Sally Foran: I tried Medik8's €140 'age-defying' retinal facial — here's what I thought
Medik8's new crystal retinal age-defying facial combines two of my favourite elements in skin care — retinal and facial massage. Designed in collaboration with master facialist Michaella Bolder, it merges the brand's signature retinal technology with an expert sculpting massage to tackle signs of ageing, all while remaining kind to skin. I travelled to The Spa at Johnston Estate, Co Meath for an exclusive trial of the new treatment. Here's what I thought. Who are Medik8? Medik8 are the UK's number one dermatological brand, best known for their iconic 'Crystal Retinal' range. Retinal, a form of vitamin A, works up to 11 times faster than standard retinol. It's the strongest retinoid available without prescription and is just one conversion away for the active retinoic acid (most retinols are a couple of conversaions away from retinoic acid meaning they can cause less irritation, but can also be less effective). Medik8's Crystal Retinal range has options for beginners through to seasoned retinol/retinal pros Available in six strengths, from beginners to long-time retinal users, there's an option for everyone in the range. With antibacterial properties, it is also ideal for acne-prone skin. Many experts now recommend using retinal instead of retinol, just make sure you start 'low and slow', gradually increasing strengths as your skin adjusts. I chose Medik8 when I started my retinal journey and after experiencing impressive results, it's doubtful I'll ever switch to a prescription-strength retinoid. What is the 'age defying facial'? Daniel Isaac, Medik8's chief product officer and founding partner, said the new crystal retinal age defying facial "marks a new era" for the brand. "For the first time we're bringing our award-winning retinal technology into the clinic, offering a fully customisable results-driven treatment, that combines the age-defying power of retinal and Vitamin C in one treatment" It's also notable that Michaella Boulder, a leading master facialist with over 17 years of experience, has had a hand in its design. A favourite amongst celebrities and global skincare brands, I first discovered Michaella at a Lancome event in London, and after witnessing her signature, sculpting massage techniques in action, I immediately became a fan. Facial massage has many benefits; it improves blood flow, stimulates collagen, reduces inflammation, eases tension and promotes relaxation. Boulder says she designed the bespoke massage to work "in perfect harmony with Medik8's powerful anti-ageing crystal retinal formula and enhance its results'. Combining vitamins A and C with sculpting techniques helps to optimise retinal absorption, lift facial contours, support lymphatic drainage and deliver both instant and long-term results. This unique combination promises to offer a transformative result, leaving skin smoother, firmer and clearer. My experience Sally Foran, before her facial As the facial is customisable, my treatment began with a skin analysis. After a thorough cleanse, a light lactic acid peel was applied. Next, drops of crystal retinal were mixed with 10% pure vitamin C, in a hydrating mask. These drops are fast-releasing, for a quicker hit, unlike at home retinal, which is slower releasing. The mask was massaged into my face and neck, with Boulder's sculpting techniques, enabling the ingredients to penetrate deeper into my skin, for the ultimate absorption of retinal. I left with sculpted, glowing, nourished and smoother skin, which lasted for days. I left with a customised recommended retinal routine to foll at home to futher enhance and accelerate results. Sally Foran, after her facial Recommended for anyone who wants to soften fine lines and wrinkles, enhance radiance, plump, firm, depuff or sculpt skin, it is the ideal pre-event facial. I'm already planning my next visit! The details Location: The Spa at The Johnstown Estate, Co Meath. Cost: €140 for 60 minutes, with 90 minutes of rest and relaxation included in the spa's thermal facilities Sally Foran received a complimentary treatment in exchange for a fair and honest review

Fewer wrinkles in one WEEK: The potent serum that works 11 times faster than standard retinol (and it's gentle, too)
You're constantly fine-tuning your beauty routine. If one of your primary goals is to reduce visible lines and wrinkles, you may have your work cut out for you. But if you're tired of that song and dance, it's time to turn your attention to Medik8. The brand's Crystal Retinal Age Defying Night Serum could well be considered the end-all, be-all of anti-aging treatments — because it's available in multiple progressive strengths to help your skin become more tolerant over time. Medik8 Crystal Retinal Age Defying Night Serum Take control of aging skin once and for all with the serum clinically proven to reveal skin that both looks and feels younger in just a week. It's available in six progressive strengths, making it easy for anyone — even those with sensitive skin — to take advantage of retinal's efficacy. Used regularly, it virtually erases fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots while firming skin and leaving your complexion firm and glowing. $85 Shop Its key ingredient is retinal, a derivative of vitamin A that works 11 times faster than standard retinol to visibly reduce those signs of aging you've tried so desperately to erase. Fine lines? Deep-set creases? They're no match for this system. It's really quite genius. Medik8 offers six different Crystal Retinal formulas. The first in the range is specifically designed to meet the needs of sensitive skin, which means even those who've never been able to use standard retinol can finally reap the rewards and see results — without the risk of those unwelcome side effects. As your skin grows accustomed to the treatment, you can ladder up to beginner level 3 before advancing to levels 6, 10, and 20. The final formula in the range, 24, is for experts whose skin can tolerate the higher concentration. The results are truly astonishing at every level. A whopping 100 percent of people felt the serum was 'gentle,' while 97 percent noted their skin looked more youthful. Impressively, in a clinical trial participants experienced a 20 percent reduction in both wrinkles and dark spots, along with an 11 percent improvement in firmness. Those are exactly the kinds of results you expert of an anti-aging product — but very few deliver the way that Medik8's game-changing solution does. In fact, it's clinically proven to smooth away wrinkles in just one week, with improved elasticity in four. The benefits are the same no matter which formula you choose: a smoother, more radiant, more refined complexion that is free of stubborn wrinkles, dark spots, and congestion. Medik8 stabilizes its formulas to ensure that they remain potent to the very end of the tube, so you never have to worry about them losing their efficacy. In other words, you truly get your money's worth — making this advanced skin care worth every penny. Thousands of reviewers agree that it's made all the difference. 'Beautiful results with no side effects,' praised one shopper. 'My skin has never looked better, it's smooth and clear and starting to feel much firmer.' 'Really see a different in fine lines and skin texture using this! The texture is beautiful, a lovely silky formula that absorbs well and doesn't feel like it just sits on the skin,' raved another customer. What more could you ask for than an anti-aging treatment that is both gentle and widely regarded for delivering visible results? Pick up the Medik8 Crystal Retinal Age Defying Night Serum and get set for a more youthful complexion!

This Vitamin C Serum Is The Only Way I Maintain Glowing Skin
When it comes to skincare, not all ingredients are created equally, but one consistently earns its place at the top of the beauty hall of fame: vitamin C. Brightening, smoothing, and seriously glow-inducing, it's the powerhouse my skin can't live without, especially when it's delivered via a hard working serum. My skin is often dull, dry and quite lacklustre, which is why a vitamin C serum is key in my routine. My favourite is from Medik8, the brand that's mastered the art of fusing high performance active ingredients with science informed by dermatologists. If you're after radiant skin and a routine that works as hard as you do, this is the name to know. It goes without saying that, as a beauty writer, I get to try an abundance of skincare when it lands on my desk; as soon as I tried Medik8, I was hooked. The Medik8 ethos is to keep skincare simple and effective with specific ingredients, and I've discovered it works to maintain radiance and hydration in my skin. What I also like is that Medik8 offers products with ingredients of different strengths, which allows your skin to build up a tolerance to actives like vitamin C or retinol. One vitamin C product that caught my attention was C-Tetra Luxe, which the brand describes as a product to brighten, add radiance, reduce wrinkles and tone discolouration. Vitamin C is known for restoring glow and this serum has a more powerful, stabilised strength suitable for all skin types. For those new to the world of vitamin C in skincare, the original C-Tetra is one to have on your radar. 1. Shop: Medik8 C-Tetra Luxe With 14% of vitamin C, this velvety serum offers deep nourishment and hydration as the potent ingredient gets to work to reduce the appearance of pigmentation, tone and dark spots. The rich, oily texture feels luxurious and nourishing without pilling under moisturiser, SPF or make-up. Pros Rich, oily texture Infused with vitamin E and jojoba to provide nourishment Great for all skin types Cons Might be too intense for some beginners Why do I love this vitamin C serum? For me, I instantly see a boost of radiance and plumpness immediately after application and with continued use. The potent ingredient worked to improve dark spots, fine lines discolouration, but primarily solved my issue of dull-looking skin and added some much-needed glow. I originally started with C-Tetra and graduated up to Luxe after a couple of months. My skin reacts well to vitamin C but, for beginners, I would suggest starting with a lower percentage to build up your tolerance. Medik8 advises that both C-Tetra and C-Tetra Luxe are suitable for any skin type, including the most sensitive. I apply this serum in the morning before moisturiser and SPF, and my skin loves the oily texture. I crave a radiant finish, and this serum provides me with the confidence to go make-up free. Consider this serum your gateway into Medik8 - from Press & Glow to the Crystal Retinal range, this brand knows exactly how to get me obsessed with products that fuse skincare science with salon-worthy results. Keep scrolling to shop Grazia's other Medik8 favourites and start your perfect skincare regimen. 2. Medik8 Press & Glow An exfoliating toner is a non-negotiable in my routine and I have nothing but good things to say about Medik8's Press & Glow. This formula is gentle enough to use everyday to remove dead skin cells and texture without irritating. 3. Medik8 Advanced Day Ultimate Protect SPF50+ SPF is vital in every skincare routine, and Medik8's Advanced Ultimate Protect is a great offering to protect the skin. 4. Medik8 Hydra B5 Intense A hyaluronic serum is essential in any skincare routine, and Hydr8 B5's formula is perfect for flooding the skin full of hydration and antioxidants. 5. Medik8 Daily Radiance Vitamin C The all-in-one moisturiser complete with vitamin C and SPF 30 to get your skin glowing and protected from the sun. Vitamin C works to tone, even discolouration and boost radiance alongside SPF 30 to keep your skin protected from any signs of sun damage. 6. Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 The best way to introduce your skin to retinol, Medik8's Crystal Retinal range slowly introduces the ingredient to your skin and allows you to build strength to see continuous results. I'm addicted to this product as it allows me to see changes in my skin and helps improve texture and radiance without causing any irritation. Once your skin has adapted to retinal, gradual through the range and up the strength to continue to see results. Georgia Scott is a beauty product writer for Bauer Media, writing for Grazia. L'Oréal Is Acquiring Medik8 Skin Care Brand
PARIS — L'Oréal is digging deeper into premium skin care by taking a majority stake in Medik8. The news, announced Monday morning, confirms a WWD report on May 9 that L'Oréal had emerged as the front-runner to acquire the U.K.-based brand. More from WWD EXCLUSIVE: Beekman 1802 Founders Release Book 'G.O.A.T. Wisdom: How to Build a Truly Great Business' Assessing the Opportunities and Barriers in Developing Designer Fragrances EXCLUSIVE: Olympic Gymnast Jordan Chiles Becomes Hero Cosmetics' Latest Global Ambassador As part of the deal Inflexion, a European mid-market private equity firm, is to remain a minority shareholder. Medik8's founder Eliot Isaacs will continue serving on its board, and the management committee will stay, as well. L'Oréal also now has the rights to buy out the minority shareholders of Medik8 in full. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it has been pegged at about 1 billion euros, according to media reports, indicating a return to unicorn valuations in the beauty industry. 'This acquisition further strengthens L'Oréal's Luxe portfolio, adding a premium, science-backed skin care brand with a proven track record of success, with strong potential for global growth,' L'Oréal said in a statement released Monday. Cyril Chapuy, president of L'Oréal Luxe, said that 'as a premium skin care range, with high levels of proven efficacy at an accessible price point, Medik8 perfectly complements our existing skin care portfolio.' He added: 'We share a strong belief in Medik8's global potential, and are excited to embark on this journey together, to build a powerful and impactful brand presence worldwide.' Simon Coble, chief executive officer of Medik8, said the brand was 'joining forces with a company which shares our vision for future growth and whose core values align with our deep commitment to science, innovation and, above all, results without compromise. I look forward to the next stage in Medik8's journey, as we work together to bring our innovative products to a wider audience.' Isaacs said in a separate statement released by Medik8 that the brand was born to prove that skin care can deliver no-compromise results, which are rooted in science, consumer experience and driven by sustainability. 'I am delighted that Medik8 has now found its long-term home at L'Oréal — a partner that fundamentally embraces our vision and gives us the platform to deliver it on a truly global scale,' he said. WWD had been told there were numerous suitors wooing Medik8, which is in the hot beauty category of prestige skin care. At the beginning of the year, WWD reported that Medik8 was exploring deal options. In a WWD article published on Jan. 27, Coble said: 'It's natural that we are starting to think about our future and also about future growth investments. We have no specific plans or timeline in place. The business is very well invested in today, is extremely profitable and there is no urgency on our part.' In 2025, the brand's global revenues are expected to hit around $115 million, while its sales in 2024 were up 50 percent. Medik8's hero product is its Crystal Retinal serum, and the brand is also known for its proprietary CSA Philosophy, a system using vitamin C and sunscreen in the day, followed by vitamin A by night. In January, Medik8 unveiled its new Liquid Peptides Advanced MP serum. Medik8's peptide products have become a growth engine for it in the U.S. market, which the brand entered in 2023. Medik8's Crystal Retinal Serum was included in WWD Beauty Inc's 100 Greatest Skin Care Products of All Time. The brand's products are developed and manufactured in-house in its U.K. Innovation Center, based outside of London. Medik8, a B Corp-certified brand, was founded in 2009 by Isaacs. Today, it has more than 300 employees and sells products in more than 7,000 clinics. 'Still true to its professional origins, the brand has also evolved toward a diversified omnichannel sales mix across the most prominent online and offline retailers in Europe, with a growing presence in the U.S.,' L'Oréal said in the statement. Medik8 is sold in professional clinics, pharmacies, on its direct-to-consumer website and through e-tailers and retailers, including Space NK, Sephora U.K. and Harrods. L'Oréal's Luxe division has a portfolio of brands including Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Helena Rubenstein, Carita, Biotherm, Aesop, Kiehl's, Youth to the People, Shu Uemura and Yue Sai. In the first three months of 2025, the division led the group's overall sales growth. L'Oréal Luxe registered sales of 4.09 billion euros, up 7.3 percent on a reported basis and 5.8 percent in like-for-like terms. News of the Medik8 acquisition comes less than two weeks after it was announced that E.l.f. Beauty was acquiring Hailey Bieber's Rhode in a transaction valuing at $1 billion. This marks an uptick in beauty deals after a period of decline. A bevy of beauty brands had entered the market over the last year, but most of those never culminated in deals.
