Hazel Hall scholarship awarded
ASHLAND The Ashland Area American Association of University Women awarded the Hazel Hall Memorial Scholarship this year to Macy Stewart, a graduate of Boyd County High School.
Hazel Hall was a dedicated teacher at Boyd County High School and a serious lifelong learner. She lived a long, fruitful life and died this year. More than 70 years ago, as Hall began her college years, she was awarded the annual AAUW scholarship. Because she received this scholarship, she was a generous donor to the AAUW scholarship fund for many years. She wanted to pass the torch to others.
Hall graduated from what was then the Ashland Community College and went on to finish her undergraduate work at Marshall University. She served for decades as the anatomy and physiology teacher as well as a biology teacher at Boyd County High School. She leaves behind a legacy of well-educated science students.
Macy Stewart also will attend Ashland Community and Technical College and finish her undergraduate studies at Morehead State University. She plans to obtain a degree in radiologic and imaging sciences with an emphasis in computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
