Napoli launch £25.6m bid as Brighton consider midfielder sale

Napoli Table £25.6m Offer for Brighton Midfielder Matt O'Riley Napoli lead pursuit of Brighton midfielder Brighton's commitment to strategic recruitment and development continues to draw attention from Europe's elite. According to Sky Sports, Napoli have made a formal offer of £25.6 million (€30 million) for Matt O'Riley, placing them at the front of a growing queue for the midfielder's signature. Advertisement Negotiations are underway, with Brighton reportedly open to a deal if their valuation is met. While the club still consider O'Riley 'an important part of their project,' the Seagulls are understood to be realistic about the financial opportunities presented by such bids. Photo IMAGO Serie A clubs Atalanta and Roma are also tracking O'Riley, with the latter's new manager Gian Piero Gasperini a long-term admirer. But Napoli are in pole position, pending the sale of André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia. Premier League midfield reshuffle continues Napoli's midfield now includes familiar Premier League names in Billy Gilmour, Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne, with Stanislav Lobotka still part of the rotation. O'Riley would add depth and flexibility to a squad looking to retain domestic and European competitiveness. Photo IMAGO Advertisement For Brighton, the situation is delicate. Losing another key player to a European powerhouse may be seen as inevitable, yet it still stings for a club striving to establish a lasting top-flight presence. Our View – EPL Index Analysis For Brighton fans, this is yet another frustrating reminder of the club's place in the football food chain. Matt O'Riley represents everything Brighton have done right in recent years — smart scouting, patient development, and a clear tactical role within a progressive system. But if he's sold now, it'll feel like another promising chapter ripped from the book just as it was getting interesting. The timing is particularly painful. After a season of inconsistency, what the team needs is stability, not more turnover. O'Riley offers a rare mix of vision and control, someone who can dictate the tempo in games where Brighton too often drifted. Watching him go to a Napoli midfield already packed with talent like De Bruyne and Lobotka will be a difficult pill to swallow. Yes, £25.6 million is a significant sum, but how much is continuity worth? The club may benefit financially, but the cost to morale and progress could be far steeper. Fans want to build — not rebuild — every summer.

Celtic to cash in again as Napoli eye £25m bid for Brighton's Matt O'Riley

Matt O'Riley is poised to net Celtic another transfer windfall this summer as Brighton weigh up a bumper offer from Napoli for his signature. The Serie A champions have tabled an opening bid of £25.6million for the midfielder, with the Seagulls apparently open to selling the Danish international if the price is right. Although the 24-year-old only joined Fabian Hurzeler's side a year ago, it's believed the Premier League club won't stand in O'Riley's way if his heart is set on joining Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour at the Italian club. While Napoli may have to submit an improved bid to get the deal done, Brighton are now willing to cash in on a player who cost them £25m from Celtic a year back. It's understood the Parkhead side would stand to net 10 per cent of the selling price - potentially seeing between £2.5m and £3m going into their coffers. Celtic paid MK Dons £1.5m for the player in January 2022. Across the course of two-and-a-half seasons in Glasgow, O'Riley won six major honours, scoring 27 goals and contributing 35 assists in 124 games. Those statistics put him on Atalanta's wanted list a year ago. After three failed bids, the former Fulham player moved back to England instead for a record fee for an outgoing Celtic player. Roma, now managed by former Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, have also been credited with an interest in the player this week. O'Riley endured a difficult start to his time at Brighton when he was injured on his debut against Crawley Town in the League Cup in August. While an enforced spell on the sidelines restricted him to just 11 starts for his new club, his talent has continued to win him admirers. If the Napoli deal goes through, it will be the second time this summer that Celtic will have benefited from a former player moving clubs. Jeremie Frimpong's move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool for £29.9m ensured Celtic netted around £5m more on a player they sold to the German club for £11m in 2021. Meanwhile, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is closing in on his second deal of the summer, with Nordsjaelland forward Benjamin Nygren set to join Kieran Tierney as a new arrival at Parkhead. Primarily a right winger, the 23-year-old Swede has scored 35 goals in 106 appearances for the Danish Superliga club.

Gasperini wants Matt O'Riley since Atalanta days

Gian Piero Gasperini has asked Roma to try and pursue Brighton midfielder Matt O'Riley. The Dane is one of Gasperini's favorite players since his days at Celtic. In fact, the Roma manager was very close to recruiting him to Atalanta last year but ultimately Brighton overtook la Dea in the race for O'Riley. Advertisement According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have shown interest in the Danish talent in recent weeks, though there is a lot of competition involved. O'Riley could be the ideal reinforcement for the midfield, capable of giving balance and quality to the Giallorossi. His current pricetag is of around 20 million euros.
