Tippers in MNAC to have GPS tags

1 2 Jamshedpur: Tippers, which collect waste within the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) limits, will be fitted with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices for their real time monitoring. The move, MNAC officials said, aims to ensure timely and regular waste collection from households and markets and public places. Additionally, the tippers will be allotted ward-wise identification numbers, and each vehicle will make rounds to the respective wards. "Very often, tippers are off the road due to mechanical faults, breakdowns, and driver absences. The ward-wise allotted number will aid in keeping track of the vehicles that are off the road. It will also help in determining whether the garbage of the respective ward was lifted or not due to the vehicle's fault," Mango deputy municipal commissioner Kirshna Kumar said. Cube Adityapur Waste Management Private Limited, the private enterprise entrusted with the collection and disposal of waste, has been directed to deploy sanitation workers in full strength for the regular disposal of waste from all the wards. Home to over 3 lakh people across 33 wards, MNAC collects 52 metric tonnes of municipal waste daily. A total of 292 cleaning workers and 26 Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCV) are engaged in the collection and disposal of the waste.

Aragon and Catalonia battle over the 'Sistine Chapel of Romanesque art'

Letter from Madrid After 11 years of complaints, appeals and back-and-forth between various courts, on May 28, Spain's Supreme Court finally ruled in the case of the mural paintings from the Romanesque Monastery of Santa María de Sijena. The dispute has pitted the regions of Aragon and Catalonia against each other since 2015. Unsurprisingly, but not without controversy, the court upheld, as a final ruling, the sentence imposed on the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) in Barcelona: It must return the monastery's frescoes, located in the town of Villanueva de Sijena in the province of Huesca, within 20 days. Dating from 1196 to 1208, the works were removed in 1936 to protect them from the Spanish Civil War, before being purchased by the MNAC from nuns who were not the rightful owners. For the Catalan museum officials who have displayed the works since 1961, and who in recent years have called on numerous experts to bolster their case against the transfer, the decision puts extremely fragile works at risk. For the Aragonese government, which invested nearly €1.2 million in restoration work at the monastery, including the installation of a sophisticated climate control system to accommodate the paintings, it is time for the "Sistine Chapel of Romanesque art" to return to its original home. "The monastery is now able to store these works in perfect safety and, very soon, to exhibit them," said Jorge Azcon, president of the government of Aragon and of the right-wing People's Party of Aragon.

Tribals protest municipal limits extension in Jamshedpur

1 2 3 Jamshedpur: The Scheduled Tribes (STs) community living on the periphery of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC), and Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) staged a demonstration at the DC office on Tuesday opposing the govt's proposal to extend the command limits of the three municipal bodies and include the panchayat areas. Representatives of different social and religious outfits, besides panchayat heads and traditional village heads, among others, said that the culture, customs, and rural lifestyle of the adivasis would be compromised with the inclusion of the panchayats in the municipal limits. "Several tribal families in the villages own 10 bighas of ancestral land on average. The holding tax of the municipality will cause a heavy financial burden on the modest earning families," said Mukhiya Sangh general secretary, Kanhu Murmu. Further, the agitating crowd claimed that the whole of Jamshedpur comes under the Fifth Scheduled Area of the Constitution, and in the past, a large part of the land was acquired by the govt for the purpose of setting up industries and developing a planned city without taking into confidence the heads of gram panchayats of that time. "Whatever land we are having in the panchayats will not be parted with the govt for the extension of the municipality," said Majhi Baba Sangh president Ramesh Murmu. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Notably, the JNAC and JMC completed the satellite survey of the six panchayats earlier in April this year, while MNAC is yet to finish it. Presently, the process of determining the extended boundaries of the municipal areas of Jamshedpur and Jugsalai is ongoing ahead of submitting the report to the urban development department. "The purpose is to provide better municipal facilities to the people living in the areas identified for inclusion in the municipality," said a senior JNAC official, requesting anonymity in the wake of the increasing protest against the proposal. The agencies have identified Moharda, Harlung, and Ghorabandha panchayats for JNAC and Bagbera and Kitadih for the JMC, respectively.

MLA, locals stage protests as water crisis deepens in Mango

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur (West) MLA Saryu Roy led a sit-in outside the office of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner on Thursday to demand a permanent solution to the ongoing water crisis being faced by the residents of 36 wards of Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) during the summer months. Besides residents of Mango, several politicians from the NDA fold also attended. Roy said he was compelled to stage protests as despite his best efforts over the last four months, the problem remained unaddressed. "I suspect a conspiracy behind the problem. Despite assurances from the top officials at the secretariat level, the officials at the lower rung are not working to translate assurance into action," Roy claimed. Roy said some forces were conspiring to fail the Rs 125 crore Mango Drinking Water Project. The MLA stated that 75% of the population in Mango is not getting water in their taps, while the municipal and the drinking water and sanitation department officials are least bothered to repair the burntmotors of the water treatment plant and overhead water tanks. "At Baliguma, households are not receiving even a drop of water due to the delay in laying the water supply pipeline on NH 33," he said. Locals also protests outside a water treatment plant in Jawahar Nagar.
