Meuser reacts to President Trump's use of National Guard in Los Angeles
(WHTM)– A Republican Midstate Congressman pushed back against critics of President Donald Trump's decision to use National Guard Troops in Los Angeles. Dan Meuser (PA-9) commented on the use of National Guard troops in Los Angeles, pushing back against comments that they are responsible for the violence and unrest in the city. 'The only reason the president decided to do that was because cars were being blown up, federal buildings were being attacked, ICE Agents were under siege,' Meuser said. 'You know the first cars were burning 48 hours before the National Guard went in. Blaming anything on the National Guard is false.' Meuser was also asked about his thoughts on President Trump's suggestion that California Governor Gavin Newsom should be arrested. He said he did not hear that. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Trump says he would back GOP Rep. Meuser for Pennsylvania governor bid
President Trump on Friday offered his support for Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.) if the congressman opts to run for governor in Pennsylvania, which Meuser has said he is considering. Trump quipped during a rally in Pittsburgh that he heard a 'rumor' that Meuser was weighing a gubernatorial bid, which would pit him against Gov. Josh Shapiro (D). 'If that's your decision you've got my support,' Trump said. 'He's been a great congressman,' Trump added. 'And if you run, you have my support. And you'll win. The people are going to get it real fast.' Mueser told The Hill in January he was seriously considering challening Shapiro in the 2026 election. 'I'm considering it,' Meuser told The Hill. 'I mean if I get in it's because I think I can win and that means beating the incumbent, which is Josh Shapiro. So it's no easy task.' Meuser has represented Pennsylvania's 9th Congressional District since 2019. He previously served as the state's secretary of revenue from 2011-15. Shapiro defeated his Republican opponent, state Sen. Doug Mastriano, in 2022 with 56 percent of the vote. While Mastrano was considered a weak general election candidate, Shapiro has continued to maintain his popularity within the state while building a national profile. PA Congressman spoke to Schuylkill County business leaders about tariffs
BARNESVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's top of mind for many Americans: Tariffs. On Tuesday, Congressman Dan Meuser spoke to business leaders in Schuylkill County about President Trump's tariff policies. As the trade landscape under the Trump administration continues to change, some tariff plans have been paused while others remain in place. Congressman Meuser recognized that while the tariffs have impacted the markets and area industries, he believes that in the end, President Trump's plans will benefit the US. 'The goals with the tariff are to strengthen the American economy but not forsaking our allies in other countries,' Congressman Meuser told 28/22 News. At a forum held by the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce, Congressman Meuser spoke to a crowd of business leaders about President Trump's tariff policies as negotiations continue with several United States allies. 'We're now working through trade agreements. And as you've seen, the president has postponed some of the largest tariffs that were initially set to go into effect,' Congressman Meuser explained. Anti-gang efforts in NEPA target youth A 25% tariff imposed by Canada on the US has already hit home at Hydro Extrusions in Schuylkill County, the largest aluminum extrusion plant in the western hemisphere, producing for several markets, including transportation and distribution. '85% of our aluminum is imported from Canada, you know, so we've been subjected to the tariffs basically since earlier this year,' Hydro Extrusions Vice President and General Manager Mike Hammer said. Hammer says that while the company supports the administration's agenda to grow manufacturing, it doesn't align with the strategy. 'So it has driven up our prices and our costs and hurt us in terms of losing business both domestically as well as exports,' Hammer added. As trade talks continue, Congressman Meuser says he remains firm in President Trump's plans. 'The results should be very beneficial and I think will be for the United States,' Congressman Meuser said.
