Amruta Subhash, the daughter of notable Marathi actress Jyoti Subhash, is known for her roles in projects like Lust Stories 2, Sacred Games, and Gully Boy, among others. A graduate from National School of Drama, Amruta often takes part is several plays. Once, when she performed at NSD, actor Naseeruddin Shah, an alumni of the drama school was present in the audience to watch the play. Amruta was proud as her scenes garnered much praise and applause. When she performed for the second time, she noticed, this time too the veteran actor was sitting in the audience watching her performance. A proud Amruta believed she was up for great compliments from the actor. However, that was not the case. Speaking to Lallantop, Amruta shared, 'I was doing a play called Trishna. I had a scene where I had to cry, and people would applaud that scene. That sort of gave me this feeling that 'Wow, I am doing wonders.' I was too proud of myself. Ahankaar hogaya tha (I was full of pride). Naseeruddin sir came, he watched two of my shows. He noticed people clapping for me. I was under the impression that sir is going to praise me a lot. After the show, we were all standing at a tea stall outside NSD. I saw Naseer sir walking towards me but I pretended as though I didn't see him coming at all. He came to me, and he was like, 'Amruta', I was like, 'Yes sir', and he then said, 'I watched your play' and the proud me was like, 'Okay and?' and he then said, 'Beta, I am concerned.' I was shocked. I was like I received so much applause for my work, why is he so concerned?' He was very angry. He said in a higher tone, 'I would rather see you failing doing something new rather than doing the same thing again and again for claps, okay?' I was like, 'Okay sir, sorry'. He then gave me a lot of gyaan. He said you're forcing yourself on the character and not letting it explore anything new. You will be repetitive person. Your career will be over. That incident changed things in me. I understood where I went wrong.' Amruta and Naseeruddin shared screens in Nandita Das' directorial debut film Firaaq (2008). Naseeruddin Shah, originally a theatre artiste, is also the founder of theatre group Motley Productions. The production house stages plays in English, Hindi and Urdu around the world.

Actor Amruta Subhash on losing confidence for being rejected over skin colour
Actor Amruta Subhash recently recalled how she once faced colourism in school, which made her believe that she 'wasn't beautiful.' She recalled a dance teacher in her school rejected her from the dance group over not having 'light skin and light eyes.' Amruta admitted that during her initial struggle in her acting career, she used to believe that 'only fair women will become actors.'advertisementThe actor opened up about the colour bias she faced in her high-school days and even asked her mother to make her beautiful so that she could appear in a dance audition. The 'Lust Stories 2' actor, in an interview with Zoom, said, "We talk about women's empowerment, but many times, a woman only defames another woman. I always liked to dance. During my high school days, our dance teacher asked all the beautiful students to come tomorrow for a dance audition. I went to my mom and asked her to make me 'beautiful' to appear in a dance audition."While reflecting on how the dance teacher's remarks on her 'skin tone' made her insecure about herself, Amruta further said, "I asked her to see my dance. But she told me, 'You don't have light skin and light eyes. Hence, we can't take you in the dance group.' Amruta Subhash opens up on facing casting couch, says she lost many roles as she refused to sleep with producers: ‘I didn't compromise'
Amruta Subhash, who played Ranveer Singh's mother in Gully Boy and Seema in Lust Stories 2, encountered many sexual harassment incidents in both her personal and professional life. Sometimes costing her work and opportunities in the film industry. In a recent interview, Amruta recalled being inappropriately touched by an old producer as well as young boy she met during her train journey. In an interview with Zoom, she shared several incidents of going through harassment in different phases of her life. She recalled them one by one as she shared, 'I remember this incident with this big producer of this play I was doing. I was climbing stairs and maybe my top may have moved a bit, and I felt a hand around my waist. I suddenly jumped and I just looked at him and asked, 'What did you just do?' He had just brushed through it. Everybody was stunned because it was a big name. He said, 'Nothing, your top was…' I stopped him and said, 'it is none of your business. How dare you touch me here? You can't do it.' Everybody was like, 'Iska role gaya'.' During that journey, I was playing cards with this little boy. When we went to sleep, I noticed a hand around me, I quickly held on to it and when I saw it, I realised it was the same boy. He ran to the train's basin and started to wash his face when I confronted him. He started to cry. Because he was a kid, I didn't want to shame him.' She added, 'There was this another producer who would often ask me to join him for drinks and dinner. One day, I decided to go see him while everybody else was waiting to see what I would do. I opened his room and kept the door open and asked him, 'Sir, you are my father's age, why are you speaking to me like this? What is your problem?' I kept looking into his eyes. He started to behave awkwardly.' Amruta said she lost many roles because she refused to sleep with people in exchange for wok. 'I didn't compromise', said Amruta.
