Hideo Kojima got upset because people thought Death Stranding 2 was 'too good'
A musician in Death Stranding 2 has given some insight into creator Hideo Kojima's process, as an animated spin-off is announced. The original Death Stranding is perhaps one of the most polarising games of recent memory, especially for those familiar with Hideo Kojima's most famous work, Metal Gear Solid. The sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, launches later this month and appears to be taking things in a more action-orientated route, based on the trailers, with a stronger emphasis on combat over the original's methodically paced hikes to deliver parcels. While we'll have to wait until June 26 to see if this is actually the case, it seems Death Stranding 2 will at least have some divisive elements – because Kojima insists on it. This was revealed by French musician Yoann Lemoine, aka Woodkid, who has composed the game's soundtrack. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he explained how Kojima wanted to alter certain aspects of the game after getting too much positive feedback during playtests. 'There's a key moment where we had a discussion, probably halfway [through] when we were doing the game, where he came to me and he said, 'We have a problem.' Woodkid said. 'Then he said, 'I'm going to be very honest, we have been testing the game with players and the results are too good. They like it too much. That means something is wrong; we have to change something.' And he changed stuff in the script and the way some crucial stuff [happens] in the game because he thought his work was not polarising and not triggering enough emotions.' 'And he said, 'If everyone likes it, it means it's mainstream. It means it's conventional. It means it's already pre-digested for people to like it. And I don't want that. I want people to end up liking things they didn't like when they first encountered it, because that's where you really end up loving something.' And that was really a lesson for me; not doing stuff to please people, but to make them shift a little bit and move them.' Despite this stance, Woodkid describes Kojima as someone who 'changes his mind intelligently' when others present ideas to him. 'It doesn't mean that he doesn't listen, which is why I think he's a genius,' he added.'[He's] shaping his world with the ideas of his teams. It's not just him bossing around everything. I've been feeding him; somehow, at some point shapeshifting and edit or something. But's always been a dialogue. More Trending 'It's never been, 'I know exactly what I'm doing and no one else can interfere in the process.' So, he's always been the exact opposite of this – having control by letting people in. People sometimes have the fake impression that Hideo is very egotistical, [but] he's someone that changes his mind very intelligently based on what people bring him.' Whether you like his games or not, his stubborn stand against convention is perhaps what makes Kojima's works so recognisably his – even when it involves pee grenades and looking after babies stuck in pods. Along with the upcoming sequel, Kojima is helping to develop a live action feature film based on Death Stranding. A new animated film is also in the works, written by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised By Wolves). According to Deadline, the animated film will be set in the world of Death Stranding, but will not adapt the original game's events – in a similar vein to recent animated spin-offs like Predator: Killer Of Killers. ‘Death Stranding' Anime Film Will Feature an Original Story Within the Game's Universe
Summary Kojima Productionshas officially confirmed thatDeath Strandingis getting an anime adaptation, with acclaimed screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski — best known for HBO'sRaised by Wolves— attached to write the project. The announcement marks a significant expansion ofHideo Kojima's genre-defying universe, which has already spawned alive-action filmin development withA24. Guzikowski's involvement signals a thoughtful, emotionally layered approach to the adaptation, aligning with the game's meditative themes of isolation, connection and existential dread. Currently in development with animation studioLine Mileage, the film will tell an original story set within theDeath Strandinguniverse, rather than retelling the game's main narrative. News of this adaptation was first teased by Kojima himself during an interview withVogue Japanlast month. In that conversation, the visionary game creator emphasized his enduring desire to explore storytelling beyond traditional interactive formats. While details about the animation studio and release timeline remain under wraps, Kojima's track record of cinematic ambition, evident in his work on Metal Gear Solid and the originalDeath Stranding. At the time of writing, no official release window has been announced. However, withDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachslated for release on June 26, 2025, anticipation continues to build for the next evolution of Kojima's immersive, cross-media storytelling.

If Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid ever crossover, Kojima knows who should be a porter, even though they "won't be able to carry things so much"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A crossover between Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid is pretty unlikely. Hideo Kojima and Konami split on seemingly acrimonious terms, and we've only seen remakes and re-releases from the latter series for years now. Still, should it happen, Kojima has a notion about who'd manage the tricky job of being a porter the best. When asked by IGN during a Death Stranding 2 event who from the Metal Gear canon could make the jump over to delivering across the KNOTS, he named Dr. Hal 'Otacon' Emmerich, tech genius and Solid Snake's trusted friend. "Maybe Otacon!" Kojima laughs. "But he won't be able to carry things so much." Sadly, he's probably right. Physical strength and endurance are necessary qualities for any good delivery person in the wasteland of Death Stranding, and Otacon doesn't appear to have much of either. But, he's excellent and solving problems and knows a thing or two about improvising under pressure. Stuck somewhere with BTs hanging around, Otacon would find a way to somehow escape without taking too much damage. Same for Demens, who'd probably be left perplexed by some gadget or other by the military scientist. Otacon is the kind of guy you want around in a pinch, even if he's not the person you'd like assigned to your delivery. Unlike Sam Porter Bridges, Hal's backpack isn't getting too full. But maybe he's the sensible one in that regard, given how much of Death Stranding you spend picking up and re-Tetris-ing your own overfull pack of goods. This is all extremely hypothetical, and the Death Stranding games aren't in need of the boost. The second, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, arrives on June 26, taking place predominantly in Mexico and Australia instead of the US. Aside from having whole other countries and continents to wander, Sam gets more hands on this time, helping communities he encounters in different ways. As it's a Kojima Productions game, most narrative elements are protected through esoteric teases. There's a talking ventriloquist's dummy, though! Never change, Kojima. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater comes out on August 28, 2025. Hideo Kojima already has a Death Stranding 3 pitch that could relate to a DS2 plot device, but "I am not going to make it myself"

Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is passing ideas onto his staff for after he dies, but he doesn't want them to copy him, because they "will go out of business": "I am not going to pass the baton to anyone"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Mere weeks away from Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hideo Kojima has spoken about his legacy. Now 61, he's been making video games for 40 years, and though he expects Kojima Productions to live on without him, he doesn't want the team to approach things the same after he's retired. The topic came up during a wide-ranging interview with GQ, where Kojima addressed being in the twilight of his career. The Metal Gear Solid creator still has plenty of ideas, but when someone else is in charge, he'd rather they serve as inspiration than become an MO. "I am not going to pass the baton to anyone. I will rather crush the baton," he laughs. "I don't need to give 'Hideo Kojima' to anyone. If I pass the baton to my staff and tell them to make things the same way I do, the company will not succeed and will go out of business." He elaborates by explaining that creators often contact him to explain how his work impacted their lives. He wants to inspire his team members in the same way, igniting their passion and creative flow. "They say, 'I'm a creator because of your games.' But they didn't receive the baton of Hideo Kojima," he states. "They received my small fire. They're not copying me. They're not trying to be me. They have this fire, and they light up their own. And they'll probably give that to someone else." It sounds like whatever unfinished work he leaves at his company will be just another resource, something to tap into, but not an outright guideline. His position is admirable and remarkably forward-thinking. Kojima Productions has finished two games thus far, both Death Stranding installments. Two more are in the pipeline: OD, a horror project for Xbox, and Physint, another Sony production. Besides those, Kojima intends to direct a movie, a longtime aspiration of his. Whatever you think of his work, anything with his name tends to stand on its own and get people talking, and his comments suggest he wants his company always to operate that way. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach gets new details from PlayStation, teasing fans with info on its combat, story, and "large open-world environments"

Konami is remaking the original Silent Hill
Get ready for more Silent Hill. As part of its Press Start online presentation on Thursday, Konami announced that it's remaking the original Silent Hill in partnership with Bloober Team, the studio that developed last year's well-received Silent Hill 2 remake. Konami didn't share any more details beyond that the game is in development; the presentation didn't include any footage, screenshots, or even an estimated release date. The presentation also included a segment about Silent Hill F, the new entry in the series that's launching on September 25th. Silent Hill F is the first title in the series set in Japan, and during the segment, the game's developers talked about how they designed the game and some of their inspirations. It all looks pretty frightening. Konami kicked off the show with a segment on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Part of the segment included footage of the Ape Escape -themed 'Snake vs. Monkey' mode, available on PS5 and Steam, the Bomberman -themed 'Snake vs. Bomberman' mode that you can play on Xbox Series X / S, and a new 'Fox Hunt' online multiplayer mode. Delta is set to release on August 28th.
