More info A North Wales care home celebrating its 35th anniversary has been likened to a 'mini United Nations' due to its diverse staff. The staff at Cartref Bryn yr Eglwys in Pentrefoelas, in Conwy, includes 12 different nationalities with people from India, Nepal, Romania, Zimbabwe, Poland, and the Philippines and all of them are learning Welsh. The home was established in 1990 by registered nurse manager Meryl Welsby. Over the years she has gradually extended it to offer 30 beds for people aged from 18 upwards in need of end-of-life, nursing and respite care. According to mum-of-two Meryl, finding local people to fill the care roles had been a major challenge for decades, with many unwilling to work the unsocial hours – so she had been forced to look farther afield.. 'We're a bit like a mini United Nations here however the overseas staff have fitted in very well. They are learning Welsh using the 'say something in Welsh app and most of them can have a conversation in Welsh. They are also understanding our unique culture here in Wales Meryl added: 'Having excellent staff with the right attitude is vital and we are very lucky in that respect. You can improve knowledge and skills, but having the right attitude is something you can't teach. 'We've always had a very positive team here, quite a unique team really – and this is why we are still here 35 years later when many care homes have been forced to close.' The big birthday was celebrated with a party, buffet and musical entertainment and Meryl used the celebration as an opportunity to thank her 'incredible team'. One of the special guests at the party was Rob Davies from Llanrwst, whose late aunt Jess Salisbury Roberts was the care home's first resident. He said: 'My aunt was from Corwen and she had lost her sight, so she relied entirely on people coming to talk to her. We saw her quite regularly here. (Image: Mandy Jones) 'She was very well looked after and she was always very complimentary of the care she received at the home. She had a very happy time here.' Meryl recalled it was tough going when she first launched the business with a small workforce. She said: ''When we first opened, we had just 10 residents, and now we have 30. I lived in a very old caravan at the back so I covered nights mostly and it was all hands on deck. 'It was a struggle really and I remember somebody saying to me 'oh, you won't be still here in six months time'. And I think that just makes you more determined.' Meryl thanked everyone who attended the party, especially former members of staff and relatives of former residents who had made the trip to Pentrefoelas. Also among those celebrating was clinical nurse lead Gabi Sabadus who has worked at the home for 21 years and is originally from Romania, and another special guest was former housekeeper Anne-Marie Burkhill. Siwan Davies, from Llangollen, whose father John Morris Edwards has been a resident at the home for 10 years and had nothing but praise for the home. Her late mother Gwennan had also been a resident at the home. Siwan said: 'Initially there was no room for them both, but thanks to Meryl, she made sure they were in a room together. 'And when mum passed away, Meryl made sure dad was not in that room on his own. I think the home is fantastic.' Resident Dorothy Archer attended the party with her son David Archer. Dorothy said she had been a resident for two-and-a-half years. The pensioner, who used to live in nearby Cwm Penmachno, said: 'I used to call in here occasionally in the days when I was more active when I had a neighbour or a friend here. 'I remember thinking at the time 'it looks good here' and I should think about coming when the time comes – and that's exactly what happened.' The Devil Wears Prada sequel should be in production by this time next month, reveals alum Emily Blunt!
The 2010s rom-com glow is shining bright on Emily Blunt's cheeks as she gears up to step right back into the tall, tall shoes of her iconic namesake on-screen persona for the official Devil Wears Prada sequel. As per some exclusive Entertainment Tonight intel, the already icon-status second installment is set to go into production in July. And that's in less than a month! Appropriately, Emily is teeming with excitement and feeling equal parts nostalgic. In a byte to ET, when asked if she can believe a sequel is actually underway, 2 decades later, she gasped, "No", adding, "20 years ago, in a blink, it's gone by". Allegedly pressed for details herself, Emily didn't have much to spill about where her in-house namesake would be, 2 decades down the line: "It's so weird, I haven't even read a script. I don't know, I'm just like, where is she? I don't know", she quipped. One thing Emily did reflect on but, was her on-screen antagonistic vibe with Meryl: "God why are Meryl and I always so mean to each other in every movie we do? We always have like beef with each other. I don't know what it hope we remedy it...". A post shared by Entertainment Tonight (@entertainmenttonight) Yes girl, give us NOTHING! But the actor sure did feel bad about not spilling any of the deets as she added, "I'm not sure. Can you tell I'm skirting the issue? (laughs)". Besides us, another little lot that's excited to live out the sequel on the big screen, are her daughters, Hazel, 11, and Violet, 9. She said, "For the fashion! They're like, Mary Schmopins. Devil Wears Prada, they're all about it!". The film is slated for a release on May 1 of next year, making it the Friday right before the first Monday of May — the Met Monday! And needless to say, one and all are gearing up for a fashion-fueled kickstart to the Summer month. "Everybody wants this!" and that's a fact.

Meryl Streep and Selena Gomez recreating some Devil Wears Prada magic is the nostalgia kick you NEED!
First things first — Meryl Streep is returning for season 5 of Only Murders in the Building. What's more, the 'announcement' per se, was made via an unmissable Devil Wears Prada reference! In a video shared yesterday by Hulu and the official page of the drama series, the Oscar-winning actor made an appearance in a video alongside Selena Gomez to celebrate her comeback to the show. In the delightfully fun clip, the duo reenacted an iconic moment from The Devil Wears Prada (2006), in which Meryl played the career-defining (at least as per pop culture) Miranda Priestly. For reference, the scene is that of Miranda critiquing Andy Sachs —played by Anne Hathaway —for lacking any and all perceptible sense of style. The scene shows Andy beginning to reply but Miranda , very characteristically, cutting her off with a sharp, stinging remark about how she wasn't really asking a question, but instead making a statement. In Meryl and Selena's video, the latter curtly, in classic Miranda-style, says, "So you're returning for season 5". Meryl having switched places to spiritually play Andy, mimics Anne's response to a T by saying, "Well, I think that depends on—". She of course is cut off quite promptly by Selena who very coldly says, "No, no, that wasn't a question". A post shared by Only Murders in the Building (@onlymurdershulu) Want that last bit of punch? The caption to the post read, "Gird your loins, Meryl is returning for Season 5! That's all". Now tell us you didn't read that out in Nigel's nifty voice. Now while Only Murders in the Building and The Devil Wears Prada have no connection besides Meryl, it is worth mentioning here that the movie has been all over the news owing to an official sequel being in the works. The Devil Wears Prada 2, which already has Meryl and Emily Blunt set to return, is eyeing a May 1 release next year. Incidentally, this will be the first Friday of May 2026, just before the first Monday of May that year, which we all know, is Met Gala day. So, 'gird your loins' indeed!

Meryl Streep to Return for ‘Only Murders in the Building' Season 5
Meryl Streep is set to return for Season 5 of 'Only Murders in the Building,' reprising her role as Loretta Durkin. The news was revealed in an X post from the Hulu comedy series' official account with the caption: 'Gird your loins, Meryl is returning for Season 5! That's all.' The post included a video in which star Selena Gomez asks Streep: 'So you're coming back for Season 5?' Streep replies: 'Well, I think that depends on…,' before being interrupted by Gomez who says 'No, no, no, that wasn't a question.' Gird your loins, Meryl is returning for Season 5! That's all. #OMITB — Only Murders in the Building (@OnlyMurdersHulu) May 29, 2025 The Season 4 finale saw Loretta and Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) tie the knot after the trio successfully took down Sazz Pataki's (Jane Lynch) killer. But a new TV role had Durkin headed to New Zealand at the end of the season, prompting a question as to whether Streep would return for Season 5's mystery. 'I find it very hard to imagine Loretta not being a part of this television show now, and I've told Meryl this and I think she feels similarly. It's all in giving something worth enough,' showrunner John Hoffman previously told TheWrap back in October when asked about Streep's potential return. 'I wondered if a lot of people were worried that we were going to do something terrible to Loretta at the end of this season, but I couldn't imagine doing that. Truthfully, I have nothing but huge wishes that we get to do more with her without question. It's all about getting the right story for her and getting her something worthy.' In addition to Gomez, Short, Streep and Steve Martin, Season 5 will feature a new lineup of celebrity guest stars including Tea Leoni, who returns as Sofia Caccimelio following an appearance at the end of Season 4, as well as newcomers Logan Lerman, Renee Zellweger, Christophe Waltz, Keegan Michael Key and Beanie Feldstein. Other recurring cast members since Season 1 include Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard, Jackie Hoffman as Uma and Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Donna Williams. A premiere date for the Hulu comedy series' fifth season, which will see the trio track down the killer of Arconia doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca), has not yet been announced. 'Only Murders in the Building,' which comes from 20th Television, is created by Martin and Hoffman. Martin, Gomez, Short, Hoffman, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal serve as executive producers. The first four seasons of 'Only Murders in the Building' are available to stream now on Hulu. The post Meryl Streep to Return for 'Only Murders in the Building' Season 5 appeared first on TheWrap.
