MBOR, BERNAMA TV Launch Series Honouring National Records
KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- Viewers can expect a powerful wave of inspiration as the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) collaborates with BERNAMA TV to premiere a brand-new 13-episode television series titled "Malaysia Book of Records 2025: Malaysia Luar Biasa." The series, set to air weekly on Tuesdays at 8.30 pm beginning August, promises to shine a light on record-breaking individuals and trailblazing organisations across the country, giving viewers a closer look at the remarkable achievements made by everyday Malaysians and prominent brands. According to MBOR's Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Wong, with the tagline "Malaysia Luar Biasa," each episode of the programme will highlight two to three record-breaking achievements, ranging from personal feats to national-scale accomplishments, demonstrating Malaysians' drive and discipline. "This series is about more than just celebrating records. It is a tribute to Malaysians' drive, talent, and resilience. Viewers can expect to be inspired by stories that demonstrate courage, creativity, and determination, reinforcing the message that greatness can emerge from any corner of the country," Christopher told reporters following the official launch here today. Also present at the launching ceremony were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and MBOR Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Michael Tio. Christopher explained that while MBOR has previously produced television content, this new series returns after a long hiatus and is being revived with a fresh approach. The initiative was conceptualised earlier this year with the goal of raising public awareness about MBOR and encouraging more Malaysians to strive for record-breaking performances. Christopher added that the series is expected to include 30 to 40 records across 13 episodes, with the production team carefully curating a mix of corporate accomplishments, community-driven efforts and individual triumphs that reflect Malaysia's diverse society. Notably, Christopher said the launch coincides with MBOR's 30th anniversary, having certified nearly 8,000 records since its inception in 1995.

Actress Fan Bingbing Enters Malaysia Book Of Records For Boosting Melaka's Digital Image
A year ago, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) was announced as Melaka's tourism ambassador, sparking mixed reactions. However, it seems the controversial appointment paid off for the Malaysian state. Earlier this week, Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh revealed that he had travelled to Hong Kong to meet with the Chinese actress to award the star a certificate from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR). Fan Bingbing was recognised for 'Largest Digital Hits for Malaysian Tourism on WeChat Platform Using Celebrity Ambassador' after Melaka recorded 1.5 billion digital impressions with the 'Malacca x Fan Bingbing' campaign. Ab Rauf Yusof said that Fan Bingbing's appointment as tourism ambassador also helped lead to a significant increase in tourists to Melaka, particularly from China. The Chief Minister shared that the state had 204,818 Chinese tourists by December 2023 but welcomed 664,687 Chinese tourists by December 2024. He also said that her ambassadorship had catapulted Melaka into the global tourism spotlight. Earlier this year, it was announced that Melaka will be the host for the World Tourism Day (WTD) 2025 and the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025 this 27th to 29th September 2025 (Saturday to Monday). While unconfirmed, Ab Rauf Yusof said that Fan Bingbing's appointment as the state's tourism ambassador had helped Melaka achieve this milestone. Fan Bingbing and her Malaysian manager, Jersey Chong, have expressed thanks towards the Melaka state government for the MBOR recognition. In an Instagram post, Jersey wrote, 'Gratitude to the Malacca state government for the unwavering trust, and to Bingbing for consistently promoting cultural exchange with sincerity and professionalism. We look forward to crafting more remarkable chapters together.'. While Fan Bingbing's appointment as Melaka's tourism ambassador received mixed reactions, we can't deny the impact that the actress has had. Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant sets three national records in MBOR
KUALA LUMPUR: The Package 3 of Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (LRA) made history after earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for three national achievements, showcasing the country's engineering innovation and commitment to environmental sustainability. The three records set were Malaysia's first pipe conveyor-type water treatment waste transport system, the longest pipe conveyor system for water treatment waste at 1.918 kilometres and the longest shaftless screw conveyor system at 46 metres. Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) chief executive officer Zulkiflee Omar described the three projects worth RM210 million as a transformative step for Malaysia's water sector. 'This was not just an ordinary infrastructure project, it represented significant engineering innovation focused on sustainable environmental governance,' he said at the handing over of the certificates of recognition from MBOR here today. The LRA Langat 2 is capable of treating up to 1,130 million litres of water per day (MLD) and generating up to 400 tonnes of treatment waste daily, depending on the quality of raw water channelled from Sungai Semantan in Pahang through a 45-kilometre tunnel across the Titiwangsa Range to Hulu Langat. According to Zulkiflee that conventional waste management had required up to 96 lorry trips daily, creating road safety hazards, significant carbon emissions and community disruption. However, the new pipe conveyor system automatically transferred waste almost two kilometres to a dedicated landfill site near the Bunting Balance Pond, completely removing heavy vehicles from public roads. 'This system not only saves fuel and reduces carbon emissions, but also supports the country's commitment to sustainable climate change,' he said. He noted that the system can transport 120 tonnes of waste hourly during its eight-hour daily operation, preventing more than 35,000 lorry trips annually, thereby enhancing safety, boosting operational efficiency, and strengthening environmental protection. Zulkiflee also extended his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the project's success, particularly recognising main contractor Salcon Engineering Berhad, financial consultants, government partners, and MBOR for the prestigious acknowledgement. 'This project proves that public facilities are also capable of producing innovative, responsible and world-class approaches,' he said.

202 male cats neutered in 24 hours: CSR effort in Melaka sets Malaysian record
MELAKA: A cat neutering initiative here has earned a place in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after successfully neutering 202 male cats within a 24-hour period. The corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme was made possible by Cat Supermarket in Paya Rumput here. Its managing director Datuk Chew Chert Fong, said the CSR initiative was aimed at controlling the stray cat population and ease the financial burden faced by animal shelters. "This is a crucial step towards reducing the number of stray cats we often see at eateries and along the streets. "The neutering service was given free of charge," he said after the MBOR recognition ceremony that was officiated by Melaka Legislative Assembly Speaker Kerk Chee Yee on Tuesday (May 20). Chew said the initiative also helps lessen the burden on cat rescuers and animal shelters in covering neutering costs, while making it easier for these cats to be adopted. Meanwhile, Dr Juliyana Abu Sari, who led the veterinary team, said the procedures were carried out in phases following health screenings that began two weeks prior. 'After the screenings, a total of 202 cats were successfully neutered within 24 hours by a team of five veterinarians and seven surgical assistants. "Of the cats involved, 60 were from three animal shelters, while the rest were rescued strays and owned pets," she said. Dr Juliyana noted that her team strongly supports neutering initiatives, especially in light of the growing stray population and the increasing number of animals housed in shelters, a trend that has worsened since the Covid-19 pandemic.
