Aston Villa make approach to sign Jesus Rodriguez from Real Betis
Aston Villa have made an approach to sign Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez. The Athletic reported in the Transfer DealSheet on June 3 that Villa are looking increase their wide forward options this summer. Villa's main focus is to balance books before the June 30 profitability and sustainability deadline, but the club also want to sign a wide player and Rodriguez is among the options senior figures have contacted to outline parameters of a potential deal. Advertisement Rodriguez, 19, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Betis, scoring three goals in 31 appearances for Manuel Pellegrini's side having graduated through the club's youth system. He is a winger who plays predominantly on the left flank and was a second-half substitute in the side's Conference League final defeat to Chelsea. Rodriguez has appeared three times this calendar year for Spain's under-21 side, while he has started 20 matches for Betis — who recorded a sixth-place finish in La Liga last season. Analysis by Jacob Tanswell Villa are targeting a couple of positions — namely right-back, centre-back and a versatile attacker — but strengthening in the wide areas is needed. Leon Bailey is expected to leave in this window, with Saudi Arabian clubs expressing an interest. This would leave Villa without an archetypal wide player, with Lewis Dobbin expected to go on loan again next season and Samuel Iling-Junior unlikely to get the regular game-time he wants, should he return to Villa after loans at Bologna and Middlesbrough last season. Additionally, there are questions as to whether his long-term future instead lies at left-back. Rodriguez typically operates from the left side at Real Betis but suits Unai Emery's preference for his attackers to be versatile and play in multiple positions across the frontline. Should Villa pursue a deal, the 19-year-old would offer pace and a threat in behind.

Manchester United: Antony hints at transfer decision after delivering Instagram verdict on Real Betis move
Loan spell over: Antony spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign with Real Betis (Getty Images) Manchester United winger Antony has dropped the biggest indication that his long-term future is not with Real Betis. Antony joined the LaLiga outfit on loan in January for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign and enjoyed somewhat of a career renaissance following his well-documented struggles in England. Advertisement The Brazilian netted nine goals and weighed in with five assists in 26 appearances across all competitions, helping Betis qualify for the Europa League in the process. Furthermore, he played a massive role in Manuel Pellegrini's side reaching the Conference League final - even if the journey ended in heartbreak with a 4-1 loss to Chelsea. There has been talk of Antony joining Betis on a permanent transfer this summer, but it would appear the 25-year-old has confirmed his time at the club has come to an end. In a video on his Instagram, he said: "Today is the day to thank one of the most beautiful chapters of my life. Advertisement "From the first step into this club, I felt something different. It was like coming home, like finding a piece of myself that I thought I had lost. With you, I started to smile again. "Thank you for welcoming me as one of your own. Thank you for giving me back the joy of playing football. "And thank you for reminding me why I fell in love with the game. My home, my people, thank you so much." What the future holds for Antony remains to be seen as links to Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad and Juventus have also emerged in recent days considering he is not expected to be part of Ruben Amorim's plans for next season. After losing the make-or-break Europa League final to Tottenham, Man United need to raise funds to bring players in this summer and Antony's form over the past five months has placed him in the shop window.

Antony sends emotional message to Real Betis as Man Utd return looms
Antony hailed his Real Betis loan spell as 'one of the most beautiful chapters of my life' as he prepares for his return to Manchester United. Antony endured a torrid first half of the season in the Premier League, compounding what had been a frustrating two seasons at Old Trafford following his £85million from Ajax in 2022. The Brazilian featured just eight times in the league before being shipped out on loan to Betis in January, but enjoyed a much-needed revival during his loan spell in Spain. Antony registered nine goals and five assists for Manuel Pellegrini's side, helping to guide them to the Conference League final against Chelsea. And while Antony and Betis endured a painful last dance, losing 4-1 to Chelsea in Poland, the winger was grateful for his time at the club as he penned an emotional open letter following the end of his loan. 'Today is the day to give thanks for one of the most beautiful chapters of my life,' he said in a video released on Instagram. 'As I write this page of my story, I need to tell you why you have been —and always will be —so special to me. Since I was a child, football wasn't just a dream, it was my only chance to change my life. 'Life took me far, from the favela to the world. I left Brazil, played in the Netherlands, played in England, and went from being a boy to becoming a father. 'A lot has changed, but footballhas always been there, always my safe harbour. Until one day, everything collapsed. From heaven to hell. The ball stopped going in, the joy faded, my world darkened, and I began to doubt myself, my talent, and my passion for the game.' Antony continued: 'That's when football gave me one last gift: Real Betis. When I arrived here, I didn't know what to expect, but not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine finding what I found. 'From my first step into this club, I felt something different. It was like coming home, like finding a part of myself I thought I had lost. 'With you, I smiled again; with you, I found the kid I once was—the one who loved football with all his heart. With you, football became love again. Thank you Real Betis.' Betis had previously hinted at their desire to make Antony's loan spell permanent, but the Brazilian was coy when asked about his future following Wednesday's Conference League defeat. 'I don't what will happen in the future, only God knows,' he told CBS Sports. 'My work is playing and I'm doing that well. I have a lot of affection for Betis, for everyone but I have a contract with Man United and I don't know what's going to happen, only they know what's happening. More Trending 'Now I will go to the national team and then on holiday then we will see what happens in the future.' While Antony is unlikely to have a future back at Old Trafford, reports suggest the Brazilian has already attracted interest from Bayer Leverkusen, now managed by former United boss Erik ten Hag. German outlet Kicker claim Ten Hag is also keen to explore a move for Alejandro Garnacho, with the Argentine also set to leave United this summer after a falling out with Ruben Amorim. Chelsea roar back to beat Real Betis in UEFA Conference League final
WROCLAW - Chelsea roared back to beat Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final in Wroclaw on Wednesday, becoming the first club to complete a clean sweep of European trophies. Manuel Pellegrini's enterprising Betis caught the favourites cold with an early goal from Abde Ezzalzouli against a flat-footed and listless Chelsea. But Enzo Maresca's second-half substitutions injected energy and Cole Palmer changed the complexion of the game in a five-minute spell, setting up Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson to score. Substitute Jadon Sancho made the game safe in the 83rd minute as the Spanish side faded in their first European final and Moises Caicedo added gloss to the scoreline. Chelsea are the first club to win the full set of five UEFA club tournaments -- the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, Super Cup and the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup. They have also won their first silverware since Todd Boehly's consortium took over from former owner Roman Abramovich in 2022, following an era of unprecedented success for the club. Boehly was on the pitch at the end, savouring the win that seemed unlikely when Betis were in control in the first half. Chelsea have ended the season with a flourish after also securing a place in next season's Champions League following a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League. Maresca, in his first season at Stamford Bridge, said he hoped Conference League glory would be a launchpad for the club. "The club have invested lots of money in the last three or four years, so they are also waiting for results," Maresca told TNT Sports.
