HANAMKONDA: BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy was arrested late on Friday at the RGI Airport at Shamshabad in connection with an alleged extortion case and released on bail within 18 hours. The Special Judicial Magistrate of First Class for Railway Cases in Kazipet, Ch Leela Naga Susmitha, rejected the police request for remand and granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and surety from two persons. The arrest followed a complaint lodged on April 21, 2025, at Subedari police station by Katta Umadevi, wife of Manoj Reddy, a resident of Excise Colony, Hanamkonda. In her complaint, Umadevi said that her husband, who runs a granite business in Vangapally of Kamalapur mandal, had been under mental stress for 20 days. The complainant claimed that Manoj Reddy revealed to her that Kaushik Reddy threatened and extorted Rs 25 lakh from him to allow the continuation of his granite business in Huzurabad. BRS cadre stage protest at Subedari police station Umadevi further stated that on April 18, 2025, Kaushik Reddy allegedly called her husband again, demanding Rs 50 lakh and threatening to harm their family if the demand was not met. Based on her complaint, Subedari police registered a case under Sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 of the BNS. Earlier, Kaushik Reddy had approached the High Court seeking to quash the FIR. On June 16, the court dismissed his plea and directed him to cooperate with the investigation. The interim protection from arrest granted earlier was vacated. Following news of the MLA's arrest, a large number of BRS activists gathered at the Subedari police station. Former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and former government chief whip Dasyam Vinay Kumar were among those who reached the station and staged a protest demanding access to the MLA. The police allowed them to meet him inside the station. The activists also attempted to burn an effigy of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in front of the police station but were detained and taken to Madikonda police station. Later, Subedari police took Kaushik Reddy to MGM Hospital in Warangal for a medical examination before producing him in the Kazipet Railway Court.

HANUMAKONDA: In a dramatic late-night swoop, Warangal police arrested BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Friday and whisked him away to Hanumakonda for questioning in an extortion case . However, in a surprising turn, a Kazipet court rejected the police remand plea and granted him bail on a Rs 20,000 personal bond within hours, bringing an end to the 18-hour high drama. The Huzurabad legislator was booked by the Subedari police on a complaint filed by Katta Umadevi, wife of granite businessman Manoj Reddy. In her complaint, lodged on April 21, Umadevi alleged that Kaushik Reddy had been threatening her husband for over 20 days, demanding money from Manoj for running his granite business in Vangapally village in Kamalapur mandal. She alleged that Kaushik Reddy had already extorted Rs 25 lakh and, on April 18, called again demanding Rs 50 lakh. According to the complaint, he threatened to kill Manoj Reddy and his family and used abusive language. Subedari police registered a case under sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The MLA had earlier moved the Telangana high court seeking to quash the FIR. However, the court dismissed his plea on June 16 and vacated the interim protection from arrest, instructing him to cooperate with the investigation. Despite this direction, police claimed that the MLA was evading questioning, which prompted his arrest upon arrival at the airport. After his arrest, Kaushik Reddy was taken to the Subedari police station and later to MGM Hospital for a mandatory medical check-up before being produced in Kazipet railway court. His arrest sparked protests from BRS workers. Former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and ex-chief whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar arrived at the police station, demanding to meet the MLA. Party workers also attempted to burn an effigy of chief minister A Revanth Reddy outside the station, prompting police to detain several of them and shift them to Madikonda police station. Police will continue their investigation into the extortion charges, sources said.

According to available information, Katta Umadevi, wife of Manoj Reddy and a resident of Excise Colony in Hanamkonda, lodged a complaint on 21-04-2025 at the Subedari police station. She stated that her husband, Manoj Reddy, was running a granite business at Vangapally village in Kamalapur Mandal of Hanamkonda district. He had been under mental stress for the past 20 days. When Umadevi asked her husband about the reason, he told her that Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy had threatened him, saying that if he wanted to run a granite business in the Huzurabad constituency, he must pay money to him. The MLA allegedly extorted Rs 25 lakh from him. Again, on 18-04-2025, the accused, Padi Kaushik Reddy, allegedly called Manoj Reddy from his mobile phone and demanded another Rs 50 lakh. He reportedly threatened to kill Manoj Reddy and his family if the amount was not paid, and used abusive language. The petitioner requested the police to take necessary legal action.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court single bench of Justice Kunuru Lakshman on Monday directed BRS Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy to face Trial in FIR 252 of 2025 dated April 21 registered against him u/s 308(2), 308(4) 352 BNS by the Subedari PS. The court dismissed Reddy's petition seeking 'quash' of the FIR. During the hearing thehe petitioner, through his counsel T V Ramana Rao, pleaded innocence in the case and contended that he was falsely implicated due to political also contended that a false complaint was filed by Katta Uma Devi, wife of Manoj Reddy from Gundedu village of Kamalapur mandal of Hanumkonda district, who allegedly is into illegal quarrying business. His quarrying area falls under Reddy's area. When villagers of the area approached the petitioner, he called Manoj Reddy and asked him to stop the illegal business as it was depriving the residents of a clean environment and was affecting health of livestock. Justice Lakshman directed the investigating officer to investigate the content of Uma Devi's complaint that Reddy had demanded Rs.25 lakh and Rs.50 lakh for quarry operations in his area. After the court dismissed his plea the MLA filed anticipatory bail petition seeking a direction to the Subedari police to enlarge him on bail, in the event of his arrest. He assured the court that, he being a local person, the question of absconding does not arise; he assured to cooperate in the investigation. Reddy contended that the FIR was intended to wreck political vengeance as he belongs to the Opposition BRS party. He stated that there is a delay of 3 ½ days in filing the complaint in the PS; the statements of witnesses also clearly speak about the delay in registration of crime from the date of offence. The bail petition may come up before a single judge bench soon.
