U.S. sanctions CJNG leaders as global terrorists

NEW YORK, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The United States is sanctioning five Mexico-based leaders of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) as specially designated global terrorists. In a statement posted Wednesday on the website of U.S. State Department, its spokesperson Tammy Bruce holds the cartel responsible for trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and other illicit drugs into the United States. Targets of the sanction include CJNG leader Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, aka "El Mencho," as well as Audias Flores Silva who controls clandestine laboratories used to produce methamphetamine and other illegal drugs trafficked to the United States. The department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, through its Narcotics Rewards Program, is offering a reward of up to 15 million U.S. dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Oseguera and a reward of up to 5 million dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Flores. U.S. President Donald Trump on Jan. 20 signed an order to designate CJNG as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). In the United States, fentanyl is a leading cause of death among people aged 18 to 49, as well as associated violence.

Sanctioning The Los Chapitos Faction Of The Sinaloa Cartel And Its Mazatlan Network

Tammy Bruce, Department Spokesperson June 9, 2025 The United States is committed to disrupting the illicit manufacture and trafficking of fentanyl, a leading cause of death of people aged 18 to 49 in the United States, as well as associated violence. Today, the United States is sanctioning Los Chapitos, a powerful faction of the Mexico-based Sinaloa cartel, along with its two fugitive leaders, Archivaldo Iván Guzmán Salazar and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, who are sons of the incarcerated Sinaloa Cartel leader known as 'El Chapo.' Los Chapitos is at the forefront of trafficking fentanyl into the United States. Both Iván and Alfredo are designated as targets under the Narcotics Rewards Program with reward offers up to $10 million each for information leading to their arrests and/or convictions. The United States is also designating a regional network of Los Chapitos associates and businesses based in Mazatlan, Mexico. This network engages in drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, and money laundering. Today's action follows the recent designation of the Sinaloa Cartel as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). We will continue to protect our nation by keeping illicit drugs off our streets and disrupting the revenue streams funding Mexico-based cartels' violent and criminal activity. Today's action further demonstrates the Trump Administration's unwavering commitment to eliminating cartels and ensuring the safety of the American people. The United States took today's sanctions actions pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 14059 and 13224, as amended.

Carrier411 CEO cancels Mexico-based account over LA protests

Vetting platform Carrier411 is cancelling the account of a Mexico-based client in response to ongoing unrest in Los Angeles, according to CEO Darren Brewer. Carrier411 monitors trucking companies for quality assurance and rates them on a variety of safety and performance benchmarks. Brewer said he decided to cancel the account of a Mexico-based third-party staffing agency that uses the Carrier411 platform after watching the protests that have erupted in Los Angeles in the wake of raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. 'I was following what was going on with the riots in Los Angeles,' Brewer said on FreightWaves' What the Truck!?! podcast on Friday. 'I see all these people standing above cars, waving Mexican flags, and the devastation, the destruction of Los Angeles. I said, 'something's not right.''More than 3,000 freight brokers and shippers use the Carrier411 platform, the company said on its website. 'There is a major staffing service located in Mexico that supports … a fair amount of our … big broker clients,' Brewer said. 'We're changing our policy when it comes to allowing access from Mexico. They were the only third-party staffing service that we allowed, because I know the guy who started it and runs it, he's a solid guy, and they got good people. I let him know first thing the next morning and explained to him why.' Protests in Los Angeles began around June 6 in response to migrant raids by ICE. Some outlets such as Fox News have described the protests as 'riots,' while The Associated Press said the unrest in Los Angeles has 'mainly been peaceful.''More than 100 people have been arrested over the past several days of protests,' The Associated Press reported. 'The vast majority of arrests were for failing to disperse, while a few others were for assault with a deadly weapon, looting, vandalism and attempted murder for tossing a Molotov cocktail.' In addition to Los Angeles, protests against the ICE raids have spread to other cities across the country. As of Wednesday, ICE has deported more than 207,000 people since President Donald Trump began his second term on Jan. 20, according to Time Magazine. Brewer said they have not canceled any broker's accounts on the Carrier411 platform. 'We're still currently allowing access for some of our broker customers who have actual employees in Mexico,' Brewer said. 'And we're still continuing to allow access for their employees in Mexico, but no more third-party staffing service.' Legion of Christ priest arrested in Mexico City airport on rape charge for alleged abuse of a minor

MEXICO CITY -- Authorities arrested a Roman Catholic priest at the capital's international airport on charges of raping of a minor over a period of years, officials said Thursday. The Mexico state prosecutor's office said that Rev. Antonio Cabrera, a member of the Legion of Christ religious order, was arrested Wednesday night on a court order for rape. Authorities cited incidents in 2004, 2007 and 2011, but the investigation only began in December 2024, after the alleged attacks were reported. The abuse allegedly occurred in Naucalpan, a Mexico City suburb. The prosecutor's office did not say why Cabrera was at the airport. The Legion of Christ religious order has been involved in sexual abuse scandals before, including those of its late founder, the Rev. Marcial Maciel, who was later determined to be a serial pedophile. The Vatican in 2010 took over the Mexico-based Legion and imposed a process of reform after an investigation showed that Maciel had sexually abused seminarians and fathered at least three children with two women. The Legion of Christ confirmed the arrest of one of its priests without naming him in statement Thursday. The order said it had not received information from authorities about the case, but were willing to cooperate with the investigation. Cabrera was jailed pending an initial hearing.
