Gov't studying to impose 50% discount for senior citizens riding LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3
The government is studying if the increase of discounts given to students when riding the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 could also be applied to senior citizens, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Friday. ''Inaaral pa po iyan,'' Castro said during a press briefing. (That is being studied.) ''As much as possible, kung puwede nga pong ilibre lahat, iyon ang gusto ng Pangulo. Pero aaralin po iyan at hindi naman po natin agad-agad maibibigay or kakayaning maibigay. Inaaral po ngayon iyan sa kasalukuyan,'' she added. (As much as possible, the President wishes to make it free for everyone. But, we will study that and we cannot implement that immediately. That is being studied.) The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced the increased discount for all students from 20% to 50% for LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 starting Friday. Under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, Student Fare Discount Act, and Magna Carta for Persons with Disability, senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities are entitled to a 20% discount in public transportation fares. The promo is valid for Single Journey Ticket only and not applicable for Beep Cards or Stored Value Tickets. DOTr implements 50% discount for students in LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the increased discount for all students from 20% to 50% for LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 starting Friday. "Ang 50% student discount ay applicable rin sa mga estudyanteng naka-enroll sa postgraduate studies at magagamit sa train lines araw-araw, kahit Sabado, Linggo o holiday," said DOTr in a Facebook post. (The 50% student discount is also applicable to students enrolled in postgraduate studies and can be used on train lines every day, even on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.) Under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, Student Fare Discount Act, and Magna Carta for Persons with Disability, senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities are entitled to a 20% discount in public transportation fares. The DOTr, meanwhile, reminded the students about the following in order to get discounted rates: Students are required to present their valid ID within the current school year. This shall apply to all students, including those taking up postgraduate studies. Promo is valid for Single Journey Ticket only and not applicable for Beep Cards or Stored Value Tickets. LRT-1 to give free rides on Independence Day
Passengers of Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) will get free rides on June 12 in celebration of the 127th Independence Day. In a statement, LRT-1 said the free rides will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in all of its stations. It added that LRT-1 will still have a regular operating schedule on June 12. The first train from Dr. Santos and Fernando Poe Jr. Stations will leave at 5 a.m. The last trip from Dr. Santos Station will be at 9:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. from Fernando Poe Jr. Station. Earlier, MRT-3 and LRT-2 announced that they will also offer free rides on June 12 during the same timeframe. Common station, MRT-7 finished by 2027 — DOTr's Dizon
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Tuesday committed that the common station for LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7 lines will open in 2027, coinciding with the start of the operation of MRT-7 which connects Metro Manila and Bulacan. Dizon said this prior to the approval of his ad interim appointment as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) by the transportation committee of the Commission on Appointments (CA). 'Ang goal po natin is makahanap na tayo ng bagong gagawa at magtatapos ng istasyon ng common station ngayong 2025 at ang timeline natin is kasabay sana ng opening ng MRT-7 ay tapos na rin ang common station, para by 2027 tapos na po finally,' he said. (Our goal is to find a new contractor to build and finish the common station by 2025. Our timeline is to finish the common station at the same time as the opening of the MRT-7, so that by 2027 it will finally be finished.) 'Parang 15 years na itong mga proyektong ito between common station, MRT-7, at ang koneksyon ng LRT-1 at MRT-3. Mahigit isang dekada na ito, halos 15 years na. Tingin ko, within the term of the President, lahat ng prokeytong ito ay matatapos na at operational,' he added. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said under the promo, only one member of the family or a group needs to pay for the fare and enter the turnstile while the rest of the family will pass via the side entrance.
