Joey Chestnut returns to Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest: Is the record in danger?
Competitive eating icon Joey Chestnut is set to make his triumphant return to the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest next month, after missing last year's event due to a sponsorship dispute. Chestnut, a 16-time champion and holder of the world record with 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes (set in 2021), announced his comeback on social media this week. 'This event means the world to me,' Chestnut wrote on X. 'It's a cherished tradition, a celebration of American culture, and a huge part of my life.' Chestnut missed the 2024 competition following a disagreement with Major League Eating (MLE) over his endorsement deal with Impossible Foods, a plant-based company. However, he emphasised that his involvement in the plant-based space never conflicted with his love for traditional hot dogs. 'I'm excited to be back on the Coney Island stage, doing what I live to do… Stay hungry!' he added. Major League Eating president Richard Shea confirmed the excitement, calling Joey Chestnut's return a moment that will make the 2025 contest 'the greatest Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest of all time.' Last year's champions were: Patrick Bertoletti , who ate 58 hot dogs to win the men's title , who ate 58 hot dogs to win the men's title Miki Sudo, who claimed her title with 51 hot dogs in the women's division The 2025 contest will take place as usual on Friday, 4 July at Coney Island in New York. Philadelphia 76ers free agency: How much will Quentin Grimes get?
Philadelphia 76ers free agency: How much will Quentin Grimes get? Quentin Grimes put on a show in the 28 games he played for the Philadelphia 76ers after being acquired from the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline. He averaged 21.9 points and set new career highs, scoring 44 points in one game and then 46 points in another as he showed off his scoring chops. As Grimes heads into free agency, the expectation is that the Sixers will bring him back, but one has to wonder at what price. Philadelphia's cap space is limited, but it can find a way to create more ahead of June 30 as it can dump the salaries of Andre Drummond, Kelly Oubre Jr., and create more money to bring back Grimes--and Guerschon Yabusele. The Athletic detailed how much they believe Grimes is worth as free agency quickly approaches: Known mostly as a 3-and-D guy, Grimes averaged 32.0 points per 100 possessions and shot 55.9 percent on 2s in 28 games as a Sixer, posting an 18.8 PER. However, the combination of his restricted free agency and the lack of cap space in the market should limit any sort of bidding war and put the Sixers in a strong position to keep him on a team-friendly deal. His BORD$ number is a pretty convenient one as far as his next contract. This is the pay range that keeps his pay above the nontaxpayer MLE, thus icing out any rival offers, but maintains the Sixers' status below the second apron. Thus, a three-year deal for $55 million to $60 million seems like a reasonable endpoint. For those wonder what BORD$ is, The Athletic described it as: "I developed a player valuation system called BORD$ (short for 'Big Old Rating Dollars') that uses analytics and playing time data from the last two seasons, projects values for the coming season based on a player's age and performance and then converts the projected performance and playing time into a salary estimate based on the projected cap in 2025-26 of $154.1 million." Grimes' free agency will be an interesting one to watch. He did put up a ton of numbers, but it also came in meaningless games with the Sixers out of the playoffs down the stretch of the season. One has to wonder how he will fit next to Philadelphia's Big 3 when the time comes and the games matter out on the floor, but his ability to play off the ball should do wonders for this group when October rolls around to begin the 2025-26 season so it's worth it to bring him back.

NBA Insider Reveals Four Most Tradeable Lakers Players In This Offseason
NBA Insider Reveals Four Most Tradeable Lakers Players In This Offseason originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Los Angeles Lakers are set for a busy offseason, marked by numerous major moves to be made. In light of this, NBA insider Jovan Buha recently shared his list of the most realistic moves the team would make, highlighting the team's most tradeable assets in the process, during an episode of "Buha's Block". Advertisement While speaking about the realistic outcomes, Buha expressed how the team was likely to use their taxpayer MLE to sign a player. In addition to this, he said: "They [Lakers] trade at least three of Rui, Gabe, Dalton, and Maxi Kleber, and they're not sure about the inclusion of a first-round pick." "Those are their four primary tradeable player assets with expiring contracts, and Dalton's still on a rookie deal, so I think they trade at least three of those four players. Again, the first (pick) will come down to the opportunity cost that is out there and the types of guys they can get back." A number of the Lakers' needs and requirements were made known during the exit conference. The demand for a solid big man to fill out their frontcourt rotation emerged as the priority for the offseason. In doing so, the team has been in active pursuit of talented candidates, both via trade and in the free agency market. Advertisement While several targets have been identified, it has become quite clear that the team will need to part ways with some of their key rotational players to acquire a talented big, particularly in the case of Nic Claxton, Daniel Gafford, or even Mitchell Robinson. In this regard, the aforementioned players all bring something to the table. Rui Hachimura has been an extremely serviceable forward during his time in LA. He showcased incredible two-way ability, often drawing on tough defensive assignments while also developing into a reliable perimeter threat. Hachimura's averages of 13.0 points and 5.1 rebounds certainly leave more room for satisfaction. However, as an expiring contract, teams would see some value in picking him up now. Vincent and Kleber have also been serviceable. While there is little to say about Kleber, considering he missed most of the season with an injury, Vincent was an integral role player, averaging 6.3 points on 40.0% shooting from the field and 35.3% from beyond the arc. Advertisement Meanwhile, the Lakers' most valuable prospect in this list is their young guard Dalton Knecht. The 24-year-old showed a lot of potential in his rookie season, averaging 9.1 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 46.1% from the field and 37.6% from the three-point line. His perimeter shooting certainly presents a lot of scope for development in the future. But his overall offensive package, including his ability to finish at the rim, could be considered valuable to a team looking at young players. Additionally, the team still has some scope to include players such as Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton via sign-and-trade, along with their second-round picks. Of all the assets the Lakers have, their stock of expiring contracts is immensely valuable when considering trades. With almost $55 million in expiring contracts, the Purple and Gold are capable of facilitating some incredible trades to help structure their roster for the upcoming season. Advertisement Other than trades, the Purple and Gold would still need to clear up cap space to acquire some targets in the free agent market. While the likelihood of Clint Capela joining the team has gathered more traction in recent days, the team will also look at other options to improve their wing depth. Overall, much of Buha's predictions for the offseason are based on the notion of LeBron James opting into his contract or signing a new deal, and Luka Doncic signing a three-year deal with the Lakers. With much of the roster construction being dependent on these events, the Purple and Gold are unlikely to pull the trigger on any moves. Create Account After sitting out last year's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey Chestnut reportedly is in talks to return to the U.S. Independence Day tradition in Coney Island, N.Y. According to TMZ Sports, Chestnut and Major League Eating actively are negotiating towards seeing the 16-time champion of the event return after a year on the sidelines due to a contractual beef. The outlet also says that both sides are eager to get a deal in place for the event which is less than a month away. Chestnut wasn't allowed by MLE to compete in last year's edition of the marquee eating contest due to his sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods — which TMZ reports is no longer a factor in discussions. While Chestnut claimed that he was banned from the contest for signing with 'a rival brand,' MLE said that it was Chestnut's own choice to not compete this year in the contest that he had won 16 of the previous 17 years. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Read More 'Joey was not banned. Joey chose not to compete in the contest the moment he chose to make an endorsement deal with one of Nathan's competitors,' an MLE rep told the New York Post at the time. Patrick Bertoletti, who won the 2024 contest, admitted his victory had an asterisk due to the long-reigning champion's absence. Chestnut did take part in a hot dog eating competition last summer, going head-to-head with long-time rival Takeru Kobayashi in a showdown streamed live on Netflix. Chestnut consumed a world-record 83 hot dogs and buns during the 10-minute contest compared to Kobayashi's 66. At the 2024 Nathan's contest, Bertoletti ate 58 weiners for the win. NBA Trade Idea Brings $195 Million Power Forward To The Los Angeles Lakers
NBA Trade Idea Brings $195 Million Power Forward To The Los Angeles Lakers originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Los Angeles Lakers continue their search for the ideal big man in the offseason. After being linked to several players to address their issues, the Lakers may have yet another offer that could see them solve this problem. Advertisement As constructed, the Purple and Gold have virtually no big men on their roster. With Jaxson Hayes potentially on the way out in free agency, the Lakers have effectively depleted their resources of centers. To make matters worse, the team has also been torn about their position on forward Rui Hachimura. With the likelihood of Hachimura being included in trade packages, the team may very well be devoid of frontcourt depth. The factors in the Lakers' favor are that they still have the non-taxpayer MLE available to them, allowing them to potentially sign players like Clint Capela. Additionally, they also possess limited but relevant assets, giving them more flexibility with signing centers. But the larger concern now is their lack of frontcourt depth, i.e, the wings. Their interest in De'Anthony Melton could be of some benefit in this regard. But instead, we take a look at a trade proposal by Bleacher Report's Greg Swartz to help the Purple and Gold sign Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen. Advertisement Proposed Trade Details Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Lauri Markkanen Utah Jazz Receive: Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, 2031 first-round pick The Lakers and the Jazz have engaged in several trades in the past. With another proposal on the horizon, we examine how the trade impacts each team. The Lakers Acquire A Bona Fide All-Star The acquisition of Lauri Markkanen could potentially reset the roster situation for the Lakers. At 7'0", Markkanen is a legitimate big man. Although he isn't a center by any means, he is a gifted forward, capable of spacing the floor and creating shots for himself. Advertisement Markkanen showed a lot of potential for developing into a star-caliber player during his early years in Chicago. This became a reality during the 2022-23 season with the Jazz when he earned his first All-Star nomination. He averaged 25.6 points and 8.6 rebounds that season while shooting 49.9% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the arc. Although the 28-year-old has been an inconsistent presence on the floor since, owing to injuries, he remains a capable player. Last season, even after playing only 47 games, he recorded an average of 19.0 points and 5.9 rebounds. On the Lakers, Markkanen would be a natural fit next to Luka Doncic and LeBron James. As mentioned, he doesn't slot in as a center, hence the need for a lob threat will still need to be addressed. However, acquiring a third star would give the Purple and Gold a massive offensive boost. In a system where he isn't the primary focus for defenders, Markkanen is capable of producing in a significant capacity. This move is also beneficial as he effectively becomes the replacement for Hachimura. While he may not be able to contribute in the same capacity on defense, he brings a very legitimate upside on the offensive front. The Utah Jazz Continue Their Rebuild The Utah Jazz were the worst team in the West last season. While this may have been a part of their strategy to tank, Utah is in no position to compete as currently constructed. Advertisement A trade of this nature simply helps the Jazz acquire necessary draft capital, with the 2031 first-round pick, and expiring contracts to facilitate moves in the following season. The likes of Maxi Kleber, Gabe Vincent, and Hachimura all fit the bill in this regard. There is a greater likelihood that the Jazz may simply trade Hachimura again to another team in the offseason. Having put an average of 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds on 50.9% FG and 41.3% from beyond the arc, the forward would demand decent value. Trading him would allow Utah to build its reserves and potentially add young players as well. A key addition to the Jazz, however, would be young Lakers sharpshooter Dalton Knecht. The 24-year-old guard showcased a lot of potential for developing into a legitimate perimeter threat. He averaged 9.1 points and 2.8 rebounds on shooting splits of 46.1% from the field and 37.6% from beyond the arc. Given the Jazz's roster construction, Knecht may find himself in a position to play significant minutes, either as a starter or as the first choice off the bench behind Jordan Clarkson. Advertisement Potentially paired with Collin Sexton and Keyonte George, Knecht would find himself amidst Utah's project that could become relevant if nurtured. With good veteran leadership as well, the team could certainly look to improve upon last season's record. Lakers Gain Flexibility With Austin Reaves This trade proposal has its benefits for both teams, but it is quite evident that the Lakers are the real winners. While Markkanen's contributions are certainly an added advantage, it is important to address that the Purple and Gold would manage to acquire him without trading Austin Reaves in this deal. Reaves' contract has been a point of concern for the team. However, given the kind of interest he has garnered, he could help facilitate a move for a superstar. With Markkanen on the team, the Lakers gain the flexibility to reassess their approach and restructure their plans.
