Lower-League pair's Challenge Cup Semi-Final dreams are dashed as top-tier foes reign supreme
Judd Markham hit seven fours and two sixes in a 51-ball 58 but received little support from the rest of the Donacloney Mill batters as they were bowled out for 126. The Lisburn bowling quintet of Neil Whitworth, Adam Kennedy, Ryan Macbeth, Josh Manley and Matthew Humphreys all took two wickets apiece. Ross Adair (12) went cheaply, but that was to be the sole success for the visitors as, conscious of the showery weather, Humphreys was promoted up the order. The move paid off as the Irish international added 88 in eight overs with overseas professional Faiz Fazal. Fazal top-scored with an unbeaten 53, while Player of the Match Humphreys made 44 not out, both hitting six fours and three maximums as the nine-wicket win was sealed in just the 11th over. It was a similar story at Middle Road where, batting first, Carrick would have been pleased to have reached 101 for one against Waringstown, with Atish Varape (54) and Iain Parkhill (34) sharing a century stand. The wheels came off in spectacular fashion, though, as they lost nine wickets for just 44 runs to be all out for 145. Waringstown captain Greg Thompson (four for 24) was the destroyer-in-chief, while there were two wickets apiece for Adam Dennison and James Mitchell. The game was all but over in the powerplay of the chase as Sam Topping and Dennison took the home side attack apart in an opening stand of 128. Topping bludgeoned eight fours and five sixes in a whirlwind 72 from only 29 deliveries, while Dennison's undefeated 61 saw him hit eight fours and two sixes as the nine-wicket win was sealed in the 15th over. Cade Carmichael made it back-to-back hundreds as he and Nikolai Smith made sure Instonians made short work of what looked like a challenging target of 212 in 38 against North Down. Carmichael has enjoyed a prolific 2025 campaign with his form bringing him Irish international recognition, and he was soon into his stride at Shaw's Bridge, hitting 15 fours and three sixes in a rapid 87-ball unbeaten 124. His stand with Smith was 215 in just 29 overs, with the skipper no slouch himself in an even-time 85 not out (nine fours). Mickey Copeland (88) and Tyron Koen (66) both made half-centuries for the Comber side, but their bowling unit had no answer to the blitzkrieg of boundaries that the Inst openers unleashed. If the first three ties were one-sided affairs, then the fourth certainly made amends as Woodvale beat Cliftonville Academy in a last-ball thriller. Varun Chopra's unbeaten 104 and 56 from Hayden Melly took CA to 253 for eight, with three wickets for Ludwig Kaestner. A shower meant an adjusted target of 242 in 43 overs, and the chase always seemed to be lagging a little behind as the required rate climbed. Harry Warke (45) and Stephen Bunting (28) got starts, but when the visitors lost Ruhan Pretorius for just five, the odds were heavily stacked against the Ballygomartin Road side. However, Kaestner proved the man for the big occasion as he and Finn Restieaux (37 not out) set about chasing down the score. With eight needed from the last three balls, Restieaux slashed a boundary, followed by a single to leave Kaestner needing three from the final ball. His powerful cut raced to the boundary amidst great scenes. He finished unbeaten on 112 (nine fours, six sixes), making the Man of the Match award a formality. The Semi-Final draw will be made on Tuesday during the T20 inter-pro series at Stormont.

Waringstown cruise to victory over Lisburn to create three-way tie at top of Premier League table
It's a three-way tie at the top of the NCU Premier League after Waringstown inflicted a first defeat of the season on Lisburn. Fielding their first choice XI for the first time this season, the defending champions proved they are ready to repel any challengers and their 45 runs victory over the morning leaders was more comfortable than the final margin would suggest.

Orla Prendergast takes centre stage to help Dragons roar home over Scorchers
The Irish international hit 13 boundaries in her 116, sharing a third wicket stand of 119 with Amy Hunter after Ava Canning had struck twice in the opening over. Hunter hit eight fours in a stylish 62, while Arlene Kelly was also in the runs, making 41 as she and Prendergast added a further 107 for the fourth wicket. Cara Murray chipped in with an even-time 26 in a final total of 284 for seven. Gaby Lewis was clearly the leading threat to the Dragons' hopes, with the Ireland captain racing to 91 out of the first 120 scored before she fell to Bready all-rounder Alana Dalzell, who claimed four wickets in a fine display of swing bowling. Sophie MacMahon hit a valiant 42, but the result was never in doubt. Meanwhile, in the NCU Women's Premiership, Holywood beat Waringstown in the top-of-the-table clash. The Lawn side were in early trouble with star players Amy Caulfield and Charlotte Lyons both back in the pavilion, but they were steadied by a third wicket partnership of 78 between Naomi Matthews, who made an unbeaten 40, and Samantha Bond (28). Tamsin Hope took three wickets, and a final total of 103 for five looked below par. That indeed proved to be the case as Lara Maritz hit six fours in a top score of 46, sharing an opening stand of 65 with Eva Cupitt (20), while Madison Landsman (22 not out) was also in the runs in an eight-wicket win. CSNI are in third place after a 50-run (DLS) win over Lisburn. Skipper Jemma Gillan was once again in the runs, hitting six boundaries in her 43-ball 55. She and Sarah Rountree (28) put on 83 for the second wicket that saw the Stormont side post 148 for three. Lisburn's reply never really got going despite 24 for Amelia Hughes. They were struggling on 47 for six in the 13th over when rain brought a premature end to proceedings. CSNI's bowling unit did well with two wickets apiece for Vanessa Minford, Eva Wilson and Emily Carville. The bowlers were also on top at North Down where Evey Keenan claimed five wickets for just eight runs as Muckamore were bowled out for 60. Kiara Fisher (31) and Gracie Keenan (26) shared an unbroken second wicket stand of 62 to seal a comprehensive nine-wicket win.

Donemana finish on right side of last-over drama to progress to Quarter-Finals in Irish Senior Cup
Needing five off the last over, Jotin cleared the ropes to finish unbeaten on 77 as they chased 223. He shared a fourth wicket stand of 71 with Irish international Andy McBrine (35), and when David O'Sullivan hit three sixes in a quickfire 27, it looked as if they would win comfortably. Merrion captain Max Sorensen had other ideas, and his five-wicket haul set up a tense finale that Donemana edged. Earlier, Merrion's Australian professional Connor Blaxall-Hill top-scored with 109, adding 143 for the third wicket with John Anderson (64), but their middle and late-order has been their Achilles' heel and they failed to fire in the latter stages – all out for 222. That was to prove their downfall. Lisburn and CIYMS made it three NI-based sides in the Quarter-Finals after they beat CSNI and Railway Union respectively. Lisburn were in early trouble in the all-NCU clash, with Sean Davey's opening spell having them in trouble at 61 for four. Not for the first time in the 2025 season, Neil Whitworth and Nigel Jones got them out of a sticky situation in a fifth wicket stand worth 65. Jones top-scored with 43, while Whitworth made 34 in a total of 180. It may not have looked too many, but an hour into the CSNI reply and they had stumbled to 55 for nine. Josh Manley claimed a five-wicket haul, and there were two apiece for Ryan MacBeth and Adam Kennedy. Paddy Beverland hit three sixes in a defiant 43 but it was all in vain as Lisburn won by 77 runs. CIYMS produced a fine all-round display to oust Railway Union. Herman Rolfes hit eight fours and two sixes in a fine unbeaten 98 that propelled the Belmont side to 252 for six in 41 overs. There were runs, too, for Chris Dougherty (53), Jack Beattie (30) and Carson McCullough (28). The Dublin side looked threatening as opener Hedayat Khogiana thumped 11 fours and four sixes in a 79-ball century, adding 116 for the second wicket with Irish youth international Robert O'Brien. It was very much in the balance at 161 for one in the 27th over, but teenage spinner Alex Armstrong broke the stand and went on to claim a five-wicket haul that included Ireland World Cup hero Kevin O'Brien in a 49-run win. Instonians bowed out at Pembroke despite the hosts missing no fewer than six Irish internationals. It was a seventh Andrew Balbirnie – surplus to requirements in T20Is – that was to be the match-winner. He survived an early lbw call to go on to make 118 (six fours, five sixes), sharing an opening stand of 102 with JJ Garth (40) as the hosts made 261 for seven. The Shaw's Bridge reply was poor as they slumped to 115 for nine, given some respectability by a last wicket partnership of 50 between James Lambert (31 not out) and James Magee (20). Coleraine must have thought they were in with a real chance against five-time winners North County after scoring 237 for three in 44 overs. Louren Steenkamp made an even-time unbeaten 134 that included nine fours and six sixes, adding 177 in 30 overs with former Irish international David Cooke. Brian Dunphy (86) and Jamie Grassi (79 not out) shared a match-winning fourth wicket stand of 156 to deny the Bannsiders. Carrickfergus won a last-ball thriller at home to Fox Lodge to be the only NCU representative in the last-eight of the National Cup, while Isaac Bird scored 121 as Ballyspallen beat tournament favourites The Hills and Glendermott won a low-scoring game at St Johnston. Meanwhile, Harry Brook's golden touch as England's white-ball captain continued as his side chased down 197 to clinch the T20 series with a four-wicket win over the West Indies in Bristol. Brook has now won all five games since taking over from Jos Buttler and has the chance to match the 3-0 ODI whitewash in Southampton on Tuesday.

Co Down community hub gains deputy First Minister support amid village traffic concerns
A new Co Down community hub has been approved and received support from the deputy First Minister. The application by Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council (LCCC) was unanimously approved by its planning committee this week following an approval for a SuperValu development. The Moira centre will be located at the Demesne Grove between a playpark and sports pitches, though some traffic concerns have been raised. Lagan Valley MLA Emma Little-Pengelly posted on Facebook: "Great to see the community hub proposals moving forward with the planning committee unanimously agreeing the plans on Monday (June 2). A huge amount of hard work by the community group and volunteers to get it to this stage." A council officer said: "The community hub will be occupied by a charity. The site is accessed via the main entrance to Moira Demesne off Main Street, Moira. "The parking requirements are met from the use of existing car parks within the Demesne." Killultagh DUP Alderman, James Tinsley said: "This is a great addition to what is already at the playpark for the community and local school children, it is a fantastic application." An earlier application at the committee was also approved for a major upgrade of a retail park on Main Street. Concerns had been raised over long traffic jams of up to 2miles into Moira with extra car journeys of 50% at peak times due to the new SuperValu development. Lisburn North SDLP rep, Pat Catney was the only planning member not to support the application. The chamber was told that an overall increase or 'cumulative' traffic assessment in Moira had not been carried out as the additional traffic was viewed in the report as 'modest with a small impact'. This led to Cllr Catney, cautiously agreeing to the Moira hub, saying: "I just hope people can get through the village traffic to get to the hub."
