Matty J and Laura have revealed their most controversial reno choice yet
Reality stars Matthew Johnson and Laura Byrne have revealed their latest renovation updates, including their most controversial choice yet. The Bachelor favourites have been renovating a retro seaside property on the South Coast of New South Wales since they purchased it at auction in June 2024 for $2.19 million. The oceanfront house, known as ' Chante Mer house ' (sing the sea), has an Instagram account that charts updates with over 129,000 followers. Since choosing to share their progress, fans of the couple have been all too willing to share their opinions on the design decisions - and this latest reveal has been no different. Last month, Laura shared a post to the account with the caption, "Here is the great fireplace reveal for everyone who has been following along. The most controversial of all our reno choices and the heart of our little home." Loading Instagram Post In the video, Laura explains that she chose the controversial "spew tiles" because they wanted a "bold and beautiful" choice for the heart of their home. The Toni May jewellery designer said she couldn't "be more happy with how it's all turned out," and then urged followers to embrace fun when making design decisions. "Here's your reminder that it's ok to do something really fun with your interiors." Comments on the post were overwhelming positive with followers saying, "It's perfect", "Absolutely love it" and "Stunning". Another big reveal from the couple was the before and after of the downstairs bedroom. In the video, Matty J shares that he and Laura originally wanted a colour for the walls - alternating between yellow, green and salmon - but ultimately went for a neutral. "Thank god we came to our senses and went with a warm white," he said in the post. They choose a rattan bed frame, paired with toffee and green sheets, marble side tables, blue chair and a white floor rug. Followers were very complimentary about the view and styling of the room saying, "Love it", "Looks fabulous", and "The view is too good." Loading Instagram Post The couple also shared images of the foyer with polka dot sconce and marble console with the caption, "Making an entrance, our little foyer area full of personality." This was a far cry from the opinions shared when the couple revealed their main bathroom. Originally pink, the room was gutted and transformed to include a double shower, beige and bone subway stripe tiles and antique brass fittings. While some enthused about the updates, "MY JAW DROPPED! I love it" and "It's amazing", others were far from keen "I love you guys but I hate this. Sorry just hurts my eyes" and "Ekkk sorry but way too much going on. Seems all over the place and doesn't match". It seems followers are more on board with the more recent design decisions. But these weren't the only exciting reveals to come from the couple recently. In April, the parents-of-two shared that they were expecting a third child - another little girl to join the family.

Man, parents arrested in Vadodara after transgender live-in partner alleges cheating, domestic violence
A 20-year-old man and his parents were on Monday arrested after his transgender partner, who underwent a sex change operation after being in a live-in relationship for four years, filed a complaint, police said. The arrest, made by officers of Raopura police station in Vadodara city, was based on a complaint, which also accused the man's parents of threatening his transgender partner. The FIR lodged by Cutie Meghani, 25, stated that accused Hardik Mer 'promised to marry' if Meghani underwent a gender-affirming surgery. Meghani told the police that after the surgery, while she was bearing 'the burden of loans' taken for the reassignment surgeries, the accused abandoned her, also accusing him of cheating. Police Sub-inspector J A Rahevar told this newspaper that the accused and the complainant had met on social media and entered into a relationship while working for an LGBTQ NGO, Lakshya Trust. Since the accused was a minor at the time, they started a live-in relationship only after Mer attained the age of 18. Rahevar said, 'The complainant has stated that when she met the accused, he was a minor and therefore, they waited until he turned 18 before entering into an agreement for a live-in relationship. They had been living together since 2023 and the accused allegedly promised to marry the her if she underwent the reassignment surgery. While some of the process of the sex reassignment had been initiated earlier, she underwent a major surgery in 2024.' In her complaint, Meghani has also alleged domestic violence and stated that Mer 'physically assaulted and repeatedly forced physical relationship upon her'. Meghani also claimed that Mer's parents abused her and threatened her with dire consequences if she visited their native village in Rajkot's Jetpur taluka. Rahevar said, 'We arrested Mer, along with his parents, and granted bail as per the provisions of law. We will call them for questioning tomorrow (Tuesday).' The accused have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 316(2) (Criminal breach of trust), 318(2) (cheating), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(3) (Criminal intimidation), 54 (abettor present when offence is committed) and Section 18(d) of The Transgender Person (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, which addresses offences against transgenders that harms, injures or endangers the life, safety, health or well-being — physical and mental.

Gold hits new record high of Rs 96,805, may touch Rs 1 lakh mark soon
New Delhi: Gold prices in India touched a new record high of Rs 96,805 per 10 grams on Monday on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) as rising fears over a global trade war and weakness in the US dollar pushed investors towards the yellow metal. Around 1:30 pm, the 'MCX Gold June 5' contract was trading 1.65 per cent higher at Rs 96,830 per 10 grams. Spot gold prices in India also surged. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the fine gold (999 purity) was priced at Rs 9,659 per gram, while 22-carat gold stood at Rs 9,427. The rates for 20-carat and 18-carat were Rs 8,596 and Rs 7,824 per gram, respectively. The sharp rally in domestic prices mirrored international trends, where spot gold also hit a new all-time high of $3,384 per ounce. Investors across the world are seeking safe-haven assets due to the growing tensions between the United States and China. Another factor supporting gold prices is the weakening of the US dollar. The dollar index hit a three-year low, making gold more attractive for investors holding other currencies. Since gold is priced in dollars, a weaker dollar makes it cheaper for buyers in other countries -- boosting its demand. In the previous trading session, MCX gold had slipped 0.44 per cent to Rs 95,239 per 10 grams due to profit booking. However, the ongoing concerns over a possible prolonged trade war triggered fresh buying at lower levels. 'Gold prices continued their positive momentum and have risen briefly above $3,400 per ounce. Uncertainty around trade tariffs, a weaker US dollar, and rising US bond yields are keeping bullion prices strong,' said Pranav Mer of JM Financial Services Limited. He added that buying interest from exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and upcoming festive demand in India are also lending support to gold prices. 'Traders will also keep an eye on the ongoing trade talks between the US and its major partners like Japan, the Eurozone, and China, which could give more clarity to the market direction,' Mer added. On the technical front, gold prices now hold support at Rs 95,550 and then at Rs 94,200, while the next resistance levels are seen at Rs 97,580 and Rs 98,200, Mer mentioned.
