63 Thoughts I Had While Watching And Just Like That… Season 3, Episode 4

I'm going to warn you guys in advance that this particular installment of And Just Like That… is, well, not exactly a thrill ride. I mean, it's hard to top the fun of episodes past, not to mention the original Sex and the City canon (I just rewatched the episodes where the girls go to LA, and man, I miss Samantha), but do things really have to be this dry and Aidan-centric? Nonetheless we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into Michael Patrick King's intellectual property. Below, find (literally) every thought I had about the fourth episode of And Just Like That…'s third season:

'Sex and the City' Star Makes Major Admission About the Hit Show

On the heels of And Just Like That... premiering season 3 on HBO Max, Sarah Jessica Parker walked down memory lane of the role that changed her life, Carrie Bradshaw, on Sex and the City. And near the tail end of her conversation on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Cooper couldn't help but wonder if Parker had seen any of the SATC episodes to remember anything as production ramped up on And Just Like That.... To Cooper's surprise, nope. "I've never seen most of it," Parker admits. "I've never watched the show. I watched it in the beginning and there was a period in which I was getting dailies and rough cuts from the studio, but I finally begged off." Why did she beg off? It's actually kinda relatable. "Because, A) I wasn't keeping up. [Sex and the City principal director and writer] Michael Patrick [King] was like, 'You gotta watch, you gotta give me notes. You gotta watch it.' And then I realized that I wasn't being helpful because it was so unpleasant for me to watch myself that I couldn't see the work. And that's not a good producing partner. I was able to be a partner in lots of other ways." Sex and the City premiered in 1998 on HBO. The dramedy was created by Darren Star and based on Candace Bushnell's 1996 book of her sex columns. The series, which aired 94 episodes across six seasons, starred Parker, Kim Cattrall (as Samantha Jones), Kristin Davis (as Charlotte York) and Cynthia Nixon (as Miranda Hobbes). The successful series, which follows the lives of four friends navigating relationships and sex (lots of sex), spawned the sequel And Just Like That...., which is now in its third season. Sarah Jessica Parker's mid-interview confession causes outrage

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker dropped a confession in a new interview so surprising that it left even shock jock Howard Stern lost for words. The Sex and the City star appeared on Stern's podcast to publicise the recently-launched third season of And Just Like That, a sequel of sorts to SATC. No surprises that Stern wanted to discuss one controversial scene in particular that aired during And Just Like That' s season three premiere: SJP's character Carrie's awkward attempt at phone sex with long-distance boyfriend Aidan (John Corbett). The scene unfolds in semi-graphic detail – something that left some longtime SATC fans shocked. 'He's having phone sex with you, he's about to, y'know, play with himself – and he licks his hand,' Stern began. 'He takes his tongue and he starts licking his hand, and he plays with his penis …' Parker interjected during Stern's X-rated description to ask, 'I'm sorry, what?' But she wasn't just playing coy for laughs. As Parker went on to explain, she's barely watched any of And Just Like That across its three seasons to date – or much of Sex and the City, for that matter. 'I've not seen that [scene]; I can't comment on it,' she told Stern. 'I have no knowledge. I haven't seen most of Sex and the City, ever, and I haven't seen And Just Like That. So I don't know, this is the first I'm hearing of that.' Parker confessed And Just Like That co-creator Michael Patrick King would regularly ask her to watch specific episodes – an instruction she's apparently ignored. A visibly stunned Stern called Parker's confession 'crazy' – and many agreed, particularly given Parker is not just the star of the show, but also one of its executive producers, a job that usually entails being across every aspect of a project from beginning to end. The Stern interview also came as part of a PR blitz that has seen Parker and her co-stars submit to dozens of interviews to talk up the new season – apparently, at least in Parker's case, without having watched any of it. The clip drew an incredulous reaction when popular Sex and the City podcasters Every Outfit shared it on their Instagram account, where they called Parker's blasé revelation 'truly shocking.' 'SHE IS AN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER? HOW IS THIS ALLOWED?!' asked another popular SATC fan account, @samanthajonespr. 'If she's not watching … why are we?' another fan asked. Others suggested Parker needs to watch the rebooted show so she can grasp 'how truly bad' it is. Those behind And Just Like That 's official Instagram account tried to weigh in to calm the outrage, commenting that Parker was 'so Carrie with this reply' – a quip that was quickly shouted down as fans told them to 'read the room.' Parker also revealed her cluelessness about the show in another recent interview with the Guardian, revealing that she had no idea there had been a strong viewer reaction against one character. Actor Sara Ramirez played Che Diaz, a stand-up comedian and self-described 'queer non-binary Mexican-Irish diva' who served as a love interest for Miranda. The character was quietly dropped from the show after season two amid ongoing fan backlash. Not that Parker knew about it. 'A friend of mine brought it up to me, and it's like: 'What are you talking about?' And he said: 'Yeah, there's all this conversation,'' Parker told The Guardian. 'I've been an actor for 50 years, and I've almost never paid attention to peripheral chatter.'

Sex and the City star reveals spin-off scene she ‘didn't want to do'

Sarah Jessica Parker discussed an awkward phone sex scene in the latest season of And Just Like That, clarifying she had no influence over it. The scene features Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) and Aidan (John Corbett) engaging in phone sex during their relationship sabbatical, which Carrie ends up faking. Parker stated that the scene was showrunner Michael Patrick King's idea, intended to show Carrie and Aidan attempting to stay connected while respecting boundaries. Despite not wanting to film the scene, telling Glamour she 'didn't want to,' Parker felt she didn't have a strong enough defence against it and agreed to proceed. Parker has previously expressed trust in King's writing, even when Bradshaw's decisions are controversial, and feels contractually obligated to play the character.

Sarah Jessica Parker explains the massive hat she wore that went viral in And Just Like That Season 3 premiere

Max debuted the third season of their Sex and the City continuation And Just Like That..., which went viral for a bizarre headwear choice. Sarah Jessica Parker 's Carrie Bradshaw was seen wearing a massive 'cloud hat' designed by Maryam Keyhani, which many fans discussed on social media. Many compared it to the huge hat worn by the beloved animated character Strawberry Shortcake while many others were just confused. As it turns out, it was Parker, 60, herself who chose the hat, as she revealed in a new interview with USA Today. 'I saw the hat and wanted it on my head. At this point, there's no pretend dilly-dallying around,' Parker admitted. 'We pretty much just put stuff on my head and photograph it, and hope that (creator) Michael Patrick (King) is hospitable to the idea,' she added. As it turns out, it was Parker, 60, herself who chose the hat, as she revealed in a new interview with USA Today The scene featured Carrie walking through Washington Square Park with her friend Seema (Sarita Choudhury), also donning an Ossie Clark brown, pink and white dress that she said reminded her of neapolitan ice cream. She said the dress would feel 'incomplete' without a hat, adding, 'once you've put a lot of hats on your head, you feel like it's missing its punctuation point.' 'So there was that hat. It was going to be a lovely summer day, and it just felt like the period at the end of the sentence. I loved it and (King) agreed,' she said. Parker also joked of King, 'I feel we've really worn him down. His eyes have adapted to large-scale things on heads now, so he's pretty generous about how often they can appear.' King refers to the hat as, 'the Hindenburg hot-air balloon,' adding it felt like a bold choice to kick off a new season. 'It's like, "Hey, everybody, we're back! Here's a hat that Carrie would wear eating sherbet in Washington Square Park. Why not?"' King joked. 'I've learned over the years that sometimes logic is not as good as a hat. It makes people say, "I love it. I hate it. Oh, my God, what was she thinking?"' he added. 'It'll be a meme. It'll be a thing. People will wear it at Halloween. It's always fun, but with that (hat) particularly, I had to call up some of the writers and say, "Get ready. Once it's on the head, it's not coming off,"' he joked. Fans were quick to chime in with their thoughts on the ludicrous hat, with one adding, 'I can get behind the wildest of Carrie's fashion choices but this duvet cover of a hat is truly unhinged.' 'I love the show but someone needs to call the fashion police on Carrie's hat lol!' said another fan. 'I know nothing about fashion, but what is this hat Carrie is wearing?' another fan quipped. 'What's happening here...' someone else wondered. 'Are we all seeing this, is this a joke, what is happening?' another said. 'I'm sorry, but what was that hat? I feel ill.' '2 things I could've done without on the 1st episode of Season 3... This hat and Rosie O'Donnell.'
