Stray Kids Members Dominate One Billboard Chart — While The Band Doesn't

Stray Kids members dominate Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart with tracks from Mixtape: ... More Dominate, owning the top three spots as duos. (Photo by Gilbert Flores/Penske Media via Getty Images) Stray Kids is one of the most successful K-pop groups in the world, and while it often takes the full band to top charts, this week proves that the members can pull off something incredible on their own. The singers that make up the group are having a standout frame on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart, where they're not just placing well, they're almost completely taking over. Oddly, the band itself barely factors in. Stray Kids and its singers claim five spaces on the World Digital Song Sales chart. The tally only ranks the 10 bestselling 'world' tunes in the U.S., which means the K-pop act owns half the list. These tunes dominate the highest reaches of the roster, as tracks from the band's new project Mixtape: Dominate occupy the three highest spaces, and that turned out to be just the beginning for the K-pop favorites. Leading the charge is 'Escape,' which debuts at No. 1. The cut is credited to Bang Chan and Hyunjin, two members of Stray Kids. This frame, they own the bestselling world tune in the U.S., and plenty of their bandmates are right behind them. Lee Know and Seungmin launch 'Cinema' at No. 2, narrowly missing out on a first place start. Meanwhile, Changbin and I.N settle right behind them with 'Burning Trees,' which starts at No. 3. While the individual members are running the show this week, Stray Kids does show up once on the World Digital Song Sales chart. The group's track 'Giant' re-enters the ranking at No. 4. It's only managed two weeks on the tally so far, and during its debut frame, it peaked at No. 2. The only member of Stray Kids not represented on Mixtape: Dominate's wins on this tally still makes his presence felt on the list. Felix appears at No. 9 this frame thanks to 'Reawaker,' his collaborative track with Japanese singer Lisa. The tune once ruled the roster, and even though it's falling this frame — from No. 5 to No. 9 — it's holding on for a twelfth week. All of Stray Kids' new arrivals on the World Digital Song Sales chart come from Mixtape: Dominate. While the project is too short to qualify for any Billboard album charts, it's clearly still making an impact. The set itself may not be found on any tally, but the group members do find space on the list and score solo wins, which don't add to the boy band's overall discography, at least as far as the Billboard rankings are concerned.

Stray Kids Mark The Band's Busiest Week Ever On The Charts

Stray Kids emerged as one of the most successful K-pop acts in the Western world years ago, and the superstars continue to score win after win after win. The boy band has already landed a number of bestselling albums and hit songs in key markets like the United States and the United Kingdom, but this week marks a high point for the group in the U.K., as the pop stars flood multiple tallies with a quartet of new tracks, all taken from a just-released project. Four brand new tracks by Stray Kids debut on the U.K. charts this week. All four songs appear on two rankings apiece — the Official Singles Downloads and the Official Singles Sales tallies. At least two of the four cuts manage to become top 40 hits, which typically marks the threshold for when a track is considered a true success in many places. Of the four debuts, "Truman" leads the charge. The single opens at No. 29 on the Official Singles Downloads chart and No. 33 on the Official Singles Sales list. Just a few places behind comes "Escape," which kicks off its run at Nos. 32 and No. 35, respectively, on the same rankings. "Burnin' Tires" doesn't quite manage to reach the top 40 on both rankings, though it comes close. The track starts at No. 37 on the Official Singles Downloads chart, becoming an instant modest win. The same tune falls just shy of the same milestone on the Official Singles Sales list, beginning at No. 41. "Cinema" trails a bit further behind, debuting at No. 44 on the downloads-only tally and No. 47 on the all-encompassing sales chart. Each of the four newly-charting tunes is featured on Mixtape: Dominate, the latest collection from Stray Kids. While the release is labeled a single album in some markets — and an EP in others — it didn't appear to qualify as an album by U.K. standards. Mixtape: Dominate doesn't appear on any of the nation's album charts, though its individual songs sold well enough to do so. This frame now stands as Stray Kids' busiest ever in the U.K. The band has never before debuted four songs at one time. It's rare for the outfit to place more than one tune on the U.K. rankings in a single week, so managing a quartet of debuts at once is a huge showing for the vocal troupe. Stray Kids has now sent 15 tracks to the Official Singles Sales chart. With this week's achievements, the musicians also boost their total on the Official Singles Downloads list to 16. Both of those numbers are impressive totals for a largely non-English-speaking act of any kind in the Western world.

Stray Kids Score Multiple New Bestsellers — But Will The Band's New Project Chart?

Stray Kids's Mixtape: Dominate tracks climb the iTunes chart individually, with four songs landing ... More in the top 50 just hours after release. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: (L-R) Bang Chan, Han, Felix, Seungmin, Hyunjin, I.N, Lee Know, and Changbin of Stray Kids attend The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/MG24/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue) Stray Kids just delivered a new project, but it's not quite a full-length, nor is it a traditional single. The South Korean superstars shared Mixtape: Dominate on Friday (March 21), and while the title is being pushed as a 'single album' in the boy band's home country of South Korea, it's long enough to qualify as an EP in the U.S. – at least on most platforms. Whether Billboard will recognize it as such remains to be seen, but fans are already responding, and not just to the collection as a whole, but to the songs featured on its tracklist individually. In its first hours of availability, every track featured on Mixtape: Dominate manages to reach the U.S. iTunes chart, which ranks the bestselling tunes in America on that one site. The brief project includes just five tunes, and all of them are selling well. Three cuts — "Escape" (No. 34), "Truman" (No. 37), and "Cinema" (No. 38) — have all broken into the top 40. That placement is generally accepted as the cutoff point when determining whether a song is a real hit on the platform, so these placements hint at early success. Just a few spots behind that trio of new bestsellers sits "Burnin' Tires," which launches at No. 44. The lowest-ranking of the five cuts, the Korean-language version of "Giant," opens at No. 76, placing it outside the higher tiers – but it's still selling fairly well. Unlike many of the group's efforts, Mixtape: Dominate specifically shines a spotlight on the individual members of Stray Kids. While all the five songs are officially credited to the band as a whole, each track is also associated with specific artists from within the group, as their names are listed in parentheses. "Escape" belongs to Bang Chan and Hyunjin. "Truman" is credited to Han and Felix, while "Cinema" goes to Lee Know and Seungmin. "Burnin' Tires" features only two members, Changbin and I.N. Only the Korean rendition of "Giant" is just a group effort. While fans are quickly buying the individual songs, Mixtape: Dominate hasn't yet cracked the iTunes albums chart in the U.S. That's not entirely surprising, given the format. In South Korea, single albums are often shorter than typical EPs, and they chart as albums. The distinction between an EP and a single album can be enough to disqualify them from U.S. charts, but Mixtape: Dominate may just be long enough to find space on rankings like the Top Album Sales roster or even the Billboard 200, depending on a handful of factors.
