Breeze Airways adds two nonstop routes out of RDU

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Breeze Airways announced it would bring two more nonstop flights to Raleigh-Durham International Airport. In a joint announcement with RDU, the airline announced new nonstop flights to Manchester, New Hampshire and Key West, Florida. 'In just two years, Breeze has evolved from a startup serving eight destinations at RDU to a rapidly expanding airline that connects the Research Triangle region with 28 cities,' said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. 'It has been exciting to watch Breeze grow along with RDU, and we welcome the airline's latest investment in the Raleigh-Durham market.' Breeze will fly to Key West on Mondays and Fridays beginning Oct. 3 and to Manchester on Thursdays and Sundays starting Nov. 6. Both routes will operate on a 137-seat A220-300. 'Raleigh-Durham is a growing region, and this growth has been reflected in Breeze's expanded route offerings from RDU,' said Breeze Airways' Chief Commercial Officer, Lukas Johnson. 'We will now be offering 28 nonstop destinations from the Research Triangle, and we can't wait to launch these two great destinations this fall.' The announcement of the expanded service comes the same week Avelo announced it was cancelling its route to the Bahamas due to a lack of interest. Landguth says the destination has been a challenge in the past, but it comes at a time when the airport is busier than ever before. 'That was the exception to the rule. Most of this is being absorbed by the community. A lot of it is a reflection of what's going on. A lot of growth in the community, new jobs coming here, more people moving here. People want to travel from a leisure standpoint,' Landguth said. Avelo already has a flight to Manchester but Key West is a new destination for the airport. RDU reported a record 15.5 million passengers came through the airport last year and they expect that to continue growing as the airport authority invests in a new runway, more parking spots and restaurants.
