Kuwait expected to award consultancy deal for 900MW Subiya power plant expansion in Q4
Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy is expected to award the consultancy services contract for the 900 megawatt (MW) Phase 4 of the Subiya Power and Water Distillation Plant project in Subiya in the third quarter of 2025, a source aware of the details said. The consultancy services tender was issued on 27 April 2025, with a bid submission deadline set for 24 June 2025. The scope of the contract is supply, installation, operation and maintenance of combined cycle gas turbine units to increase the existing plant's power generation capacity by 900 MW. 'The contract award is expected in August 2025,' the source said, adding that the project completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. In April 2025, a Zawya Projects report said the Subiya project is estimated to cost around 257 million Kuwaiti dinars ($848 million). (Reporting by Deva Palanisamy; Editing by Anoop Menon) (

Kuwait's Nuwaiseeb Power Plant set to get dual-fuel supply lines
KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy intends to construct fuel lines feeding the Nuwaiseeb Power Plant for generating electricity and distilling water using two types of fuel -- gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Sources explained that the fuel lines project is part of preparations for the Nuwaiseeb Power Plant, which is aimed at securing the electricity grid. Sources said this is one of the important future projects that will supply the grid with around 7,200 megawatts and 180 million imperial gallons of water in two phases -- the first has a capacity of 3,600 megawatts. Sources stated that the project to construct fuel pipelines is expected to be tendered in the current fiscal year -- under established procedures and regulations -- as a limited and non-divisible public tender. They added the project aims to meet the station's growing need for various types of fuel; including the construction of the necessary pipelines for all types of fuel, and modernizing fuel receiver systems and pipelines to operate the station's system and equipment; thereby, improving fuel efficiency. They indicated that the Nuwaiseeb station will operate under the 'combined cycle' system; which produces more energy with the same amount of fuel, reduces the amount consumed per unit, reduces emissions compared to the unit's output, and enables future expansion and operation with more than one type of fuel.

Iraq-Turkey power line capacity to be doubled to 600 MW
Iraq's Ministry of Electricity has signed a contract with Turkish company Alifrin to double the capacity of the Iraq-Turkey power line from 300 megawatts (MW) to 600 MW. All technical requirements for the interconnection, including the necessary stations and lines, as well as fulfilling all contractual obligations, have been completed, the Iraqi News Agency reported, citing a ministry statement. The new contract includes equipping the grid with 300 MW as a first phase via the Jazara-Kask 400 kV interconnection line in Nineveh Governorate. The capacity increase will be completed within less than one month. The project will directly contribute to increasing the hours of supply to the northern regions and is part of the government's strategy to diversify energy sources. The Iraq-Turkey interconnection line will link the Iraqi grid to the European power grid, the statement said. Kuwait energizes grid with new high-tech cyber armor
Kuwait - The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has completed four new contracts to protect its electronic infrastructure from hackers and cyber criminal breaches, say sources from the ministry. Sources disclosed that the contracts will be offered for bidding soon through the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT), through which the ministry shall seek the assistance of companies specialized in this field that meet the technical requirements and financial capabilities. Sources stated that the first contract is for combating 'ransomware', a type of malware that encrypts users' files or blocks access to a computer system. It then demands a ransom in exchange for decrypting or restoring access after the devices are infected. A message is also sent requesting payment of certain amounts to decrypt files or restore access to the device. Sources added that the second contract is for the identification and assessment of cybersecurity strengths and weaknesses, third is for the provision of practical and implementable recommendations to improve the ability of the ministry to respond quickly and effectively to cybersecurity breaches, and fourth is for uncovering the most dangerous unknown threats and exploited vulnerabilities in harmless infrastructure that amplify cybersecurity risks. Meanwhile, sources revealed that three companies are competing for the tender to supply and install 400 kV overhead lines connecting Shagaya (z) SGRE solar power conversion station to Subiya 2-SWPS power plant. Sources said the bids were submitted through CAPT, which referred the bids to the ministry for review and preparation of technical recommendations. CAPT will then make the award decision based on the requirements. Sources confirmed that the tender is one of the important projects the ministry is counting on to transfer the electricity generated from Shagaya renewable energy plant to the Subiya plant, and then use it to feed the electricity grid; taking into consideration the projects being prepared for tendering at the Shagaya station to produce 4,500 megawatts of renewable energy.
