HK Actor Simon Yam Spotted Smoking In Public While In Singapore For Lady Gaga's Concert
With Lady Gaga's concert tour in Singapore being the only Asian stop in her 'MAYHEM' tour, it's no surprise that many stars are also in the country to catch the show. One of those stars is veteran Hong Kong actor Simon Yam (任達華), whose appearance sparked slight controversy. Earlier this week, a XiaoHongShu user posted photos of her with Simon, revealing that she met the actor in Singapore. She wrote in the captions, 'How could someone bump into him twice in one day! And there was no one around him both times! He was really down to earth. He even played rock-paper-scissors and told us to study hard. He's still very handsome.' In a comment, the user added that the star was in town for the Lady Gaga concert. The post also included a photo of Simon smoking a cigarette beside a trash can by the roadside. Understandably, this image sparked debate amongst netizens, with many criticising him for smoking in public. However, others defended the star, saying he's alone at the moment. Some also criticised the XiaoHongShu user for posting the image, noting that it could damage the actor's image. Funnily enough, the XiaoHongShu post also sparked conversations about his outfit. The 70-year-old wore a white long-sleeved shirt with a denim vest. He also had on a pair of long trousers and a blue cap. Many lamented that the outfit seemed unsuitable for the hot weather in Singapore, even expressing concern that the actor might get a heat stroke because of all the layers. Simon wasn't the only foreign star who flew to Singapore for the concert. Hong Kong stars Gigi Leung (梁詠琪), Joey Yung (容祖兒) and Michelle Reis (李嘉欣) were some of the stars at the concert. Celebrity siblings Jennifer (余香凝) and Zoe Yu (余潔滢) also attended the show and played tourists in the city. Taiwanese stars Vivian Hsu (徐若瑄) and Elva Hsiao (萧亚轩) also enjoyed the concert, with Elva spotted sitting comfortably in the VIP lounge. Imagine going to a concert and seeing more stars than you anticipated! Lady Gaga will hold her last performance on Saturday (24th May 2025), so we might see more famous faces in the crowd then! Brazilian police arrest 2 in thwarted bomb plot at Lady Gaga Rio concert with 2 million fans
Police in Brazil said on Sunday that two people have been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to detonate a bomb at a free Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro. Saturday's event drew some 2 million fans to Copacabana Beach. Rio de Janeiro's state police said they had worked with the Justice Ministry to disrupt an attack allegedly planned by a group that was spreading hate speech against the LGBTQ community. Police said the group sought to radicalize and recruit teenagers to carry out attacks using Molotov cocktails and improvised explosives. "The plan was treated as a 'collective challenge' with the aim of gaining notoriety on social media," the police said. Authorities said they arrested two people in connection with the planned attack — the alleged leader of the group on illegal weapons possession charges in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, and a teenager on child pornography charges in Rio. The concert was the biggest show of Gaga's career. "Tonight, we're making history," Lady Gage told a screaming crowd. "Thank you for making history with me." The Mother Monster, as she is known, kicked off the show just after 10 p.m. local time with her 2011 song "Bloody Mary." Cries of joy rose from the tightly packed fans who sang and danced shoulder to shoulder on the vast stretch of sand. Concert organizers said 2.1 million people attended the show, which was funded by the city of Rio in an effort to revitalize the economy. In a recent report, Rio's City Hall said the show should bring in at least 600 million reais, or roughly $106 million. For Gaga, the performance was also an opportunity to promote her upcoming "Mayhem Ball" tour, featuring songs from her latest record MAYHEM. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in early March and includes new hits like "Abracadabra." Lady Gaga performs during her free concert in Rio de Janeiro, Saturday, May 3, 2025. Silvia Izquierdo / AP Lady Gaga also performed a number of older classics at her free show Saturday, including "Poker Face" and "Alejandro," switching between an array of dresses including one with the colors of the Brazilian flag. Some fans — many of them young — arrived on the beach at the crack of dawn to secure a good spot, armed with snacks and drinks. They spent the day under a blazing sun, while others perched in trees, determined to get a panoramic view. "Today is the best day of my life," said Manoela Dobes, a 27-year-old designer who was wearing a dress plastered with a photograph from when she met Lady Gaga in the United States in 2019. "It's surreal to be here." Madonna also turned Copacabana Beach into a massive dance floor last year. The large-scale performances are part of an effort led by City Hall to boost economic activity after Carnival and New Year's Eve festivities and the upcoming month-long Saint John's Day celebrations in June. "It brings activity to the city during what was previously considered the low season — filling hotels and increasing spending in bars, restaurants, and retail, generating jobs and income for the population," said Osmar Lima, the city's secretary of economic development, in a statement released by Rio City Hall's tourism department last month. People cheer as they watch Lady Gaga rehearse a day ahead of her free concert on Copacabana beach. Bruna Prado / AP Similar concerts are scheduled to take place every year in May at least until 2028. Lady Gaga arrived in Rio in the early hours of Tuesday. The city has been alive with Gaga-mania since, as it geared up to welcome the pop star for her first show in the country since 2012. Rio's metro employees danced to Lady Gaga's 2008 hit song "LoveGame" and gave instructions for Saturday in a video. A free exhibition celebrating her career sold out. While the vast majority of attendees were from Rio, the event also attracted Brazilians from across the country and international visitors. More than 500,000 tourists poured into the city in the days leading up to the show, more than double the initial forecast, according to data from the local bus station and Tom Jobim airport, Rio's City Hall said in a statement on Friday. Ingrid Serrano, a 30-year-old engineer, traveled from Colombia to Brazil to attend the show. "I've been a 100% fan of Lady Gaga my whole life," said Serrano, who was wearing a T-shirt featuring Lady Gaga's outlandish costumes over the years. For her, the mega-star represents "total freedom of expression — being who one wants without shame." Rio officials have a history of organizing huge concerts on Copacabana Beach. Madonna's show drew an estimated 1.6 million fans last year, while 4 million people flooded onto the beach for a 1994 New Year's Eve show by Rod Stewart in 1994. According to Guinness World Records, that was the biggest free rock concert in history. To ensure fans could hear the songs, sixteen sound towers were spread along the beach. Fans pack the shore of Copacabana beach to attend Lady Gaga's free show. Bruna Prado / AP Rio state's security plan included 3,300 members of the military, 1,500 police officers and 400 firefighters. Among those present were Lady Gaga admirers who remember their disappointment in 2017, when the artist canceled a performance scheduled in Rio at the last minute due to health issues. Ricardo Filho, who has been a fan since childhood, said it was worth the wait. "She's the best artist in the world," the 25-year-old said, as chants of "Gaga, I love you" in Portuguese rose from the crowd behind him.

Lady Gaga gave a free concert on Saturday night in front of 2 million fans who poured onto Copacabana Beach for the biggest show of her career. The 39-year old singer's concert was paid for by the city in an attempt to revitalise Rio's economy as it's estimated it could bring in £75M. 'Tonight, we're making history. 'I've been dying to come perform for you for years and was heartbroken when I had to cancel years ago because I was hospitalized. 'Your understanding that I needed that time to heal meant the world to me. Some fans - many of them young - arrived on the beach at the crack of dawn to secure a good spot, armed with snacks and drinks 'I am now coming back and I feel better than ever and am working so hard to make sure this show is one you will never forget.
