India's active Covid tally at 7,400, 9 deaths in 24 hours; big spike in Karnataka
India reported 269 new Covid-19 cases, taking the active tally to 7,400, while nine deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on recorded a single-day spike of 132 active cases, followed by Gujarat (79), Kerala (54) and Madhya Pradesh (20), data from the ministry states like Sikkim (11), Tamil Nadu (12) and Haryana (9) also reported a slight uptick in active Covid cases in the past 24 hours. In the past 24 hours, four deaths were reported in Maharashtra, followed by three in Kerala and one each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The total fatalities as of January 1, 2025, stood at many as 991 people recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 11,967 so remains the most affected state due to Covid, with the active tally so far at 2,109, followed by Gujarat (1,437) and Delhi (672). Other states having a high number of active Covid cases include Maharashtra (613), Karnataka (527), Uttar Pradesh (248), Tamil Nadu (232), Rajasthan (180) and Andhra Pradesh (102).On Friday, India reported 33 new active Covid cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 7,154.
