Ex reality star charged with murder after her partner was found dead in a unit
A woman who starred on Beauty and the Geek has been charged with murder after a man's body was discovered in a home in Port Lincoln, South Australia. Emergency services were called to the property on Flinders Highway at about 3:25pm local time on Thursday following reports of a small fire. When crews arrived, they found a man dead inside the residence. A 34-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder. The Courier Mail reported on Friday that the woman was once a contestant on reality show Beauty and the Geek. South Australia Police have confirmed the victim and the accused were known to each other and had been in a relationship. The woman was refused police bail and remains in custody. Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Branch and officers from the Forensic Response Section were flown into Port Lincoln to assist local authorities with the investigation. 'I can reassure members of the community that this is not a random incident,' SA Police State Operations Service Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott told reporters. 'We understand that the female who has been arrested and the deceased male both lived at this address,' he said. 'It is still very early stages of this investigation and it's likely that the Major Crime investigators and the forensic response members will be there most of today.' Assistant Commissioner Parrott said a cause of death had not yet been determined and no further details could be released, as the victim's family had not yet been notified. The woman did not apply for bail and has been detained under the Mental Health Act. She is expected to return to court in December. A suppression order preventing the publication of any information that could identify the woman, the victim, or the specific details surrounding the man's death was issued. The suppression order is set to be reviewed by the court next week.

Break-in suspect facing murder charge after man's body found, police say
A woman arrested over a break-in in Adelaide's east is expected to be charged with the murder of a 65-year-old man whose body was found at a nearby unit, police say. Police were called to the unit on Walkerville Terrace at Gilberton about 7pm on Monday after receiving a report of a man collapsed inside. The victim was found dead at the scene and Major Crime investigators deemed his death suspicious. A short time earlier, police had been called to another home on the same road after intruders were seen in the backyard. Police said the 30-year-old from Gilberton was arrested at the scene, but was taken to hospital for treatment of cuts. In a statement, police said the woman had been "arrested in relation to the break-in as well as the man's death". "She is expected to be charged with murder and will face court at a later stage," police said.

Beloved father dies two weeks after being hospitalised during dramatic Adelaide arrest
A man has died two weeks after a dramatic arrest in Adelaide's eastern suburbs that left him in a critical condition with a brain injury. Gaurav Kundi, 42, from Modbury North had his life support switched off on Thursday and died surrounded by his family. Kundi was hospitalised after police attempted to arrest him on Payneham Rd at Royston Park where police allege they witnessed an 'altercation' between Kundi and a woman. During the arrest, Kundi's condition declined and he 'became unresponsive'. Kundi was rushed to hospital, where his family were told later he had an 'unrecoverable' brain injury. A woman, who was at the scene, alleges that Kundi was restrained with a knee to his neck by police. Kundi's arrest and outcome sparked a commissioner's inquiry, where SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens told ABC Radio Adelaide the inquiry would be conducted 'on top of' an investigation by Major Crime and the internal investigation section detectives. The inquiry will review SA Police's policies, practices, procedures including training in relation to responding to incidents. SA Police said no one was shot, and no police taser was deployed at the scene. Media in his home country of India have compared the arrest to George Floyd case in the US in 2020. Floyd, a 46-year-old Black American man, was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee and the weight of his body against Floyd's neck. Stream free on

SA Police launches Commissioner's Inquiry into Royston Park arrest incident
SA Police has launched a Commissioner's Inquiry after a man became unresponsive while being arrested last week in Adelaide's east. SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens told ABC Radio Adelaide the inquiry would be conducted "on top of" an investigation by Major Crime and the internal investigation section detectives currently underway into the incident on Payneham Road at Royston Park in the early hours of May 29. The 42-year-old Modbury Park man remains in a critical condition in hospital. Commissioner Stevens said the inquiry would look at SAPOL's "policies, practices, procedures including our training in relation to responding to these types of incidents to make sure there are no opportunities for any other improvements or any failures in those elements". "It is significant, we don't call many commissioner's inquiries and that is where we have a major incident involving police activity and there's a need to be able to demonstrate that the actions of the police officers involved were appropriate in the circumstances and if not what were the factors that we need to address to make sure similar things don't occur again," he said. "Wherever there is a death in custody, it's virtually automatic that there's a Commissioner's Inquiry. "Given the significant injury this man has suffered as a result of his interaction with police, it is my assessment that we should be doing that level of inquiry." "People need to have confidence in us that we do out job as professionally and effectively as we can — that's the reason we're calling it [the inquiry]." Commissioner Stevens said he has viewed part of the body worn camera vision and the initial assessment was the officers involved "were acting in accordance with their training". He said eight officers responded to the incident and their body worn cameras were recording. He added all involved officers remain on active duty. When asked if the officers would be stood down during the inquiry, Commissioner Stevens said, "If there's anything throughout the process that indicates that that should occur, we change their duties, we don't stand them down so that we can manage that inquiry effectively". He said a Chief Superintendent had been allocated as the inquiry's senior investigating officer. In a statement last week, police allege the man "was assaulting a female" when they intervened. "While being restrained the man violently resisted police," SA Police alleged. "After being restrained he became unresponsive and police administered first aid until SAAS (SA Ambulance Service) arrived." The man's partner spoke with other media outlets about the incident. ABC has attempted to reach out to her.
