Seize free training opportunities via NTW 2025, Kuching MP urges S'wak youth

According to Yii, NTW 2025 is organised by HRD Corp in conjunction with the Asean Year of Skills, under the theme 'Learning Beyond Borders.' KUCHING (June 19): Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has called on young Sarawakians to actively take part in National Training Week (NTW) 2025, describing it as a valuable opportunity to equip themselves with future-ready skills for the digital economy. He noted that NTW 2025, recently launched by the Ministry of Human Resources at Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, is free of charge and open to all Malaysians. 'The opportunities provided through this platform are highly relevant to the needs of our people, particularly in areas such as digital literacy and artificial intelligence (AI); entrepreneurship and financial planning; Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and technical skills; creativity, arts and innovation; as well as life skills and mental wellness,' he said in a statement. 'NTW 2025 provides a unique opportunity to gain practical, career-relevant knowledge through physical workshops, live online sessions, self-paced e-learning, and coaching programmes.' According to Yii, NTW 2025 is organised by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) in conjunction with the Asean Year of Skills, under the theme 'Learning Beyond Borders.' 'This nationwide and regional initiative offers over 65,000 free training courses and 1,000 high-impact learning and development activities – all of which are accessible to all Malaysians and citizens across Asean,' he said. 'To date, NTW 2025 has recorded more than two million participants, surpassing its initial national target of one million. Of these, 40 per cent are enrolled in courses related to Industry 4.0, highlighting our nation's readiness to embrace future skills.' Yii, who is also political secretary to the Human Resources Minister, added that one of the standout features of this year's NTW is the 'AI-4-Educators' programme, which is launched in partnership with the Ministry of Education. 'The programme has successfully trained over 395,000 educators from across the country between April 7 and June 12 this year, earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for the largest AI training participation among educators. 'This initiative reflects a bold step towards building a digitally literate and future-ready generation,' he said. Further information on NTW can be found at its website

49 MAF veterans secure second careers in high-tech industry

MELAKA: Forty-nine Armed Forces (MAF) veterans have successfully secured second careers in the high-technology industry through the Veteran MyWIRA programme launched in January last year. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said this marks a significant achievement in ensuring that the veterans not only secure employment but also earn a better income after completing their service. 'They are now working in the electrical and electronics industry in Penang with a starting salary of RM2,900. 'This programme helps ensure a more comfortable livelihood, considering that many veterans fall into the B40 group as they lose about half of their income after retiring,' he told a press conference after officiating the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) award ceremony at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, here today. Adly said the ministry is committed to ensuring at least 70 per cent of MAF veterans secure a post-retirement career through various initiatives including collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources and higher learning institutions. 'In addition to programmes that empower veterans in entrepreneurship and ensuring that the defence industry involves at least 30 per cent of veterans, we have also launched a Second Career campaign through work-based learning where the veterans' previous careers and expertise are given academic recognition. 'For this purpose, we are working with several higher learning institutions such as Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to confer them with certificates or diplomas so that these credentials can be used to pursue a second career and their experience can be formally recognised,' Adly said. Earlier at the event, 1,000 MAF veterans from Melaka and Negeri Sembilan were awarded Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM), a medal bestowed in recognition of their valour and sacrifices in fulfilling their duty to the nation. As of March this year, a total of 48,346 MAF veterans have been conferred the PJM since it was coordinated by the Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV) in March 2004.

JTKSM committed to protecting workers' rights and welfare

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and interests of workers in the country, said its director-general Kamal Pardi. He said as an agency under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), JTKSM was responsible for enforcing various labour laws to protect the interests of both workers and employers. He said that JTKSM was tasked with protecting the rights and interests of workers, including matters related to wages, leave, housing, and the provision of a safe and conducive working environment. 'This is to ensure that the welfare, performance and skills of workers continue to be prioritised to boost productivity and work quality, thereby contributing to the country's economic growth,' he said when featured on Bernama TV's Apa Khabar Malaysia programme recently. Among the laws enforced by JTKSM are the Employment Act 1955, the Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act, and the Minimum Wage Order. Kamal said JTKSM also regulated the employment of children and young persons to safeguard their welfare and future. He explained that children involved in the entertainment and modelling industries, for example, were required to obtain a licence and permission from JTKSM to ensure their welfare and studies were not affected. Kamal added that JTKSM regularly carried out enforcement operations and inspections, including at workplaces and accommodation facilities provided by employers, to ensure compliance with the law. 'This is important to safeguard workers' welfare and health, thereby increasing productivity and work quality when they are able to work and rest adequately,' he said. He urged workers to report any mistreatment or violations of their rights to JTKSM through proper channels or email, assuring that the identity of the complainant would be kept confidential. 'JTKSM will investigate and take action against employers who violate the law to ensure justice for workers,' he said. Enquiries or complaints may be submitted via email to jtksm@ or by contacting the call centre at 03-88865192.
