25 Bangladeshi nationals held in Tirupur for illegal entry, stay
Tirupur: The Palladam police on Thursday arrested 25 Bangladeshi nationals for illegal entry and stay in India. Employed with garment units in the district, all the arrested were residing in and around Palladam for more than five years.
According to a police officer, the illegal immigrants were nabbed based on a specific tip that Palladam police inspector Mathaiyan and team received on the day.
"The team received information that a group of Bangladeshi nationals were residing in rental houses at Kunnangalpalayam near Palladam. They subsequently searched the area and collected identity proofs from the residents. All of them had Aadhaar cards. The team verified the addresses and found that 25 of them with a West Bengal address were Bangladeshi nationals and they had obtained Aadhaar cards by forging documents," the officer said.
He said some of the Bangladeshi nationals were residing in the area for more than a decade. "All the arrested managed to enter India illegally through West Bengal and reached Tirupur by train. They were staying in rental houses at Kunnangalpalayam near Karaipudur. They took the houses on rent by submitting Aadhaar cards as their address proof."
The arrested Bangladeshi nationals were produced before a judicial magistrate court, which remanded them in judicial custody.
