Only urgent cases allowed during civil court vacations: HC
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand high court's (HC) senior judge Manoj Tiwari , presiding over a single-judge bench, rejected a petition seeking to request the lower court to hear an appeal during the summer vacation. The case originated when Nitin Arora filed for a permanent prohibitory injunction and a mandatory injunction. On June 5, with the Dehradun civil courts closed for summer holidays, he filed an appeal under section 96 of the Civil Procedure Code, along with an application under Rule 13 of the General Rules (Civil). The district judge declined the request, citing a lack of urgency to justify a vacation hearing. Thereafter, the petitioner approached the HC. Rule 13 stipulates that courts shall not hear cases on gazetted holidays unless both parties consent, except for urgent matters that require immediate attention. In the districts of Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar, one civil judge (junior division) and one civil judge (senior division) remain available on rotation throughout the vacation period. In other districts, a designated official is appointed to handle urgent cases. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cervecería Nacional CFD: Calcula cuánto podrías ganar invirtiendo solo $100 Empieza a invertir Undo The HC emphasised that while the proviso to rule 13 allows civil courts to consider urgent matters during holidays, it does not confer an automatic right for litigants. The determination of urgency rests with the civil court's discretion. In its June 19 order, the court upheld the previous ruling by the district and sessions court, Dehradun, and concluded that the district judge had acted within their authority when finding insufficient urgency for a vacation hearing. The court found no grounds to interfere with that decision and dismissed the petition accordingly.

(Sonu Mehta/HT Photo) The riverside session, themed 'Yoga with Yamuna', was held under the broader national theme of 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' and drew scores of local residents, schoolchildren, yoga instructors and Delhi government officials. The event began at 6am. Addressing the gathering, CM Gupta urged Delhiites to incorporate yoga into their daily routines. 'While I was invited to multiple venues, I chose to participate at the Yamuna bank, as the river constantly reminds me of my duties,' she said, reiterating the Delhi government's commitment to making the Yamuna clean. 'The Yamuna cleaning work is underway continuously,' she added. Among those present were Delhi cabinet minister Kapil Mishra, MP Manoj Tiwari, Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, and Chief Secretary Dharmendra, all of whom joined the CM on the mat for the session. The session concluded with a display by students from the Sonia Vihar Water Sports Club, who performed advanced yoga poses on a floating platform and showcased kayaking and canoeing skills, creating a visual spectacle on the river. 'It was such a rejuvenating experience,' said Meenakshi Devi, 53, a local resident. 'Once you do it, you actually realise the benefits of waking up on time and devoting some time to take care of yourself, like doing yoga.' The spirit of Yoga Day was echoed across the Capital. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) organised yoga sessions at 39 locations, attracting over 35,000 participants at its sports complexes and green spaces. At Baansera—the DDA's bamboo-themed park—Lieutenant Governor and DDA Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena led a mass yoga event. Elsewhere, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) hosted a session at Dr Ambedkar Stadium, while the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) organised events at eight locations. Prominent institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Delhi University colleges also joined in. The Delhi Police and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) organized yoga activities at various sites. Education minister Ashish Sood, attending the Chhatrasal Stadium session, said, 'Yoga is not just a physical activity but a powerful expression of India's soft power.' Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa led the event at the Hockey Ground in Ashok Nagar and remarked, 'Yoga is not political; it is about our wellbeing… It is incredible to see Delhi come together at every corner to embrace this tradition.'

AAP leader Manish Sisodia appears before ACB in Classroom scam case, says case motivated with BJP politics
New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia on Friday accused the Bhartiya Janata Party of 'misusing' agencies to file false cases against the opposition. The former Delhi Deputy CM appeared before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a case of Delhi's classroom scam. Manish Sisodia said that excellent work has been done in Delhi in education and brilliant classrooms and schools were built during his tenure. He alleged that the case filed against him is motivated by politics with the BJP, and he will keep his stand against the ACB. He further mentioned BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and asserted that he had made allegations against him related to the same case. However, Sisodia later filed a defamation suit against Tiwari, after which he is currently out of jail on bail. 'See, excellent schools have been built in Delhi and excellent education is imparted but BJP, motivated by politics, misuses its agencies and files FIRs. This is completely a politically motivated case and I will put my views before the ACB. BJP misused all the agencies and dug up the lives of each and every leader but they did not find anything. They only file fake FIRs, the same will happen in this case as well. I want to say one thing that Manoj Tiwari had made these allegations against me but when I filed a defamation suit against him, he is out on bail. In this, Manoj Tiwari is also running away from the allegations, I wonder why BJP is doing this', Manish Sisodia told reporters on Friday. On June 5, Delhi Police's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has recorded statements of nearly 20 individuals, including engineers, contractors, and officials from the Education Department. According to sources, police have also questioned an architect whose bank account allegedly received funds from the contractors. Notably, no architect was officially appointed in this government project, raising serious questions about how and why the funds were transferred to the architect's account. This financial trail has now become a crucial aspect of the investigation. Earlier on the complaints of BJP leaders Harish Khurana, Kapil Mishra and Neelkanth Bakshi, the Anti-Corruption Branch, GNCTD has registered a case against Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain, the then Ministers of the erstwhile Delhi Govt. of Aam Aadmi Party, regarding allegations of a scam to the tune of Rs. 2,000 crore in the construction of school classrooms/buildings in NCT of Delhi at exorbitant costs.
