John Butler Announces Two NZ Dates

Press Release – Sandra Roberts New Studio Album 'PRISM' – Released September 5 on Jarrah Records Chart-topping alternative singer-songwriter John Butler today announces his long-awaited return to New Zealand – his first band shows in nearly a decade – performing two intimate club shows at Meow Nui, Wellington and Powerstation, Auckland in September. John reunites on PRISM tour with his first ever touring drummer, NZ legend Michael Barker. The concerts coincide with the release of his deeply personal new studio album 'PRISM' on 5 September. Butler said, 'I am really looking forward to returning to New Zealand with the band for the Prism album launch. Loving playing with Ian Peres, Michael Boase and reuniting with Michael Barker on the drums. We've been having such a great time bringing these new songs to life on stage and the older songs are sounding BETTER THAN ever. Sorry couldn't help myself!' Significantly, 'PRISM' marks a formal departure from the John Butler Trio moniker. It's an album that is contemplative and explosive, joyous and free, funk-filled, cinematic and unapologetic, with singles 'Trippin On You' and 'So Sorry' already released. 'PRISM' is Season Three of Butler's Four Season roll-out – following Season One's album of meditations ('Running River') and Season Two's fully instrumental album ('Still Searching'). Butler, who featured in the 2024 Symphony at the Auckland Domain, is widely celebrated for his epic guitar instrumentals and pedal board wizardry. The New Zealand dates follow an extensive two-month North American summer tour, with Dispatch, Donavon Frankenreiter, G. Love & Special Sauce and Illiterate Light, including shows in Nashville, Red Rocks, NYC's Rooftop at Pier 17, Ravinia and more.

John Butler announces Australian tour for September 2025

John Butler has been one of the country's preeminent singer-songwriters for decades now. He's pumped out a hell of a lot of music since we first heard him in the late-1990s and the latest batch of tunes, Prism , will be with us in September. Given how electric the guy is on the live stage, we're pleased to announce he will be back out on the road doing what he does best straight after the new album comes out. As is most often the case, Butler will hit the road with a crack band in tow, Ian Peres on bass, Michael Boase on percussion and old friend and colleague Michael Barker back on the drums. "We've been having such a great time bringing these new songs to life on stage and the older songs are sounding BETTER THAN ever," Butler cracks in a statement released this morning. "Sorry couldn't help myself!" The tour will see the crew stop in at no fewer than 15 theatres and halls around the country all through September, with a massive stack of regional dates in among the regular city commitments. Whether you're in Bundaberg, Ballarat, or Brisbane, there's a good chance you'll be able to see Butler and band. That said, these shows are pretty damn small by Butler standards, and while you should relish this chance to see him in action in such intimate spaces, you should also consider grabbing your tickets pretty swiftly. As if this wasn't reason enough to get out there, the amazing Emma Donovan will be there in support. Til My Song Is Done , her solo album of last year, was another incredible collection of tunes from the singer, who has dazzled us as part of The Black Arm Band, Stiff Gins and out the front of Emma Donovan and the Putbacks over the years. Catch John Butler playing the following shows, proudly presented by Double J. Tickets are on sale from midday local time Friday 20 June. Friday 5 September — Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, Wardandi Noongar Land Saturday 6 September — Metropolis Fremantle, Whadjuk Noongar Land, Perth Wednesday 10 September — Her Majesty's Theatre, Kaurna Land, Adelaide Thursday 11 September — Northcote Theatre, Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Land, Melbourne Friday 12 September — Ulumbarra Theatre, Dja Dja Wurrung Land, Bendigo Saturday 13 September — Civic Hall, Dja Dja Wurrung Land, Ballarat Tuesday 16 September — Anita's Theatre, Dharawal Land, Thirroul Wednesday 17 September — Metro Theatre, Gadigal Land, Sydney Thursday 18 September — The Station, Kabi Kabi Land, Sunshine Coast Friday 19 September — Princess Theatre, Jagera Turrbal Land, Brisbane Sunday 21 September — The Empire Theatre, Jagera, Giabal and Jarowair Land, Toowoomba Tuesday 30 September — Moncrieff Theatre, Taribelang Bunda, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, and Bailai Land.
