Paderu (ASR District): Alluri Sitarama Raju district collector AS Dinesh Kumar has announced an ambitious plan to achieve 100% organic farming across the district by the year 2028. He urged farmers to make effective use of the agricultural machinery provided by the government to achieve significant progress in the agriculture sector. Addressing a meeting held at the Collectorate on Thursday with farmers who received farm machinery at 50% subsidy during the 2024–25 financial year, the collector emphasised the need for planning at the village secretariat level. He directed officials to conduct a survey to assess the actual requirement of farm equipment across various regions. Additionally, under the Employment Guarantee Scheme, saplings of Maddi, Neredu, and Jackfruit will be distributed to farmers. He encouraged land-owning farmers to expand coffee cultivation in the district. Young Aussie traveller's 18-hour nightmare in Chinese airport after passport vanishes
Instead of enjoying an overseas holiday she had "dreamed of for years", an Aussie traveller was left stranded in an overseas airport for more than 18 hours after her passport went missing on her flight. Maddi Healey, 20, and her friend flew over 10 hours from Sydney to Guangzhou, China earlier this month, speaking excitedly about their plans to visit The Great Wall. However, as they lined up at the customs desk, Maddi realised her passport was nowhere to be found. "We turned the bag inside out and searched my friend's bag. It was not there," she told Yahoo News. "I then noticed a decent-sized rip in the top of my backpack that was not there before leaving for China." Panicked, the pair asked if the plane could be searched for the missing passport. Nothing was found. "Something didn't feel this point, my friend and I had to make the tough decision as to whether or not she would continue the trip solo in the hope that I would recover my passport and meet up with her. We said our goodbyes," Maddi said. Airport staff instructed Maddi to sit down and that's what she did — waiting for over 18 hours without WiFi or access to power outlets to charge her phone. She claims she was given little information on what would happen next and that staff were generally unhelpful. After calling the Australian embassy, who were unable to help her as she hadn't yet gone through customs, Maddi had no faith her passport would be found or handed in. She got the impression that stolen passports were a "very regular occurrence" in the country from speaking to the embassy, and she sadly resigned herself to the fact she'd simply have to fly home. An airport worker came to her rescue. "About seven hours in [ my wait], a lovely man who was working at the international desk came over and offered his help... he sat with me and booked me a ticket back to Sydney... I ended up paying $660," she explained, adding the worker forfeited his lunch so Maddi could eat something. "I believe that if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have gotten home the way I did and in such a timely manner," she said. "I was in complete despair, filled with fear and frustration." ✈️ Woman denied flight to popular holiday destination over tiny passport detail 🧐 Traveller calls out dodgy $398 Australian passport detail 🆘 Couple stranded for three days on closed Aussie road Maddi is now warning Aussies to be "so careful" with their passport, urging travellers to "keep it strapped to you at all times". "Don't assume everyone has the same level of respect for your belongings. Have all your documents photographed and saved in your phone," she said. "I was extremely disheartened that I was missing out on a trip that I had dreamt of for years." Maddi also called for a review of the international system, claiming there needs to be more services that help Aussies who are stuck in the "grey area" — not yet in the country but no longer on the plane. "Being unable to be helped by the embassy due to a matter of metres is really hard. I hope no one else has to experience this during their travels." There has been a significant increase in the number of Aussie passports stolen, with 1,942 reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade between 2023 and 2024 — a 28 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Let the jostling begin: Sevens stars stir up Wallaroos' World Cup plans
'Even just knowing that those [sevens] players are putting their hand up, we've seen real growth because the competition for places is there.' Something had to change for the Wallaroos, given Australia's women's XVs team have never looked like dominating on the world stage. They lost six of their first seven games of 2024, including 48 and 64-point thumpings at the hands of New Zealand. Squad for Wallaroos training camp Waratahs: Ruby Anderson, Emily Chancellor, Annabelle Codey, Waairia Ellis, Georgina Friedrichs, Caitlyn Halse, Tia Hinds, Arabella McKenzie, Bridie O'Gorman, Siokapasi Palu, Faliki Pohiva, Maya Stewart, Adiana Talakai, Bienne Terita. Reds: Bree-Anna Browne, Charlotte Caslick, Lori Cramer, Zoe Hanna, Eva Karpani, Tiarah Minns, Layne Morgan, Tiarna Molloy, Natalie Wright. Brumbies: Katalina Amosa, Biola Dawa, Ashley Fernandez, Martha Fua, Lydia Kavoa, Manua Moleka, Tania Naden, Tiarna Molloy, Faitala Moleka, Ella Ryan, Tabua Tuinakauvadra. From seven World Cups, Australia has only made one semi-final. Their highest world ranking was No.3 in 2004. Now they are sixth. Caslick, arguably Australia's greatest female sevens player, is the headline inclusion in the extended squad. Add to that Tia Hinds, who has pulled out of next month's Los Angeles Sevens tournament and committed to the Wallaroos'. Bienne Terita is also a seasoned sevens pro, having already represented the Wallaroos. If a Wallaroos team were picked today, would Caslick be in it? 'Anyone that's coming into the 40 is there and thereabouts in terms of selection,' a measured Yapp said. 'Obviously, Charlotte is the sort of player that does have that versatility. She's been focusing on [playing at number] 15. You can see the growth in her over the last few games.' Yapp has to tread a fine line between talking up the sevens inclusions and ensuring they work hard for their positions. It has always been the case for coaches wanting to bolster their squads with outside talent without upsetting the regulars. There are, however, more troops to come. The Levi sisters - Maddi and Teagan - are likely to play for the Wallaroos this year in the lead-up to the World Cup, but when remains a mystery. Kahli Henwood and Bella Nasser are also in the frame. After the LA sevens tournament, the Levi sisters will be eligible, but Yapp says she isn't prepared to throw someone in like Maddi straight away, despite her remarkable try-scoring feats in recent years. Australia's Test against the USA on May 17 in Canberra could be an option if Yapp wanted to fast-track the process. 'Ultimately, we want to make sure we're setting Maddi up for success,' Yapp said. 'Bringing her straight in to play a Test match without any real XVs exposure or experience … wouldn't be fair on her. If we're bringing her in, we need to give her opportunities to train with the group first. 'We know that we've got a strong back line that has been performing well. When you look at Maya [Stewart], Desi [Desiree Miller], G-Fred [Georgina Friedrichs] and C-Smith [Cecilia Smith] ... they're strong players for us. What it does is allow us to create some depth in areas that we've not had.' Loading Australia have seven Tests before the World Cup begins, which will see the Wallaroos take on Samoa, England, and the USA in pool matches. 'We know that the pool we're in is a challenge and the USA game is a critical one for us,' Yapp said. 'Ultimately, it's us making sure we get out of the pool, and then we've got a real chance of getting into the top four.'
