Northcote: Reno transforms cottage into masterpiece

It was love at first sight for Amy and Mat, who purchased 34 Andrew St in 2015, after seeing the property only once. 'At the auction, no one was bidding and it was about to be passed in, so we put in a bid and luckily got to buy it,' she says. Initially attracted to the street, which Amy describes as 'one of the best in Northcote,' the challenge to renovate an old double-fronted house in the area was also a motivation. 'The original house was a very basic workers' cottage,' she says. 'It was a case of worse house, best street, but we could see the potential.' The couple started working on the plans for Andrew St with architect James Lane and Tom Eckersley in 2018, but due to other commitments and life events, didn't start the knockdown of the original home and the rebuild until several years later. 'The inspiration for Andrew St originally came from our architect, who made a compelling point that we are not living in the past, so why not create something that reflects how we live today, rather than replicating a bygone era we never actually experienced,' Amy says. 'That comment really resonated with us, and the twisting shape of Andrew was created.' The exterior of the home demands attention with its trendsetting facade, while the interior blends bespoke design and luxury appointments, including exposed brickwork, polished concrete floors, and solid stone surfaces. Functionality and space are key to the double-story home's layout, an element Amy says is one of her favourites. 'Functionality was most important; we wanted the house to grow with our family of four,' she says. This feature continues outside, with a landscaped backyard that wraps around to an entertaining area with an in-built barbecue, wood-fired pizza oven and a sparkling lap pool. 'We wanted grass from them to play on, and we are big entertainers, so the whole house needed to know how to entertain,' she says. 'The unit above the garage suited our lives with both our parents living in country Victoria, and they just love the space and sleep-ins they can still have when staying with us with small children.' While contemporary, the home also features elements of its original form, Amy says, with timber beams and classic Northcote red bricks salvaged from the demolition and used in the home. 'Our incredibly talented next-door neighbour crafted the timber into our current front door and also built the bench seat out front. The salvaged Northcote reds found a new life in the outdoor entertaining areas,' she says. 'A little bit of the past is still present in the future.'

Taskmaster fans 'mortified' by 'humiliating' moment in Channel 4 show

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Channel 4 series Taskmaster is known for its utterly bonkers scenes, but this moment in season 19 might just have topped them all. The new season has pitted comedians Fatiha El-Ghorri, Jason Mantzoukas, Mathew Baynton, Rosie Ramsey, and Stevie Martin against one another for 10 weeks of wild, wacky and wonderful tasks. By the end, one of them will ultimately be crowned champion. Oh, and win a bust of host Greg Davies' head. In the latest episode, Glass Half Most, which aired on June 12, Horrible Histories star Matthew Baynton shocked and horrified fans with his execution of one task set by the one and only… little Alex Horne. All five contestants were told to eat yoghurt in the most or least 'dignified' way. They could do this however they wanted but the results had to be 'extreme'. An instruction Mathew didn't take lightly. Cue the Ghosts actor pouring yoghurt onto Alex's shoes before crawling towards him in his underwear and licking it off while a group of bystanders filmed him to complete this ritual of utter humiliation. 'Please forgive me Daddy, I've got your shoes all mucky,' Mathew said as he liked the yoghurt which Alex voiced his approval for. Gregg seemed suitably amused in the studio, although Mathew noted after-the-fact: 'There aren't enough points in the world that could have made that worthwhile for the cost it's going to have.' Even though he collected the top score of five points, he has scarred viewers at home with his display… perhaps forever. 'I just watched the newest episode of Taskmaster. What Mat did for the yogurt task was the most unhinged thing I've seen on that show,' Shania wrote on X. 'Mat's undignified yogurt task is crazy, absolutely foul,' villagesillyguy echoed. 'There was something on this latest episode of taskmaster that i didn't think you could legally broadcast on public television,' rorschachisgay posted. Then added: 'I cannot describe what the f**k it felt like sitting on the couch and seeing this happen with no warning.' 'Hope Mat knows this clip will forever haunt him for the rest of his life and career. As a fandom I fear we have to be prepared for this to be mentioned and talked about at every event foreseeable future,' Taylor Kate reflected. 'Really hoping interviewers stop asking Mat Baynton about his time on horrible histories and instead spend the next 15 years focusing on that time he licked yogurt off of alex horne's shoes while calling him daddy on taskmaster,' italianpatbutcher shared. 'Mathew Baynton willingly humiliating himself on national television for yet another week in a row,' Caz said. 'I watch Taskmaster with my PARENTS, watching this task was mortifying,' Addy0302 added. 'It was horrifying, disturbing, just awful all around. 10/10, couldn't stop laughing, Taskmaster genuinely is the show that keeps on giving,' hydrioid101 praised. In an interview with Metro, Mathew admitted that he did 'something he might regret for the rest of my life' when discussing what to expect from his stint on the Bafta-winning show. We may finally have just witnessed exactly what he was referring to. 'The bizarre thing about that is that no one is telling you what to do, it's your decision. 'So I was the maker of my own misfortune in that sense… it's like you just go into this strange mental space, and all you're thinking about is the task, and you're being forced to make decisions quite quickly, and you just do it and throw yourself into it. 'It's only when you're in the car on the way home that you think, 'Oh s**t, that's going on TV, that's going to last forever'.' It was the idea of opening himself up to public judgment which gave him a 'momentary wobble' when signing up to the show but ultimately he decided to go for it. Boy are we glad he did as he has been part of a season churning out comedy gold with the latest episode convincing fans this season could be an all timer. More Trending 'Series 19 is proving to be one of the best ever series of Taskmaster – each contestant is bringing something different to the mix. Great to see this show continue to go from strength to strength,' Matthew Rimmer said. 'S19 has just been such a joy. every new ep is the greatest episode so far, and the chemistry between the cast is just so excellent. i don't want this series to end,' jar jireh binks agreed. 'This weeks Taskmaster is an all time classic. I wasn't sure about this line up for a few episodes, but it's growing into an all timer,' WIll Sugg added. Lidl is launching £4.99 pet essential that will keep your dog cool while relaxing on the patio this summer

However, a budget-friendly Lidl buy can help to keep your dog cool all summer long. Simply place it on your patio or outdoor area and your pup is sure to be drawn to it. The Zoofari Rectangular Dog Cooling Mat will be available for £4.99 from the middle aisle. Made with recycled materials, this handy mat requires no additional cooling. Simply lay out the mat and don't worry about placing it in your fridge or freezer beforehand. This item doesn't need an power or extra water to keep your pet cool this summer. In fact, you don't even need to switch it on, just have your dog lie down on it. According to manufacturers, the mat provides a "cooling effect for several hours when there's dog body contact". And it will even be ready to use again by your pooch after "just a short break". The product has been described as "versatile" and can be used on beds and in kennels. I transformed my garden patio into summer haven for less than £100 with cheap B&M buys including gadget to keep bugs out This mat measures 50 centimetres by 90 centimetres and can be easily stored after rolling. And as with most Lidl middle aisle buys, this item comes with a three-year warranty. The cooling mat will hit the middle aisle from Sunday, June 22. The animal experts at the USPCA broke down the importance of keeping your pets cool and comfortable during the summer. "Dogs can develop heat stroke quickly and can be fatal," they explained. Dog breeds most susceptible to overheating In general, there are six groups of dogs who struggle most in hot weather... Firstly, those with underlying health problems. Dogs can't sweat like we can, so rely largely on panting to cool down. However, if they have airway or lung impairments, or suffer from fluid balance or hydration issues, then this is more difficult, and their ability to lose heat is reduced, meaning they are at a higher risk of heat-stroke. Overweight animals find it harder to ventilate, and their core temperature rises faster than you'd expect for a lean dog. Very young dogs or very old dogs are also at increased risk of heatstroke, and these owners should be even more cautious in hot weather. Dogs with very thick coats, who are adapted to a colder climate. Dogs such as the Husky or Malamute - and even the Chow Chow - have been bred to keep heat in. However, this comes at the price of being less well able to cope in hot weather. Their thick double coats effectively trap heat, making it the equivalent of us going out in the July heat wearing a fur coat and thermal underwear: they get very hot, very quickly. This problem can be alleviated by clipping (NOT shaving), however, the coat can take a long time to grow back. In a heatwave, though, if you're struggling to keep your dog cool, I'd personally rather have a dog with a thinner coat who's alive than a luxuriously coated dog in the morgue. Short-nosed, or brachycephalic, breeds such as Pugs, Bulldogs, and French Bulldogs. These dogs have been bred to look "cute", with big eyes and flat faces. Unfortunately, the result of this has been a narrowing of the airways and a profusion of soft tissue in the nasal chambers and pharynx - we call this Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome, and it profoundly affects their ability to pant and lose heat. Like a dog with any other respiratory disease, most members of these breeds are highly prone to heatstroke, and as they are often overweight as well, are at very high risk in hot weather. "It is vital that owners ensure their dog has access to water and cool shaded areas to rest at all times. "It's also important you monitor your dog throughout the day to check changes in their behaviour." They recommended making use of cooling mats to ensure your pooch doesn't overheat. "A cooling mat is great in order to lower your dogs temperature," they explained. "The cooling pad absorbs heat from the dogs body and releases it into the environment." Aldi is also selling a budget buy that will help keep your pooch cool this summer.

Comet Lithium to Launch 2025 Exploration Program at Triple L and Elmer East Properties, Targeting Copper-Nickel and Lithium Anomalies

Highlights: Fieldwork to commence on June 13th at the Triple L and Elmer East properties, in collaboration with Dahrouge Geological Consulting Ltd. Intensive surface exploration program will include 35 traverses across high-priority targets. Triple L Property exploration will focus on refining MAG and TDEM anomalies using a Beep Mat to identify potential copper-nickel mineralization. The 17-day program will involve two experienced field teams, with Comet's VP of Exploration, Vincent Cardin-Tremblay, actively participating in the exploration efforts. ROUYN-NORANDA, QC, June 10, 2025 /CNW/ – Comet Lithium Corporation (TSXV: CLIC) (FSE: 8QY) ('Comet Lithium' or the 'Corporation') is pleased to announce the launch of its 2025 Phase 1 Exploration Program, set to begin on June 13, 2025, on its 100%-owned Triple L and Elmer East properties in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of the province of Québec. Prospecting Program: A Targeted, First-Pass Program Comet's 17-day field campaign will be conducted in partnership with Dahrouge Geological Consulting Ltd., adding proven technical expertise to the Corporation's exploration efforts. Two experienced field teams will carry out investigation, detailed mapping, sampling, and traverses across 35 planned lines in areas deemed most prospective for mineralization (shown in red in Figures 1 to 5 below). Triple L Property High-priority targets at Triple L Property were identified and selected through the interpretation of 2024 high-resolution magnetic (MAG) and time-domain electromagnetic (TDEM) survey results, alongside satellite image interpretation. Several prospective anomalies will be investigated by the field team, with support from a Beep Mat to refine target detection for potential copper-nickel mineralization. These high-priority zones are highlighted in red on the maps (see Figure 1). Geophysical surveys are not definitive, and the results are still at an early stage of interpretation, with no guarantee of a mineral discovery. The Beep Mat is a portable electromagnetic survey instrument that continuously records subsurface readings as it is pulled along the ground by an operator. It emits a distinctive audible 'beep' when a conductive body is detected within approximately three metres. Elmer East Property At the Elmer East Property, priority prospecting targets were identified via satellite image analysis. The high-priority zones, shown in red (Figure 2), represent areas where bedrock is most likely outcropping or sub-outcropping, with potential for lithium-bearing pegmatites. Several outcrops have been identified in the southern block of the Elmer East Property. 'We're excited to kick off the 2025 exploration program at our Triple L and Elmer East properties,' said Vincent Metcalfe, Chair and CEO of Comet Lithium. 'This initial phase is a critical step in advancing our portfolio, and our systematic, first-pass approach is designed to efficiently evaluate multiple high-priority target areas. At Triple L, identifying copper-nickel showings is a key focus, and our early geophysical interpretation and satellite analysis have revealed highly promising anomalies. With the expertise of our field teams and partners, we're well positioned to uncover meaningful mineralization and unlock the broader potential of both properties.'
