"Reduces stress, enhances quality of life": J-K LG Manoj Sinha participates in 11th International Yoga Day

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 21 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday participated in 11th International Yoga Day Celebration with Yoga enthusiasts and performed Asanas laid down Common Yoga Protocol. The Lieutenant Governor said that in today's fast-paced world, the importance of Yoga is immeasurable. 'Yoga reduces stress and enhances quality of life. This year's International Yoga Day theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' highlights holistic approach to health for humanity. This ancient Indian tradition ensures mental and spiritual harmony in the society and harmonises the body, mind and spirit'. The Lieutenant Governor appealed to the people to incorporate Yoga into daily routines and motivate others to practice Yoga for a happy living. Meanwhile, in Gujarat's Vadnagar, a total of 2,121 people made a Guinness World Record when they held the Cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds. According to Richard Stunning, official adjudicator at Guinness World Records, a record with a title for the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga began on Saturday. The minimum number of participants for the record was 250; they had to hold the Yoga Cobra pose for at least a minute. A total of 2,184 participants breached the one-minute timeline; they ended up holding the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds. The Guinness World Records discounted 64 participants, after which 2,121 participants held the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds to clinch the Guinness World Record. 'The Guinness World Records title that starts today is the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga, simultaneously. We set a guideline that everyone had to do it for at least a minute each, and we set a minimum target of 250 participants. Today, they did it for more than a minute, they did it for two minutes and nine seconds, and the total was 2,185. We had to discount 64 participants. So the confirmed title is 2,121 participants. Given we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved, and it's a fantastic achievement', Richard Stunning told ANI. (ANI)

No helicopter service for Amarnath pilgrims this year: Shrine board

A day after the Jammu and Kashmir government declared the Amarnath Yatra routes as no-flying zones from July 1 to August 10, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) on Wednesday announced that helicopter services would not be available for pilgrims this year. This is the first time that such a decision has been taken by the SASB in the backdrop of heightened security measures after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that triggered Operation Sindoor under which terrorist training camps were targeted in neighbouring Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. The announcement made by the SASB on its website read: 'The competent authority has in its order dated June 16, 2025, declared all routes of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra, including both the Pahalgam and Baltal axes, as a 'no flying zone' from July 1 to August 10, 2025. Consequently, helicopter services for pilgrim travel shall not be available in the yatra area during the Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY,) 2025.' Following an order by lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha, the pilgrims should reach the cave shrine from both South Kashmir's Pahalgam and North Kashmir's Baltal routes on foot or by using ponies and palkis (palanquins), it added. The terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam had left 25 tourists and a local guide dead. India retaliated with Operation Sindoor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India has only paused Operation Sindoor as terrorism will be treated as an act of war.

Kashmir Reawakens: 16 Tourist Spots Reopened After Pahalgam Terror Attack

From local residents to tourist traders and visitors, everyone has welcomed the reopening of Kashmir. The Valley is buzzing with activity as 16 out of the 48 closed tourist spots have reopened following improved security conditions after the deadly Pahalgam attack. The clouds of terror have begun to lift as 16 tourist destinations — eight in the Kashmir Valley and eight in the Jammu region — have been reopened. These spots had been closed after the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. This phased reopening, announced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, aims to revive tourism and restore public confidence, as the attack had severely impacted the region's economy. Reopened Destinations Include In Kashmir: Betaab Valley, the park near Pahalgam Bazaar, Verinag Garden, Kokernag Garden, Achabal Garden (Anantnag district), Badamwari Park, Duck Park (near Nigeen Lake), and Taqdeer Park (near Hazratbal, Srinagar). In Jammu: Sarthal and Dhagar (Kathua), Devipindi, Siad Baba, and Sula Park (Reasi), Guldanda and Jai Valley (Doda), and Pancheri (Udhampur). The decision has been met with enthusiasm from tourists and locals alike, seen as a sign of returning normalcy. The upcoming Amarnath Yatra is also expected to significantly boost the region's tourism sector. Tourist traders and locals, especially in Pahalgam and Srinagar, have expressed relief, as their livelihoods were heavily affected by the closures. Pony owners, shikara operators, and vendors are hopeful about regaining lost income. Many had been urging the administration to reopen destinations, and now that some have, a sense of relief is widespread. Manzoor Pakhtoon, head of the Kashmir Houseboat Industry, remarked, 'We had said if destinations remain closed, it sends a negative signal. We thank the administration—it's a welcome step. We hope more places reopen soon. Registrations for the Amarnath Yatra and train arrivals show signs of tourism picking up again.' Security Measures Stepped Up To address safety concerns, the administration has implemented a full spectrum of security measures. This includes: Deployment of CRPF and Jammu & Kashmir Police at all tourist sites Tourist Police Units at each location to support visitors High-resolution CCTV and FRS (Facial Recognition System) cameras at entry/exit points, parking areas, main roads, and crowded spots 24/7 surveillance with motion detection and night vision Central monitoring rooms set up in each district Facial recognition databases integrated with blacklisted individuals to proactively flag threats Boosts to Tourism Efforts to restore confidence include the launch of the Vande Bharat Express connecting Kashmir to Katra, rising tourist footfall, and recent visits by a parliamentary committee to assess the region's security. Promotional efforts, including tourism vouchers and social media campaigns, are also in full swing. While 32 tourist destinations remain closed, officials have confirmed they will reopen in a phased manner based on ongoing security reviews in the coming weeks.

Amarnath yatra routes declared ‘no-flying zones' from July 1 to Aug 10

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday declared the Amarnath Yatra routes as 'No Flying Zones' from July 1 to August 10. The annual yatra, which will start on July 3, will be the first major pilgrimage in the region since the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in which terrorists gunned down 26 terrorists in Baisaran meadow, and the four-day armed conflict between India and Pakistan in May this year. As per the orders issued by the J&K home department, on Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha's directions, flying of any kind of aviation platforms and devices, including UAVs, drones, balloons, is prohibited on both yatra routes – the Baltal and Pahalgam axis. The order will, however, not be applicable in case of medical evacuation, disaster management or for surveillance by security forces. The decision follows the recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and other stakeholders, during back-to-back meetings held over the past week, the order further stated. A senior police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said the government did not want to take any chances with the Amarnath pilgrims' safety. 'After the attack on tourists at Pahalgam, which is close to the yatra route, extra precautions are being taken. Every possible threat is being assessed and preventive measures are being taken by the government.' The security forces have already announced 'Operation Shiva' as part of which, nearly 50,000 paramilitary personnel, in coordination with the J&K Police, will conduct daily road opening operations to detect and neutralise hidden explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on yatra routes. Jammers will be installed for the first time to protect the yatra convoy during its movement. The forces have already taken over routes that will be used by yatris and additional security is in place across J&K.
