Damien Priest is not about to miss his "home games" for any reason this summer
Damien Priest (Image via) Damien Priest has been quietly making his place in the WWE from the very beginning, and his tenure with the SmackDown brand only shows how much he has grown over the years. He was last seen at the Saturday Night's Main Event on May 24, where he faced off against Drew McIntyre in a rematch contested in a Steel Cage match. Priest won the match by escaping the cage, ending his feud with the latter. McIntyre has since taken some time off to heal and recover from multiple injuries that he suffered. And looks like it could be the same for Priest. Is Damien Priest planning to take some time off the ring? Rumors are afloat that Damien Priest could be taking some time off from wrestling this summer, which could possibly mean that he would miss out on SummerSlam. After Liv Morgan 's unexpected injury, she will need time to recuperate, and many think Priest could be joining her on the same. But the wrestling star has shut off that idea totally, saying there is no way he will miss his "home games." Fightful Select had previously reported that Priest is pretty "banged up" after facing off against McIntyre, but the Archer of Infamy seems eager to come back to the ring during the SummerSlam event, which will happen over two nights in New Jersey. And given that Priest himself is from New York, it's easy to understand why he would count this event to be "home games." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 남재현 원장, 복부둘레 반토막 내는 "이것".. 똥뱃살 빼고 싶다면? 남재현 체지방 다이어트 더 알아보기 Undo Sources inside WWE are also very happy with his dedication, and "noted that working through Summerslam seemed to be important to him as it's a 'home game' for him." Drew McIntyre is on a long hiatus from the ring, but his opponent is not taking off for now, and we will see him at the SummerSlam event, set to take place over the weekend of August 2 and August 3, 2025, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Rapper Cardi B will be hosting the event, and it will be two nights of extra fun and chaos in WWE. More Pro Wrestling: WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg Officially Announces Retirement Match During the June 16 episode of Monday Night RAW, Goldberg came down the ramp to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12, 2025, in Atlanta, GA. While this is certainly an exciting moment for longtime WWE and WCW fans, others are concerned about the match-up for plenty of reasons, including it coming at the cost of Jey Uso's world title reign and younger wrestlers on the WWE roster. This has led to multiple fans getting hypercritical of the iconic wrestler, calling out his age and accusing him of simply being a product of former WCW president Eric Bischoff. Now, Bischoff himself has spoken up, shutting these accusations down. At 58 years old, Goldberg says this match is not just about winning a title. It's personal. He wants to finish his wrestling career the right way, and most of all, he wants his son, Gage, to see him in the ring one last time. Goldberg says Gunther thinks he is just an old man Goldberg recently appeared on The National Football Show and shared what he believes Gunther thinks about him. He admitted that Gunther probably does not take him seriously anymore. 'Who I am to him (Gunther) is an old man – is a 58-year-old guy who is hobbled and not like he used to be and he believes that even at my peak, he could have taken me which is absolutely laughable. But, I mean… he's a formidable opponent. He's the World Heavyweight Champion.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Even though Goldberg knows Gunther sees him as past his prime, he still respects the champion. The National Football Show with Dan Sileo | Wednesday June 18th, 2025 'It's an honor to step into a position to be vying for the World Heavyweight Championship at 58 years old. I don't know of any other ones who've retired with a match like that.' Goldberg returned to WWE during the June 16 episode of Monday Night Raw. As Gunther was in the ring talking about who might challenge him, Goldberg surprised everyone by coming out. Soon after, the match was made official for July 12 in Atlanta. The truth behind Goldberg's WWE return The last match of Goldberg was at Elimination Chamber 2022, and he was not happy with how it ended. That loss stayed with him. Now, he says he wants to go out on a better note. More than anything, he wants his son to be proud. 'Because I ain't freaking going out the way I went out. Period, end of story... I'm gonna do my best… 50 percent of me is better than 99 percent of the pricks on the planet... It's another opportunity to give Gage a platform to see his dad go out and do his thing.' Goldberg has been training for the last six months to prepare for this fight. He knows it will not be easy, and he even said he does not care if he has to be carried out of the ring afterward. 'If they have to drag me out of there or carry me out of there, then that's fine because I chose to do it and I chose to spend the last six months training and preparing for this.' Goldberg to challenge Gunther on Saturday Night's Main Event: Raw, June 16, 2025 As the conversation went on, Bully Ray's comments on Busted Open about Goldberg's return were brought up. Bully Ray said on Busted Open Radio that it did not make sense and was disrespectful to others. Goldberg fired back with a strong response. 'I was 176-0. I don't have to stand in freakin' line… So Bully Ray can bite me. But everybody's got an opinion... I love him to death and I respect his opinion. But his opinion is like an asshole and everybody's got one.' He also responded to fans calling him too old to wrestle. 'Everybody, 'Oh, Goldberg's limping to the ring, Goldberg's small, Goldberg's old.' I am freakin' old. What do you want me to do? … Turn the clock back? But, show me another 58-year-old dude that's willing to go out and do this?' As the big match gets closer, Goldberg is ready to risk everything. He is not just fighting Gunther, he is fighting for his legacy, for his family, and for one final moment in the spotlight. Goldberg's WWE retirement ride is about more than him as AEW battle revs up
Goldberg began his career as a major weapon for WCW in the Monday Night Wars of the late 1990s. He will end it as a major chess piece in the next great battle in the industry between WWE and AEW. The three-time world champion returned to WWE television for the first time since a cameo at Bad Blood in October to challenge Gunther to a World Heavyweight championship match at Saturday Night's Main Event in Atlanta on July 12 for the start of the 'Last Ride' of his career at 58. Advertisement The city is a special place for the former Atlanta Falcon as it is also where he had his most famous match against 'Hollywood' Hulk Hogan and won the WCW championship at the Georgia Dome in July 1998 on Nitro, when he was lighting up the wrestling world and buying Ted Turner's company another year at the top of the industry against WWE before its inevitable collapse. Nearly two decades later, WWE will bank on Goldberg's star power again as the likely centerpiece of a weekend of counter-programming against AEW's biggest show of the year, All In from Globe Life Field in Texas.

The comments came as he discussed Goldberg's recent return to challenge World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER. The WWE Hall of Famer returned on the June 16 episode of Raw to set up his final match. It will take place at Saturday Night's Main Event in Atlanta on July 12. Big E's 'What If' Scenario Speaking on a recent WWE Raw Recap show, Big E shared his long-time admiration for Goldberg. Big E has been sidelined since March 2022 with a severe neck injury that has put his in-ring career in jeopardy. This injury is why his dream match with Goldberg is not a possibility. "And I think that's what intrigues you is, is good. Could we see it? Right. Could this really happen? Is this possible? I don't think so, but maybe?" Goldberg has stated coming into the match that he's dealt with injuries while training for it. Hopefully, he can have one last great performance.
