Frank Reynolds Crashes Middle-earth in Unhinged LORD OF THE RINGS Mashup Video — GeekTyrant

If you've ever wanted to watch Middle-earth descend into absolute degeneracy, this 'It's Always Sunny in Middle-Earth' video delivers with chaotic precision. In this deranged fan edit by Your_Kryptonite7, Danny DeVito's Frank Reynolds stumbles straight out of Philly and into The Lord of the Rings , turning Tolkien's epic into a fever dream of gunfire, profanity, and gross bodily concerns. Frank doesn't care about rings or destiny, he's here to harass Gollum about STDs, ask Sauron if he can resurrect his 'dead whore wife,' and generally cause the kind of havoc that would make even Saruman think twice. It's like watching a trash goblin invade a poetry recital, and it hilariously works.

Alpine Cascades and beyond: Exploring Berlin, N.H.'s rugged beauty

A scene from Berlin, N.H. Miles Howard Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Just 10 minutes north of the Whites — a fond and familiar place — I have entered another world. As you approach downtown Berlin by way of 1st Avenue, a historical marker posted in front of a railroad bridge announces that you are heading into 'The City That Trees Built.' And that's not a metaphorical flourish. Berlin was the heart of New Hampshire's timber processing and paper production for over a century. Super-sawmills powered by the flow of the Androscoggin were followed by paper mills that operated through most of the 20th century. This industrial heyday yielded decades of prosperity for Berlin. By 1930, it was the Granite State's fourth-largest city and the first in the state to offer electric lighting, thanks to one of the mills' hydro power stations. Advertisement A scene from Berlin, N.H. Miles Howard The decline of the paper industry and the mass layoffs that followed sent thousands of Berlin residents to places elsewhere and left the city searching for its next chapter. And when I return from Alpine Cascades for a downtown stroll, I find glimmers of what's worked and what's still up in the air. The cooling tower of a wood-burning biomass plant looms near Main Street, where the brick buildings contain a mix of vacant storefronts and small businesses that feel more reflective of local life than the main drag in North Conway. Families are tucking into sundaes and floats at But the place that really calls out to me is Middle Earth — a soft-lit, labyrinthine gift store that defies categorization. On the first floor, I'm tempted by replicas of Egyptian canopic jars, colorful wind chimes, and miniature statues of dragons and fairies. On the adults-only second floor, I'm impressed by the collection of hand-crafted pipes and bongs housed in glass cases, and the range of sex toys and kinky apparel on display. But what's even more impressive is learning from the store's owner, Richard Poulin, that Middle Earth has been in business since the 1960s! Advertisement A scene from Berlin, N.H. Miles Howard Maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Industries rise and fall, but the human need for irreverence, pleasure, and discovery is evergreen. With my shopping bag in hand, I wander over from Main Street to the Dead River — one of the Androscoggin's tributaries, where a waterside path takes me through a lovely corridor of north country white birch trees. And looming up ahead is the mass of Jericho Mountain with its sweeping cliff faces — which I savor from the outdoor patio of The Middle Earth store in Berlin, N.H. Handout But the timber forests and the remaining hydropower stations aren't the only windows into Berlin's history as a place where natural resources were harvested. Craving another perspective of the city, I head to Berlin Middle High School, where a 0.8-mile trail leads to the top of Mount Jasper. I'm expecting the stone stairs and the bog bridges, but what's different are the illustrated signs along the trail that tell the story of how pre-contact Indigenous peoples traveled to Mount Jasper to quarry rhyolite rock — from which knives and arrowheads could be carved. Somehow, knowing this part of Berlin history makes the view from the windswept summit look even vaster. As it turns out, jaw-dropping vistas are the running theme for the end of my day in Berlin. One of the only New Hampshire state parks where I could grab a last-minute tent site reservation at the height of summer is Jericho Mountain State Park, which is hidden in the hills north of downtown. The spiderweb of ATV trails spanning the park's 7,400 acres are the prime recreational draw for visitors. (And with the help of local outfitters like Jericho Adventures and Northeast ATV Rentals, I might take my inaugural ride the next time I'm in town.) But the feature that makes my jaw drop is Jericho Lake; a big, beautiful body of water where I take in a pink-and-purple sunset from a lone wooden bench, before the inevitable whining of the mosquitoes sends me back to my tent. Advertisement A scene from Berlin, N.H. Miles Howard I'll be back here in the morning — to witness the sunrise and to case the periphery of the woods for the entrance to a pathway that leads to another thunderous cascade called Jericho Falls. Trees have built Berlin, and today, those woodlands contain many of its most wondrous secrets.

Andy Serkis Says THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM Will Feel Like THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy — GeekTyrant

Andy Serkis is officially headed back to Middle-earth as an actor and director, and he just gave a promising update on The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum . It's exactly the kind of reassurance fans of the original trilogy have been hoping for. In a recent interview with Collider while promoting his upcoming adaptation of Animal Farm , Serkis shared that while the film is still in its early stages, real movement is happening soon. Prep work is ramping up in the next few months, with filming set to begin in early to mid-2026. The release is slated for December 2027. Serkis talked about the film saying: 'We're very early on in the process. We've been talking about the film over the course of the last year. We're about to start a period of prep in the next few months or so. 'We will be shooting in the early to mid-part of next year, I guess, and then it'll be as long as it takes to shoot, which — it's a sizable movie — all ready for a December 2027 release. 'I'm incredibly excited to go back and work with my friends and family in New Zealand and actually do something which is, I think, going to be surprising, and yet very much part of the lore and the feel of the trilogy. 'The sensibility of it will feel, I think, close to that, and yet we're investigating in greater depth the character formerly known as Smeagol, but mostly known as Gollum.' Serkis is aiming for the same tone, scope, and heart of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. That should ease some anxiety from fans still smarting from the uneven Hobbit films or skeptical of more Tolkien spin-offs. Set during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring , The Hunt for Gollum follows Gandalf's pursuit of Gollum after realizing Bilbo's ring is actually the One Ring. It's an interquel that fills in a crucial gap, and Serkis, who will also reprise his iconic role as Gollum, is the only confirmed cast member so far. But, Ian McKellen is also expected to return. Lord of the Rings fans are pretty protective of the original trilogy's legacy. Expanding on that world is always a high-wire act. But Serkis isn't rushing in. He's taking his time, planning carefully, and grounding the project in what made the originals so special. His deep connection to the material, and to Gollum in particular, makes him a uniquely qualified guide for this chapter. I hoipe that he pulls it off. If this movie delivers on what Serkis is promising, a character-focused journey with the emotional and mythic weight of the trilogy, it could be a powerful return to form.

LEGO's New LORD OF THE RINGS Set Decides What Shall and Shall Not Pass Your Bookshelf — GeekTyrant

LEGO is once again dipping into the fires of Mount Doom to deliver something precious, and this time, it's sized for your bookshelf. Fresh off the release of this year's major Lord of the Rings set, The Shire, Lego has announced a new addition to its Middle-earth offerings: a $130, 1,201-piece book nook recreating the fiery clash between Gandalf and the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. And yeah, it includes a brick with 'You shall not pass!' printed front and center, so prepare to deliver your best Ian McKellen impression every time you glance at it. Unlike the sprawling, shelf-swallowing sets Lego usually puts out for this franchise, this one folds neatly into the shape of an upright book. Or, if you prefer, it unfurls into a fiery diorama showcasing Gandalf standing his ground against the Balrog, complete with flame-whip, massive wings, and burning stone columns. This new entry is part of a growing book nook line. Until now, Lego's Tolkien tributes have typically come as once-a-year, premium sets aimed at the deep-pocketed and display-case crowd. If you're a fan of this franchise, this fiery little set might just be the unexpected party your shelf didn't know it needed.
