Kerala CPI(M) secretary M.V. Govindan accuses UDF of distorting his remarks on Emergency-era alliance
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has not made any political alliance with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at any point in history, CPI(M) Kerala State secretary M.V. Govindan has said. He accused the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and sections of the media of 'twisting' his recent comments to a television channel regarding the CPI(M) being a part of the Janata Party during the Emergency era, when Jana Sangh, the precursor to the Bharatiya Janata Party, was also a part of the umbrella alliance. Mr. Govindan was speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday (June 18, 2025), on the eve of the crucial Nilambur byelection. His comments had led to leaders of the UDF reiterating allegations of an understanding between the CPI(M) and the BJP, forcing LDF candidate M. Swaraj to explain the larger context of the umbrella alliance during the Emergency period. Mr. Govindan said that in the face of the 'semi-fascist rule of the Congress during the Emergency, during which democratic rights had ceased to exist, parties of various hues had come together to resist it.' 'Several parties, including the socialists and the Swatantra Party, were part of this larger alliance. The CPI(M) has never its history had a direct political alliance with the RSS or the BJP. Nor would it happen in the future. In the elections after the Emergency, EMS Namboodiripad had uncategorically stated that the CPI(M) did not want any any vote from the RSS,' said Mr. Govindan. Slams Congress He accused the Congress on the other hand of having electoral alliances with the BJP and Sangh Parivar organisations on multiple occasions. 'After the Liberation Struggle as well as later in Vadakara and Beypore, the Congress allied with the Sangh to defeat the LDF. But we were able to overcome these challenges and win the elections,' he said. He accused the Congress of 'whitewashing' Jamaat e-Islami, 'even though it has never rejected its original agenda of turning the nation into a theocracy.' 'For the first time, a democratic political organisation has allied with Jamaat e-Islami, which is acting as a counterpart to the RSS, which is implmenting a Hindutva agenda in the country. This act of the Congress and the Muslim League (IUML) with an eye on short term electoral gains will have long-term repercussions for our polity and the State. The LDF has taken a clear stance, rejecting both majority and minority communalism,' he said. Mr. Govindan also alleged that Raj Bhavan is bring turned into 'the nerve centre of communalism.' 'Photographs of RSS leaders Hedgewar and Golwalkar have now been placed at Raj Bhavan. We are wondering whether they would also place the photographs of Godse and Savarkar, as the RSS considers them to be more important than Gandhi,' he said. He also criticised the Kerala Governor's recent remarks against politicisation of higher educational institutions. 'Rather than rejecting all politics, we should be able to equip our students with the right kind of politics. How else would we get the next generation of leaders for the country?,' asked Mr. Govindan.

AP DSC 2025: Response sheets to be OUT soon today for 16,437 teacher vacancies; check details
AP DSC 2025: The response sheets for District Selection Committee examination (DSC) 2025 will be out soon today on June 18 by the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department, according to reports. The exam is being held to recruit 16, 437 teacher posts across the state. The response sheets will be released across different categories such as TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), PGT (Post Graduate Teacher), School Assistant Math, Special Education Posts, Non-Language Subjects. Candidates can view their response sheets online and flag objections if any by June 24 through the official AP DSC website. They are advised to check it carefully and send their objections within the given time period. In light of the State government's decision to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 in a grand and prestigious manner, the dates for the DSC exams originally planned for June 20 and 21 have been revised. This announcement was made by Mega DSC–2025 Convenor M.V. Krishna Reddy in a statement issued on Saturday, reports said. He explained that the rescheduling was done to prevent any inconvenience to candidates, as the Yoga Day celebrations could potentially cause travel disruptions. The exams for these candidates have been rescheduled to July 1 and 2. Updated hall tickets, showing the new exam dates and centres, will be available on the official AP MEGA DSC–2025 website ( starting June 25, 2025. The DSC exam for the post of School Assistants in Social Studies, conducted on Monday, recorded an overall attendance of 95.11% across Andhra Pradesh. In a statement released the same day, Mega DSC–2025 Convenor Reddy stated that out of 38,243 registered candidates, 36,372 appeared for the exam. The test was conducted at 227 centres statewide. Anantapur district reported the highest attendance in the morning session with 97.84%, while Chittoor district recorded the highest in the afternoon session at 97.98%.

DSC Mathematics keys accessible online from today
The keys and response sheets for the DSC Mathematics examinations will be available from Wednesday on the official website said DSC convener M.V. Krishna Reddy on Tuesday. Candidates can access them through their logins. Mr. Krishna Reddy informed that the keys and response sheets were available for TGT (Non-Language) and TGT (Special Education – Hearing Handicapped) Mathematics, held on June 6; PGT (Non-Language) Mathematics, held on June 8 and School Assistant (Non-Language) Mathematics, conducted on June 12, including Kannada, Odia, Tamil, and Urdu medium exams. Candidates can raise objections, if any, to the initial key only through the DSC website, supported by valid evidence, on or before June 24, 2025. Out of the total 35,540 candidates who had registered for the DSC exam held on Tuesday, 33,923 appeared for the exam, marking an attendance of 95.45%. The exams were conducted at 117 centers in the morning session and 90 centers in the afternoon session.

‘Smell of alcohol … doesn't mean… under influence of liquor': Court acquits man who had hit a pole
Six years after a man was held by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly driving under the influence of liquor and hitting a pole, the district court of Chandigarh acquitted him observing that 'merely because smell of alcohol was coming from the accused does not mean that he was under the influence of liquor'. Accused Akshay was booked under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act. As per the proseution, on June 9, 2019, at light point of Sector 22/23, Chandigarh, Akshay drove his vehicle bearing registration no. PB01A4282 in a drunken condition and hit the police. He was then apprehended and got medically examined and he was found under the influence of alcohol. Accordingly, a case was registered. The accused was arrested and his vehicle was taken into police possession. During trial in the court, a prosecution witness, Inspector (Retired) Rajinder Singh, testified that he along with Contstable Pardeep and Constable Vipin in an official vehicle bearing were patrolling. When they reached near Sector 22/23 light point, a car was coming from Sector-22 market driven in a rash and negligent manner. The car hit the dividing pole, Sector-22/23 light point. On confrontation, the said person told his name as Akshay and his breath was smelling of alcohol. Sector 22/23 Also, another prosecution witness, Dr Kriti Dayora, EMO, Civil Hospital, Sector 22, Chandigarh, stated that on June 9, 2019, the accused was brought in the emergency, Civil Hospital, Sector-22 for medical examination. She said Akshay had consumed alcohol but he was not under its toxic influence at the time of examination. Hearing the matter, Sachin Yadav, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), said that, '…an accused cannot be held liable under Section 185 of M.V. Act only on the basis of general opinion of the doctor. Breath Analyzer Test or blood test are mandatory before filing Kalandra against the accused u/s 185 of M.V. Act which has not been done in the present case. Merely because smell of alcohol was coming from the accused, does not mean that he was under the influence of liquor. The accused can not be convicted only on the basis of general opinion of doctor, which is not corroborated by any scientific test…' Holding that prosecution lacks evidence, the court acquitted the accused.

DSC exams slated for June 20 and 21 rescheduled due to Yoga Day celebrations
In view of the government plans to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 on a grand scale, it has been decided to reschedule the dates of the ongoing District Selection Committee (DSC)-2025 examinations, according to convener of the examinations M.V. Krishna Reddy. In a statement on Saturday, Mr. Krishna Reddy said the DSC examinations slated to be held on June 20 and 21 were rescheduled to July 1 and 2, 2025. He said the change was necessitated to ensure that the candidates appearing did not face any possible travel disruptions due to the State-wide celebrations. Mr. Krishna Reddy said the updated hall-tickets with new dates and centres would be made available on the AP Mega DSC-2025 official website ( from June 25, 2025. He said the candidates should take note of the changes, download the revised hall-tickets and attend the examinations as per the new schedule.
