Michael Chiesa has mixed feelings about Court McGee win at UFC Atlanta

Michael Chiesa has mixed feelings about Court McGee win at UFC Atlanta Show Caption Hide Caption UFC on ESPN 69: Michael Chiesa post-fight interview UFC on ESPN 69 winner Michael Chiesa talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight after his decision victory over Court McGee in Atlanta. ATLANTA – Michael Chiesa met the media Saturday after his unanimous decision win over Court McGee at UFC on ESPN 69. Chiesa (19-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC), the Season 15 winner of "The Ultimate Fighter," outworked McGee (22-14 MMA, 11-13 UFC), the Season 11 winner – but wasn't entirely happy with his performance. "Unless you finish Court McGee, he's really not an easy guy to look good against," Chiesa told MMA Junkie at his post-fight news conference. "… It's the fight I expected, so I guess I shouldn't be so critical of myself. I've won three fights in a row. "… Me wanting to go for finishes has cost me at times. We felt like that was Court's best way to beat me, was if I got ahead of myself like I did against (Vicente) Luque. … I had to force myself to be patient, and it paid off." Chiesa said with three straight wins, he normally would have a callout. But with his side hustle as a key member of the UFC's analyst desk during events, he's got a busy summer and early fall. One fighter he said he won't bother trying to fight anymore is Colby Covington, though. Check out Chiesa's post-fight news conference in the video above.

Dick, ‘Move On, It's Over'

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Michael Chiesa returns to action against fellow Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner Court McGee at UFC Atlanta this weekend (Sat., June 14, 2025) inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. While a clash between two TUF winners excites dedicated fans, Chiesa had his sights set on a high-profile bout against three-time Welterweight title challenger Colby Covington, an idea proposed by TUF Season 33 coaches Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen. Advertisement The matchup gained traction among UFC matchmakers and executives, but Covington ultimately seemed to decline. 'I don't know if I can really divulge much, but the powers at be liked the idea, Chael and DC liked it a lot, the higher-ups loved the idea, and I thought it would have been great ending to The Ultimate Fighter but I've kinda just given up on the idea of calling the guy out,' Chiesa said during UFC Atlanta media day. 'I think he's going to go a different direction in his career, and I think being a streamer is what he's pursuing right now. He doesn't have the desire to compete as much as he did before.' 'So, it's just time to move on and let him do what he wants to do, and if he fights again, he fights again,' Chiesa added. 'I'm focused on Court McGee and moving him out of the equation.' It's his loss and the fans' loss because he brings a lot of heat the way he builds his fight, and I have the style to beat him, but move on, it's over. 'He's a nice guy off camera, dick on camera,' Chiesa concluded. Advertisement Covington is deep into his streaming phase and appears to be enjoying it (whatever that entails) while still maintaining his annoying over-the-top WWE-style persona. The longtime top-ranked Welterweight is riding a two-fight losing streak and has only won two fights since 2020. Michael Chiesa vs. Court McGee added to UFC Atlanta

Michael Chiesa vs. Court McGee added to UFC Atlanta A veteran welterweight fight has been added to the UFC's return to Atlanta. Michael Chiesa and Court McGee are set to clash at UFC on ESPN 69, which goes down June 14 at State Farm Arena. Another welterweight bout between former champion Kamaru Usman and surging contender Joaquin Buckley headlines the card. The Chiesa-McGee matchup was announced by the UFC on Tuesday afternoon. Chiesa (17-7 MMA, 12-7 UFC), who's been angling for a fight with Colby Covington, is coming off a submission win over Max Griffin last December. The victory put Chiesa, 37, on a two-fight winning streak to bounce back from a three-fight losing skid, the worst run in his career. McGee (23-13 MMA, 11-12 UFC) is also coming off a submission win. He last competed in October when he submitted fellow veteran Tim Means. It was his first stoppage win in 14 years. Prior to the win, McGee, 40, was on a three-fight losing streak. Below is the updated UFC on ESPN 69 lineup:

UFC analyst Michael Chiesa lists potential UFC 317 headliners – from long shots to realistic

The countdown to the 13th annual UFC International Fight Week is on. With roughly three months until the cornerstone event of the world's biggest MMA promotion goes down, UFC 317 on June 28 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) still is without a main event. UFC always tries its hardest to make sure International Fight Week sets the bar high. Over the past decade, however, a variety of circumstances has led to years where it couldn't put its best foot forward. Will 2025 provide something different? There are a number of potential big-fight options that could fill the main event spot. Top UFC analyst and welterweight veteran Michael Chiesa spoke to MMA Junkie about the numerous potential fights that could headline UFC 317, from the realistic to wild dreams – with the exclusion of Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall for the unified heavyweight championship.
