March Madness Hero DJ Burns to Play in The Basketball Tournament
DJ Burns may have another Cinderella run in him. The former North Carolina State star and March Madness darling has committed to play in The Basketball Tournament this summer. He will be representing Team Challenge ALS, a fan-favorite squad that has played in TBT five different times. They were formed to raise awareness for the disease, and have received support from a variety of fans. With that as its motto, Burns will fit in perfectly. While he was at NC State, he captured the adoration of fans of many schools for his unorthodox play style. A 6-foot-9, 275-pound big-man, Burns showcased nimble and effective footwork and the passing acumen of a guard. In 2024, Burns led an 11th-seeded NC State team to the program's first Final Four since 1983. The Wolfpack became the sixth 11-seed to make a Final Four, which is the lowest seed to ever do it. Burns averaged 14.2 points, 3.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds over five NCAA Tournament games, capturing the hearts of fans as NC State eliminated Texas Tech, Oakland, Marquette and Duke, before falling to Purdue in the Final Four. Following his senior season, Burns was not selected in the 2024 NBA Draft. Now, he'll get a chance to remind basketball fans why they fell in love with him when he appears in TBT, which starts on July 18. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Advertisement On Monday, it was announced that the 6-foot-5 rising senior, originally from Huntsville, would be transferring from Grayson High in Georgia to Prolific Prep. The basketball academy, which recently relocated from California to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has produced returning UA players Aiden Sherrell and Aden Holloway, as well as former Crimson Tide freshman Derrion Reid, who transferred to Oklahoma in April. Eagles dominate the rankings of CBS Sports Top 100 players list
Eagles dominate the rankings of CBS Sports Top 100 players list Philadelphia Eagles land an NFL high 10 players on Pete Prisco's, CBS Sports, top 100 players of 2025 rankings Stop us if you have heard this before. The Philadelphia Eagles have endured tremendous losses from their roster, particularly on defense. It's for that reason that there is a viable reason to question whether or not Philadelphia can repeat its recent success. Suppose you've heard that one so often that you feel like ripping your insides out, fear not. You aren't alone. That angle has been bludgeoned to death since free agency began, giving new meaning to the term 'March Madness'. Sure, it's easy to determine why such conversations occur. Josh Sweat came dangerously close to winning Super Bowl MVP before Jalen Hurts threw "the dagger" to DeVonta Smith, but 'Sweaty' is gone now. The NFL's most extraordinary sack celebration will now be performed for the Arizona Cardinals in a blood-red jersey. Sweat wasn't the only player that Philadelphia lost. Darius Slay is gone. So are other valuable contributors from the 2024 roster like Isaiah Rodgers, Avonte Maddox, Oren Burks, Milton Williams, Mekhi Becton, Fred Johnson, and Kenneth Gainwell. No one denies the contributions they all made, but is it erroneous to state that Philadelphia cannot move forward in their absence? Mull that over for a second, and while you're at it, check out a recent take from CBS Sports. This might calm those nerves and put an end to overworked narratives. One bold take could silence all doubts about the Eagles' roster We all love lists. We love rankings. CBS' senior sports writer Pete Prisco offered a good one recently. His top 100 NFL players of 2025 is a must-read. Birds fans will enjoy seeing that he has added ten of the good guys to the ranking: Saquon Barkley (ranked third), Lane Johnson (12), Jordan Mailata (13), and Jalen Carter (17) all landed among the top 20. A.J. Brown (31) and Zack Baun (40) also crack the top 50. The rest of the top 100 is rounded out by Jalen Hurts (52), Quinyon Mitchell (69), Landon Dickerson (72), and Cooper DeJean. DeVonta Smith and Cam Jurgens are among the obvious snubs, but you get the idea. Despite the losses, Philadelphia is still loaded with talent. Sure, replacing guys will be tough, but it isn't impossible. Besides, most NFL squads attempt to navigate this same challenge every season. Signing the best talent to long-term deals is a great way to stock the cupboard. Philadelphia is still impressive on paper. That's obvious, and thanks to shrewd drafting and low-risk, high-reward signings, they should be back in the mix for another title run during the coming football season.
