacuated a number of its nationals and residents from the Islamic Republic of Iran, in coordination with the relevant a press statement on Friday, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that as part of the UAE's unwavering commitment to the safety of its nationals and residents, and to swift responses to emergencies, the UAE has successfully executed evacuation operations, which were coordinated and facilitated by the Iranian side, to ensure their safe return home. The UAE, further, continues to engage in intensive calls and diplomatic consultations with the relevant and strategic partners, to de-escalate tensions and restore peace, stemming from a steadfast commitment to diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable path forward. Foreign ministry denies Pakistan-Iran border closure reports

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) clarified on Wednesday that all border crossings between Pakistan and Iran were fully operational. The development comes after it was reported that Pakistan had closed all its border crossings with neighbouring Iran for an indefinite period amid an ongoing escalation with Israel. The Foreign ministry denied that border checkpoints in five districts had been shut down or suspended in wake of Iran-Israel war. 'This to clarify that contrary to some media reports, all border crossings along the Pakistan-Iran border remain fully operational.' Authorities in Balochistan on Monday claimed to have shut down all five crossings in Chaghi, Washuk, Kerch, Panjhur and Gawadar, bordering with Iran. The officials in Quetta had claimed that all border crossing points had been suspended/closed down for indefinite period. However, officials reaffirmed that trade, travel, and security operations continued as normal at all designated crossing points, including the busy Taftan border crossing in Balochistan. Officials said Pakistan shared 900km long border with Iran, strategically important land trade route for both brotherly nations. Authorities on both sides have taken measures in recent years to enhance border management and ensure smooth movement while addressing security concerns.

On Monday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), in close coordination with Iraqi Airways, successfully facilitated the repatriation of 268 Pakistani nationals through two special flights from Basra to Karachi and Islamabad. Both flights have safely arrived in Pakistan. Iran-Israel conflict Regional tensions have escalated since last week, when Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran on June 13, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes. Israel launched 'Operation Rising Lion' with a surprise attack on Friday, targeting Iranian military leadership, nuclear facilities, and ballistic missile production sites. The operation resulted in the deaths of dozens, including top Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists. Israeli officials said the campaign would intensify in the coming days. In retaliation, Iran launched waves of drones and missiles at Israeli targets over the weekend, hitting both military bases and civilian infrastructure. Israeli authorities said that at least 24 people have been killed and hundreds injured in Iranian missile attacks since Friday according to Anadolu Agency. Iran, for its part, said that at least 224 people have been killed and over 1,000 others wounded in the Israeli assault.

The ongoing repatriation is being managed at Pakistan House, where all necessary facilities have been provided to those arriving from Iran. Taftan administration assured that the process is continuing smoothly and that further returnees will be accommodated in the coming days. Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), in close coordination with Iraqi Airways, successfully facilitated the repatriation of 268 Pakistani nationals earlier on Monday through two special flights from Basra to Karachi and Islamabad. Both flights have safely arrived in Pakistan. The ministry remains actively engaged with Iraqi Airways and other relevant Iraqi authorities to ensure the safe and timely return of the remaining Pakistani zaireen in Iraq, MoFA said in a statement. All Pakistani zaireen currently in Iraq are advised to remain in close contact with the Pakistan Embassy in Baghdad, designated mandoobs, and their respective airlines for timely updates on their travel arrangements, the statement added. Iraqi Airways is presently operating daily flights on the Basra to Dubai route. On Monday, some Pakistani nationals availed themselves of this option. Those interested in travelling via this route are encouraged to contact the nearest Iraqi Airways office for booking and assistance, MoFA said. All zaireen are further advised to remain prepared for travel at short notice. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to monitor the situation closely and remains fully committed to facilitating the safe and orderly return of all Pakistani zaireen, the statement read.
