National Highways: Highway Expansion Seen as Key to India's Vision of Economic Growth, ET Infra

He stated that a sound and functional road network contributes to socio-economic growth and aligns with the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat by at the 233rd Mid-Term Council Meeting of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) held at Mizoram University Campus in Aizawl, Shri Malhotra highlighted the expansion of National Highways in the past 11 years. According to him, the network has increased by more than 60 per cent, from 91,000 km in 2014 to approximately 1.47 lakh km at meeting was attended by Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma, Cabinet Minister Shri Vanlalhlana, and Member of Parliament Shri Richard on sustainable and cost-efficient road constructionShri Malhotra called for the adoption of globally tested technologies to reduce construction costs without compromising on quality. He noted the need for sustainable practices and use of eco-friendly methods and modern techniques in road recognised the Indian Roads Congress for its contribution to road standards and on the development in North East India, the minister said that the region has seen the construction of nearly 10,000 km of National Highways over the past 11 years, at a cost exceeding ₹1.07 lakh crore. He said this has improved connectivity to remote and border areas.'Infrastructure is not just about concrete and steel—it is the foundation of economic growth, the pathway to prosperity, and the symbol of the Prime Minister's vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047, which is rooted in building a resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive nation,' he said.
