Red Sox rumors: Rival exec outlines trade deadline idea involving Kyle Tucker
The post Red Sox rumors: Rival exec outlines trade deadline idea involving Kyle Tucker appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Boston Red Sox traded away Rafael Devers with weeks to go before the MLB trade deadline. That has raised a lot of red flags around the organization, as they trudge into the future without the face of their franchise. But some look at the money they've saved and think they may have a plan. Mark Feinsand spoke with an anonymous executive who said the Red Sox may have their eyes on a prized free agent. Advertisement 'They're in a really interesting spot now,' an NL executive told Feinsand. 'They could look to take on an expiring contract at a high price point to get through the season and help them compete this year, while still having the financial means to attack a Kyle Tucker-type in the offseason. I think that newly found financial flexibility allows them a boatload of room to be creative.' Another executive Feinsand spoke to targeted Rhys Hoskins, who has a mutual option for 2026. They could have him play first while Tristan Casas recovers from his season-ending injury. That gives the 2025 Red Sox a chance to make the postseason, opens up first base for Casas next year, and keeps the space open for Tucker. The Arizona Diamondbacks are the team to look at when thinking about pending free agents and the MLB trade deadline. Unless they can turn it around quickly, they can rebuild on the fly with a bunch of trades. Eugenio Suarez should not be considered because he plays third base. But first baseman Josh Naylor, pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, and outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr could all end up in Boston. The Red Sox do have a logjam of outfielders and should leave their DH spot open to help themselves out. While the offseason could bring in Kyle Tucker, they need to improve their team for a run this year. Red Sox Predicted Deal Aroldis Chapman at MLB Trade Deadline
Red Sox Predicted Deal Aroldis Chapman at MLB Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox are now one of the hottest names in the MLB trade market after sending arguably one of the best hitters in baseball to the San Francisco Giants. By trading Rafael Devers, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer believes the team is signaling that they are also willing to sell more than Devers at the deadline. Advertisement That means a slew of players, particularly ones on short-term contracts, could be heading out the door. "The guess here is the Red Sox are in for some short-term pain, which could facilitate the availability of Walker Buehler, Aroldis Chapman and maybe even controllable types like Wilyer Abreu," Rymer said. Chapman is a prime trade piece for a team that is not expected to be in the playoff picture come October. His 1.50 ERA and fastball that has been consistently topping 100 miles per hour could bring tremendous value from contenders that are looking to make a World Series run this year. Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (44) reacts following the final out of a victory against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Nicholson-Imagn Images The only downside for prospective teams: Chapman is on a one-year deal, making him a free agent in the offseason. But the motivation is there for Boston, who Ryman believes is in a situation where the playoffs are out of the question now that Devers is gone. Advertisement That makes it even more reasonable to send Chapman to a new club. "As to their contention chances, well, it's a disaster. They subtracted their best hitter and didn't add much in the way of immediate impact, and you naturally have to wonder about whether the team will come to miss Devers' bat even if it doesn't miss his attitude," Ryman said. With plenty of time left before the deadline, the Red Sox are primed to make more trades that lean into their youth movement. Nolan Arenado the Center of Interest in Cardinals Trade Deadline Prediction
Nolan Arenado the Center of Interest in Cardinals Trade Deadline Prediction originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With a month and a half before the clock strikes midnight on MLB's trade deadline, front offices are deciding whether to be buyers, sellers, or do nothing before July 31. Advertisement Prior to Tuesday's St. Louis Cardinals-Chicago White Sox game, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer published an article predicting what each MLB team would do at the deadline. With the Cardinals struggling this month, he suggested the team would perhaps part ways with their biggest star. "The Cardinals were a nice story early on, but a 4-10 June has cleared up any confusion about how good they actually are." Rymer wrote. "Despite his contract and waning production, Nolan Arenado remains an interesting trade chip. He badly needs a change of scenery, and he should want one amid the sudden losing. If he gets one, maybe he'll be energized, Frankenstein-style into the Arenado of old." St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado (28) looks on during the game against the Milwaukee BrewersJeff Hanisch-Imagn Images The 34-year-old has been the subject of trade rumors for several months. Unfortunately, Arenado, a .283 career hitter, is having one of his worst seasons in 2025. Through 68 games, he's slashing .244/.306/.388 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs. His current OPS of .694 is a career-low. Advertisement Despite his struggles at the plate, Arenado could still bring value to teams in need of a gold-glove caliber third baseman. He wasn't the only Cardinals potential trade-chip mentioned in Rymer's article however. "Otherwise, Ryan Helsley, Sonny Gray, Erick Fedde and Miles Mikolas are here, too. The first of those names is arguably the best reliever who could be available this summer." Like Arenado, Helsley's numbers are down in 2025. The 30-year-old has a 3.96 ERA and has blown more saves this season (5) than all of last year (4). However, Helsley is a proven closer who set the franchise record with 49 saves last season, and could be the final piece for a team looking to make some noise in the postseason. Red Sox Predicted to Trade Wilyer Abreu at MLB Trade Deadline
Red Sox Predicted to Trade Wilyer Abreu at MLB Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the Boston Red Sox traded away Rafael Devers, the future outlook of the team was in question. The next step for the team to take is still up in the air, and Boston could still be buyers, just like CBO Craig Breslow claimed. Advertisement But, an article from Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report predicted that the Red Sox would be sellers, and would ship off one of the team's best outfielders. Rymer called out Red Sox right fielder, and Gold Glove winner, Wilyer Abreu, as a player the Red Sox could trade at the deadline. "The guess here is the Red Sox are in for some short-term pain," Rymer writes. "Which could facilitate the availability of Walker Buehler, Aroldis Chapman, and maybe even controllable types like Wilyer Abreu." A scenario of the Red Sox trading away Abreu would be a complete disaster for the Red Sox. With Devers no longer in the picture, there is room for all of the team's outfielders. Roman Anthony and Jarren Duran won't have to compete for left-field duties, and Ceddane Rafaela can continue to patrol center field. Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is seen before a game against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Gorski-Imagn Images The fourth outfielder, whoever it is that day, can be the designated hitter. Boston sending away Abreu after the Devers trade would be a continuation of the frustration Red Sox fans have felt the moment the trade broke. Advertisement Part of why this prediction would be so bad for the Red Sox is how much control Abreu has. He's under team control through 2029 and is fairly cheap during that time frame as well. Losing a player like that makes no sense for Boston amid their desire to get younger and cheaper. At 25 years old, and about to turn 26, Abreu is young, cheap, and good. In 2025, before the injury, Abreu was hitting .245 with 13 home runs and 51 hits. His 1.7 WAR had him on track to beat his previous career high. But, with his injury, his season stats are a little more up in the air if they'll be better than 2024. If Rymer's prediction were to come true, and the team were to trade away Abreu, it would be another move to draw the ire of Red Sox fans. Abreu should be a part of the team's future, not a trade chip. Red Sox Expected to 'Shop Aggressively' at MLB Trade Deadline After Rafael Devers Trade
Red Sox Expected to 'Shop Aggressively' at MLB Trade Deadline After Rafael Devers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Once the Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, there was reasonable doubt if the Red Sox would be buyers at the deadline. They just sold their best offensive player, so shipping off more of their assets would be surprising. Advertisement However, according to a new report from Chris Cotillo of the Red Sox aren't expected to be done yet, and in fact, are expected to target players at the MLB trade deadline. "The Devers deal opens the door for a major trade deadline addition of a controllable," Cotillo writes. "High-dollar player and a high-ranking source indicated Sunday that the Red Sox, at 37-36 after a big weekend sweep of the Yankees, still wholeheartedly intend to buy at the trade deadline and shop aggressively." This report is an indication that the Red Sox are targeting certain players, or have a player they want to spend a lot of their assets on trying to acquire. While unlikely, Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates fits the bill that Cotillo describes. A high-cost player on the trade block doesn't happen often. But if one does make an appearance, the Red Sox are expected to be involved. Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow talks with the media at George M. Steinbrenner Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Whether this report comes to fruition or not, it's a necessary step for the Red Sox to make in their efforts to quell the irate fan base amid their frustration over the Devers trade. If the Devers trade led the team to getting a Skenes, or another high-profile player, then it would be significantly more palatable. Advertisement However, that kind of deal is hard to come by. And with there being very few players who fit the description, the Red Sox might not have the ability to add a player of that caliber. Not because they didn't try, but because none were available. But, at the very least, the decision to still be buyers, especially if they're still in contention, is an exciting proposition in the build-up to the MLB trade deadline. Boston and Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow will look to make a major move at the trade deadline. But with limited options and the potential to fall out of contention, the Red Sox might not be in a position to make such a move.
