SUPERMAN Reportedly Takes a Comic-Inspired Episodic Approach — GeekTyrant

DC Studios treated fans with a full trailer for James Gunn's Superman yesterday, and the film has a great vibe, the tone feels right, and it looks like it will tell a solid story. But now, new insider info offers some interesting details. According to inside scooper Daniel Richtman, the movie reportedly adopts an episodic structure, inspired by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman . That comic is known for its vignette-style storytelling, with each chapter exploring a different facet of the Man of Steel's character. If this structure carries over to the film, we're not just looking at a traditional three-act blockbuster, we're getting something more lyrical, more segmented, and possibly more emotionally resonant. If this is true, it's a creative choice that might divide audiences, but at the very least, it's a unique way to tell a Superman story. There's big confidence coming from inside the studio. Warner Bros. film heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca recently sang Gunn's praises after seeing an early cut of Superman. 'I used to chase James as a producer when he did Slither and started with his low-budget movies,' De Luca said. 'He's really unique and I think DC is in great hands with the two of them.' 'We've seen an early cut of Superman,' De Luca added, 'and I don't want to bury the lead… He really understood the assignment. His heart's in the right place, his aim is true, and we're really excited about their new version of DC.' Superman will face off against Jurassic World: Rebirth and Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps in a July box office showdown that's bound to pull in some big box office numbers. 'In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who's driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.' David Corenswet suits up as Superman/Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult playing Lex Luthor. The ensemble also includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, and Milly Alcock. Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
