Live at the Chicago Theatre: Francis Ford Coppola, ‘Megalopolis' and your questions
Want a better America? A very famous filmmaker would like your thoughts on that one. Hiding in plain sight, 'Megalopolis' is no longer streaming anywhere (it was available, briefly, as a digital download) and it's not on DVD. There's a reason. Its writer-director prefers that you experience his long-brewing, half-mad argument for democracy, aesthetics and a brighter future in a big way. Not a small, pauseable one. In July, one of modern cinema's towering figures will embark on a multi-city tour of 'An Evening with Francis Ford Coppola and 'Megalopolis' Screening.' The film presentation will be followed by Coppola's discussion, built around questions from the audience, on the topic 'How to Change Our Future.' The July 25 Chicago Theatre event follows engagements in Red Bank, New Jersey, and Port Chester, New York. After Chicago, Coppola and 'Megalopolis' move on to Denver, Dallas and San Francisco; Live Nation presents five of the six tour stops, with the Texas Theatre handling the Dallas engagement. 'This is the way 'Megalopolis' was meant to be seen, in a large venue, with a crowd and followed by intense interactive discussions about the future,' Coppola wrote in a statement for Live Nation. Coppola has wrestled with 'Megalopolis' for nearly 50 years. Covering much of the $120 million production costs himself, with money from his celebrated winery, the filmmaker's latest premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival to wildly mixed reactions. After several months of searching for a distributor (Lionsgate, ultimately), 'Megalopolis' grossed $14 million in theaters, making it one of modern cinema's most brazen rolls of the dice. The film stars Adam Driver as visionary architect and inventor Cesar Catilina. A few decades in the future, this idealistic savior vies for urban redevelopment and design control of the Manhattan-like city of New Rome with its weak, corrupt mayor (Giancarlo Esposito). Evoking a metropolis on the brink of total collapse, New Rome's scheming politicians and half-ruined architectural monuments also suggest ancient Rome, just before Nero started fiddling. Catilina wants something better for the people, a utopian rebuke to mediocrity. His motto is unmistakably Coppola's as well: 'When we leap into the unknown, we prove we are free.' Now 86, the director will forever be best known for his 'Godfather' trilogy, 'Apocalypse Now' and smaller-scaled masterworks such as 'The Conversation.' His latest film, he has said, may too pass the test of time, long after the memes and the financial reports have faded. As Coppola posted on Instagram earlier this year, noting that director Jacques Tati risked all he had (or nearly) on his wondrous 1967 utopian/dystopian dream 'Play Time,' now considered a classic: 'Box-office is only about money, and like war, stupidity and politics (it) has no true place in our future.'

Let there be rock: AC/DC tipped to play Perth on Power Up world tour in December
Ten years after they last shook Perth, Australian rock legends AC/DC are due to hit town for at least one stadium date later this year. The band's previous visit was in November 2015, when Angus Young and co. performed two massive gigs at Domain Stadium in Subiaco as part of their Rock or Bust world tour. It's understood that AC/DC will play at least one concert on their global trek on latest chart-topping album, 2020's Power Up, at Optus Stadium in December, with a second show dependent on ticket sales. The visit is expected to be confirmed next week. Starring guitar god Young and long-serving UK singer Brian Johnson, AC/DC has been on the road for more than a year. The rest of the current touring line-up features Stevie Young, who replaced his late uncle Malcolm on guitar in 2014, plus the American rhythm section of bassist Chris Chaney and drummer Matt Laug. The Power Up tour kicked off in Germany on May 17 2024 and saw the rock icons responsible for classics such as Back in Black, Thunderstruck and Let There Be Rock perform throughout Europe. AC/DC completed 12 North American dates in late May are poised to begin another run of European stadium shows, kicking off in Prague on June 26. The band's last scheduled concert is in Edinburgh on August 21. AC/DC sold more than 520,000 tickets on the 11-date Australasian leg of the Rock or Bust tour, while they flogged 750,000 seats during the record-breaking Black Ice visit in 2009. Melbourne-based Van Egmond Group, part of TEG Group since 2020, promoted both of those tours and is expected to bring the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Down Under again. Their 17th studio album, Power Up became AC/DC's sixth to top the ARIA Albums chart when it was released in 2020. AC/DC and the Bee Gees are the only groups inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and ARIA Hall of Fame. The Aussie rock gods are not the only big name tipped to play Optus Stadium, with a high profile pop act pencilled in for February. Fans of Beyonce will hope the US superstar hits Perth on her Cowboy Carter stadium tour, which began in Los Angeles in late April and is currently in France before another run of North American shows. Global touring giant Live Nation is promoting Beyonce's tour. TEG Group, Live Nation and Optus Stadium operators VenuesLive have been contacted for comment.

Bad Bunny's ‘I'm Not Taylor Swift' Comment Ahead of Tour Explained
Bad Bunny has clarified a major fan misconception ahead of his highly anticipated world tour. As speculation made its rounds that the Latin superstar would follow a Taylor Swift-style blueprint for his upcoming shows, the artist quickly shut it down. As Bad Bunny gears up for his massive all-stadium world tour, the global superstar has set the record straight about what fans can expect and what they shouldn't. In a recent interview, he made it clear that his upcoming tour won't follow the same retrospective format as Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour, despite fan speculation. Bad Bunny's Debí Tirar Más Fotos, starting from November 21 in the Dominican Republic, will primarily focus on his latest album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. While fans might hope for a career-spanning setlist, the Puerto Rican artist shut down comparisons to Swift's multi-album celebration. 'First of all, I'm not Taylor Swift,' he told Variety. 'I want to clarify now so that they don't get so excited: It's not going to be organized that way. It's still very much a tour for Debi, with some older songs sprinkled in.' The tour, produced by Live Nation, will take Bad Bunny across Latin America and Europe, including his first-ever performances in Japan, Australia, and Brazil. With 2.6 million tickets sold, the trek is already on the way to breaking records, reportedly making him the first Spanish-language artist to headline stadiums in seven countries on the itinerary. Despite the tour's massive scale, he remains grounded, joking about his initial disbelief at playing two nights in Sweden. 'I like to perform like nobody there knows who I am,' he said, emphasizing his passion for live shows. While acknowledging the challenges, he keeps perspective, 'My job is to fucking sing and even though it comes with its own set of sacrifices, it feels silly to complain about it.' For fans anticipating an Eras-style tour, Bad Bunny's message is clear that this is going to be about the present, not the past.
