Man hospitalized after single-vehicle crash in Montgomery County
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () — A vehicle crashed in Montgomery County early Saturday morning, leaving one man seriously injured and temporarily closing part of Norbeck Road, police said. Details remain limited; however, the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) wrote in that officers responded to a crash involving one vehicle just before 4:40 a.m. in the area of Norbeck Road, between Bel Pre and Westbury roads. Crews rescue man from Potomac River in Maryland Responders took the man to the hospital for treatment. Authorities closed Norbeck Road between Bel Pre and Westbury roads as responders worked to clear the scene. Check for updates. MCPD's Summer Traffic Task Force targets impaired drivers
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — On Saturday, May 31, there was a fatal collision at the intersection of Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road. Officials with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) say it was caused by a suspected drunk driver. Ten days before the deadly accident, police launched a Summer Traffic Task Force initiative to try to prevent tragedies like this from happening this summer. 'We're in graduation season,' Captain Warren Jensen, leader of MCPD's Traffic Operations Division, said, 'Memorial Day, Fourth of July, summer parties, post-prom, things like that; so we decided it was a good idea to go ahead and step up our enforcement.' PHOTOS: Black bear travels to Herndon after traversing Maryland Jensen said last year's alarming impaired driving fatal collision numbers led them to implement this traffic enforcement initiative. 'Fifty-five percent of all of our fatal collisions involved some sort of substance, and obviously, that's a completely unacceptable number,' he said. Jensen says this is the department's first time doing a traffic enforcement initiative in the summer. 'We've ended up with about 15 officers on average,' he said. 'Sometimes it's 20, depending on staffing.' That number includes officers from other agencies — including the Gaithersburg Police Department, Park Police, Maryland Transportation Authority, Rockville Police and Maryland State Police, Jensen said. MCPD says the two-car collision on May 31 at the intersection of Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road left an 88-year-old woman seriously injured. She later died. Police say the 18-year-old who ran into her is believed to have been impaired at the time. 'The case is still in its infancy,' Jensen said, 'so they're not ready to speak about exactly all the details yet. It's obviously a tragic situation, and alcohol is absolutely suspected.' Losing a loved one in a fatal collision is a pain Richard Leotta knows all too well. His son, Noah, was an MCPD officer who worked in the traffic division until 2015 when he was struck and killed by an impaired driver. 'Hopefully with the enhanced enforcement,' Leotta said, 'people will recognize to think twice and plan ahead, so they can get a safe and sober ride home.' Jensen says the Summer Traffic Task Force Enforcement initiative will go until the end of July. So far, they've made 33 DUI arrests and issued nearly 300 citations. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Five teens arrested in connection with stolen vehicles, crash in Montgomery County, police say
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Five teenagers ranging from 13-15 years old were arrested in connection to four stolen vehicles after officers responded to a crash on Tuesday. Around 7:30 p.m. on June 3, officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) responded to the intersection of Heathfield Drive and Parkland Drive for the report of a collision in which multiple teenagers were seen fleeing, police said. Officers arrived to find three empty vehicles at the scene — two Hyundais and a Kia. A fourth vehicle, another Kia, was spotted by officers speeding away with multiple passengers, MCPD said. All four vehicles were reportedly stolen. The teens arrested included a 13-year-old, three 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old. Upon their arrest, they were found to be in possession of items of evidentiary value, including knives and tools used to break into cars. Police investigating deadly crash in Gaithersburg
GAITHERSBURG, Md. () — The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) is investigating a deadly crash that happened in Gaithersburg. On May 31, officers with the Gaithersburg City Police Department responded to a two-car crash that occurred at 8:35 a.m. at the Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road intersection. One hurt after car crashes into shed in Montgomery County According to MCPD, a blue 2017 Toyota Corolla was stopped at a red traffic signal when a blue 2018 Jeep Compass crashed into it from behind. The Toyota driver and the passenger, Myrtle Gottlieb, 88, were both taken to the hospital in critical condition, where Gottlieb later died from her injuries on June 4. The Jeep driver, an 18-year-old man, stayed at the scene of the crash and was taken into custody for suspicion of drunk driving and driving without a license, MCPD said. Montgomery County police search for toddler's parents
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () — Police in Montgomery County are asking for the public's help in identifying a toddler's family members after he was found in Calverton on Wednesday morning. At around 10:25 a.m., the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) found a child in the 1200 block of Galway Drive.
