The crash, involving a Mercedes A-class car and a MAN box van, happened on the A737 near Howwood at around 3.10am on Monday September 23 last year. Police said a 60-year-old man has been charged in connection with the crash. The 60-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash on the A737 near Howwood in September which claimed the life of 59-year-old Lesley McTear. Tragically Mrs McTear was pronounced dead at the scene. Lesley's devastated loved ones paid tribute to their beloved relative and praised her caring nature. A family spokesperson said: 'Lesley was a loving wife, mother, grandma and daughter-in-law. "As a family, we are deeply saddened by the events that have caused such a void in our family. 'Lesley was the glue that kept us all together and anyone who was lucky enough to know Lesley was showered by her unconditional love.' A number of calls around that time also reported six horses running loose on the A737. A 52-year-old woman has been charged in connection with this alleged incident. Reports will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Meanwhile a lorry driver who knocked a much-loved mum off her bike killing her in a horror road smash has been spared jail. James Peat, 62, hit Una Brandreth, 56, after he turned his HGV into her without indicating at a junction. Ms Brandreth was dragged under the wheels before he drove on unaware of the rush hour carnage behind him. Peat appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court and admitted causing death by dangerous driving. Sheriff Frances McCartney imposed a community payback order of 200 hours of unpaid work. Peat was banned from driving for two years and also tagged for two months.

A 60-year-old man has been charged after a woman and four horses died following a crash between a Mercedes and box van in Renfrewshire. Emergency services were called to the scene on the A737 near Howwood at around 3.10am on September 23. Police received reports of a collision involving a Mercedes A-class car and a MAN box van. It was also reported that six horses were running loose on the road around the time of the crash. The 59-year-old female passenger of the Mercedes vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Four horses were also killed after being struck by vehicles and another two were taken to safety. The driver of the van, a 59-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for assessment. A 60-year-old man has been charged in connection with the crash, while a 52-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the horses running loose on the A737.
