Saudi Culture Ministry Launches National Cultural Awards 2025

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Culture has launched the fifth edition of the National Cultural Awards to honor unique talents in the culture sector, according to the Saudi Press Agency. The ministry will open nominations for cultural sector awards soon to the public and the cultural community. Participants can submit their applications via the online platform and the evaluation team will review and select the winners. Interestingly, the 2025 edition will feature two new awards categories: the Handicrafts Award and the Cultural Media Award. In line with the Year of Handicrafts 2025, the new category will further support the handicrafts sector and encourage outstanding talents. Meanwhile, the second new category will honor the efforts of individuals and institutions for their pivotal efforts in promoting cultural media. The annual event basically consists of five awards, as follows: Cultural Personality of the Year Award Youth Culture Award International Cultural Excellence Award Businessmen and Women Award Cultural Institutions Award Moreover, it highlights other awards dedicated to sub-cultural sectors, such as: Film Award Fashion Award Music Award National Heritage Award Literature Award Theatre and Performing Arts Award Visual Arts Award Architecture and Design Award Culinary Arts Award Publishing Award Translation Award Overall, the initiative stands as a testament to the ministry's dedication to supporting cultural production and encouraging national cultural talents. Following its 2023 debut, the second edition of 'Terhal' will showcase Saudi culture through music, dance, and storytelling, with two nightly performances throughout August. The Ministry of Culture is bringing back its theatrical production 'Terhal' for a second edition at the Mayadeen Venue in Diriyah, with performances running from August 4th to the 25th daily (excluding Sundays). Building on its 2023 debut, the show offers a cultural experience inspired by Saudi Arabia's heritage, customs, and landscapes.'Terhal' follows the story of a young Saudi man on a journey to define his identity and contribute to the Kingdom's future. The performance blends live music, dance, and dynamic stagecraft to bring the narrative to life, incorporating scenes that reflect the beauty of Saudi Arabia's diverse landscapes and the strength of its production features a mix of local talents and international performers, with over 60 artists contributing to the immersive theatrical experience. Two performances will take place each evening at 7:00 PM and 10:30 PM. Tickets start at SAR 100 and are available through the official WeBook platform.

Ahmed Malek Lands Next Lead Movie Role

Yara Sameh Egyptian actor Ahmed Malek has landed his next lead movie role in the film "Sawa Sawa" (Working Title). Malek made his last appearance on the big screen in the romance film "6 Ayam" ('6 Days'), starring Aya Samaha. The pic hails from director Karim Shaaban, in his full-length feature film debut. Shaaban directs the pic from a script by Wael Hamdy. ‎Sea Cinema Productions‎ is the studio behind the film. The official logline reads: "Fate brought them back together. Can they rewrite their ending." The film follows Youssef and Alia meet again by chance years after a forced separation during high school. With each on a different life path. Their reunion stirs up memories and raises new possibilities, blending themes of love, friendship, and life's unexpected turns. As they navigate who they've become, the story reflects on whether feelings endure or evolve as we grow and mature. "6 Ayam" hit Cinemas in Egypt on January 15 and in the Arab World on January 16. It has grossed more than EGP24.2 million in theaters. Born on September 29, 1995, Malek landed his first role in the 2005 TV series "Ayamna el helwa" (Our Good Days). A few years later, he made his feature debut in the 2008 film "Mafish Fayda", starring Moustafa Amar and Basma. Brunei's gold medal came from Mohamad Khalil Kamarulzaman in the junior kumite male 76+ kilograms (kg) category while the only silver medal is from Nur Damia Zawanah in the junior kumite female 66+ kg category. Following the three days of competition, Vietnam's karate team emerged as champion with 28 gold, 31 silver and 17 bronze medals while Indonesia was in second place with 11 gold, nine silver and 24 bronze medals followed by Thailand in third place with eight gold, six silver and 27 bronze. Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Mohd Hasnan Ali Hassan witnessed the action-packed finale of the senior male team kumite. Brunei Karate Federation Executive President Yura Kesteria Mohammad Yusof said, 'We are proud of Brunei Darussalam's achievement of having secured one gold, one silver and seven bronze medals. This commendable result reflects the growing strength and potential of karate in the country.' A highlight of the closing ceremony saw the handing over of the flag to the next host of the SEAKF Championships.
