Knicks' Head Coach Target Named 'Long Shot' After Report
Knicks' Head Coach Target Named 'Long Shot' After Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Knicks enter the NBA offseason as the only team in the league still searching for their next head coach. Advertisement Of course, the Knicks made the shocking decision to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau after he helped lead them to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000. Despite New York's success this season, they clearly felt that it was time for a change on the sidelines and they now have a crucial decision to make in their head coaching search. Former New York Knicks head coach Tom ThibodeauVincent Carchietta-Imagn Images It has been reported that the Knicks tried to interview Jason Kidd, Chris Finch Ime Udoka, Billy Donovan and Quin Snyder, but their teams all denied New York a chance to do so. Now the Knicks have pivoted in a different direction as they have reportedly interviewed former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown along with former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins. © Ed Szczepanski-Imagn Images Another coached linked to the Knicks' job is Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Johnnie Bryant, who was also a finalist for the Phoenix Suns' head coaching job before they decided to hire Jordan Ott. Advertisement While Bryant has been linked to New York, Knicks insider Ian Begley recently reported that he remains a 'long shot' to become the franchise's next head coach. 'I heard late last week that Johnnie was more of a longer shot there,' Begley said. When you're talking about the coaches who've been in or will be in for interviews, the guys we've already talked about, I think those are the guys who have much higher odds of landing this thing than Johnnie Bryant.' This is a massive report by Begley as Bryant had emerged as one of the favorites to be the next head coach in New York, though that no longer seems to be the case. Advertisement Of course, it seems as though the Knicks are looking to hire a coach who already has experience as a head coach in the NBA and because of that, it looks as though they will head in a different direction than Bryant. Former Knicks assistant unlikely to become next head coach
As the New York Knicks continue their search for a new head coach, their options have become clearer. So far, they have formally interviewed both Taylor Jenkins and Mike Brown while also expressing interest in other candidates. Johnnie Bryant is unlikely to become the next Knicks head coach However, one potential candidate seems to be essentially ruled out. According to SNY's Ian Begley, it is not likely that former Knicks associate head coach and current Cavaliers assistant Johnnie Bryant will become the next head coach for New York. Johnnie Bryant, New York Knicks 'I just heard last week that with Johnnie it was more of a longer shot there,' Begley said. 'When you talk about the coaches who have been in, or will be in, for interviews, I think those are the guys that have much higher odds at landing this thing than Johnnie Bryant.' Advertisement Bryant was heavily rumored as a candidate shortly after Tom Thibodeau was fired, thanks to his ties with the organization. Bryant was the Knicks' associate head coach under Thibodeau from 2020-24 and held the same role under Kenny Atkinson with the Cavaliers this past season. They are coming off their best season in over 25 years and are ready to take the next step towards becoming a championship team. While it is not completely ruled out that Bryant will become the next head coach, it is highly unlikely that they will turn to him unless the options become thin. Advertisement Related Headlines

Mike Brown interviews with Knicks as search continues
The Knicks' head coaching search is heating up. They interviewed longtime NBA coach Mike Brown on Wednesday, according to a report from league insider Jake Fischer. The latest news comes less than a week after The Post confirmed the Knicks would be interviewing Brown, who was fired midseason as head coach of the Kings last year, and former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins. The Knicks have had a rollercoaster of a coaching search since firing Tom Thibodeau earlier this month after five seasons at the helm. Team brass initially sought to interview Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd for their vacancy, but were quickly denied in their efforts. The Knicks were later rebuffed after asking to speak with Houston's Ime Udoka, Minnesota's Chris Finch, Atlanta's Quin Snyder and Chicago's Billy Donovan as well, according to various reports. Kings head coach Mike Brown reacts during a game against the Pelicans. AP In 2022-23, Brown led the Kings to the franchise's first playoff appearance in 17 years. He has a career head coaching record of 454-304 in 11 seasons fronting the Cavaliers, the Lakers and the Kings, including a trip to the NBA Finals with Cleveland in 2006-07. Kings head coach Mike Brown talks to his team during their win over the Suns on Dec. 22, 2023 in Sacramento, Calif. Getty Images Jenkins went 250-214 over six seasons with the Grizzlies, but only led Memphis to one playoff series win during his tenure. He was let go as coach of the Grizzlies with just nine games to go during the regular season despite a winning record. Former Nuggets coach Michael Malone is perhaps the biggest name available on the market, though there hasn't been much traction between him and the Knicks. Former Villanova head coach Jay Wright and UConn's Dan Hurley took themselves out of the running for the position.

HS2 boss was accused of covering up rail delays
The new chairman of HS2 was accused of covering up delays in another large-scale rail project. Mike Brown, the former Transport for London commissioner, will be announced as the multi-billion-pound railway scheme's new chairman on Wednesday. But six years ago, when Mr Brown was in charge of Crossrail, the London Assembly found he covered up delays to the cross-capital underground railway line. A 2019 report said Mr Brown 'largely ignored' crucial information from engineers in favour of telling politicians and fellow senior public officials that everything was on track. Keith Prince, the London Assembly Conservatives' transport spokesman, said on Wednesday: 'This is nothing short of a disgrace – the allegation that the then-chair of TfL lied, attempted to cover his tracks, and was ultimately rewarded for this completely boggles the mind. 'This will be a serious knock to the faith the public have in the Government, and the Mayor of London, as they ask themselves how else the wool is being pulled over their eyes.' Internal Transport for London (TfL) messages, published by the London Assembly in 2019, showed how Mr Brown, who was TfL's project sponsor for Crossrail, withheld crucial details of delays from Sir Sadiq Khan, the London mayor.

HS2 opening set to be delayed again as costs soar
The government is expected to announce a delay to the London to Birmingham stretch of the HS2 high-speed rail project beyond its 2033 target opening date, due to soaring costs. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander will address Parliament, outlining a £37bn increase in HS2 's costs since its approval in 2012 and vowing consequences for those who overcharged taxpayers. The government aims to learn from HS2 's failures to improve the delivery of future infrastructure projects like Northern Powerhouse Rail and the Lower Thames Crossing. Two reviews into HS2, led by Mark Wild and James Stewart, are expected to be announced alongside the Transport Secretary's statement, focusing on construction progress and governance issues. A new chair of HS2, Mike Brown, former commissioner for Transport for London, will be announced, replacing Sir Jon Thompson, as the Transport Secretary is expected to address allegations of fraud by contractors to HS2.
